TOYOTA SIENNA IS THE BEST ! I bought a new 2010 Honda Odyssey, and a new 2010 Toyota Sienna, for my USPS Mail routes .. 370 miles a day each .. Both vans were serviced by the dealerships I bought them from .. Both vans were serviced at the required mileage, including the transmissions .. The Honda Odyssey engine went out at 267,516 miles .. The Toyota Sienna has 359,987 miles, and still going strong ! I have bought 3 other Toyota Sienna vans for my other routes .. I'm a Toyota buyer for life !!
I drove the 2019 and I must say it's impressive how much more power it has along with features. I have a 2012 elite but drove the ex model, but I must say that for 10k less it is packed full of technology and would go for the Ex this time around instead of the touring. In my opinion the extra 10k is not worth of what you get in return.
Phrancis5 What does that say about Europeans though? They don’t even have them in Europe...well except the Metris, but Doug DeMuro pretty much handled that rebuttal. So Americans clearly buy enough of them to have it as a competitive market.
Minivans are just cool. Not sure why the public enjoys crossovers so much, because the practicality and versatility of a minivan is unmatched (not to mention can look pretty neat like this Odyssey).
Switch from Honda Odyssey and Honda accord to Toyota Sienna and Toyota Camry because of the transmission problem. Honda. accord transmission replaced at 34,000 miles, good still under warranty. Honda Odyssey , complaining about the wheezing sound on the transmission and had been recall 2 times. Didn’t solve the problem, dealer said its natural,😡😡Sound system in both Odyssey and Accord sounds terrible. Still trying to evaluate the Sienna and Camry, got only 5000m each.
It's too bad Honda didn't put the SH-AWD on the Odyssey, whether it is a drive shaft version (might take up too much interior center hump space), or an all-electric system similar to the MDX/RLX/NSX. An Acura-flagged model would've been nice too, but I guess they fear it would cannibalize sales of their SUVs.
oldtwins Acura is having some trouble in the creativity department. They market sport luxury vehicles, but in reality, the interiors are lacking and any zest in styling is offput by something, usually the grille.
I don't get the love affair with all wheel drive. It's a van, not an offroad monster. It's got snow mode and if you're living in a place with snowy winters, you should be swapping snow tires anyway.
We test drove the Odyssey Elite and 2017 Acura MDX. During the test, I did not have any connection with the Odyssey. When we pull in to a gas station, the front bumper hit the concrete bar of the parking space because it was too low. We got the MDX a day later. I don't think this van will do well in snow due to its ground clearance.
I currently have the previous generation Odyssey (2017), and I immediately noticed that they corrected one of the things I do not like about mine. The middle row seats have armrests on both sides. Once you take out the middle seat/section on mine, the bucket seats are left without armrest on the inside, which I do not like. The other things I do not like about mine are wind noise, which is surprisingly high, and the ride quality, which isn't as plush as I would like.
It has snow mode. Which works apparently very well with winter tires. I have an mdx and a '12 odessey, the only difference I find in winter driving between the 2 is when from a stopped position the odessey spins the tires. The snow mode slows the acceleration so that won't happen. Quite effective in the winter.
Chrysler and Gold in the same sentence? Never seen that before. It’s been a year since your comment. Do you still feel the same way? Everything Chrysler seems fall apart over time.
I loved my 2014 odyssey. But I love my new 2017 Pacifica even more. The new 2018 odyssey is excellent, however it’s missing several key features that’s available on the Pacifica I use everyday and now I can’t live wo, such as 360 camera, front and back parking sensors, remote start via my phone app, heated steering wheel, hands free sliding door and exterior buttons for the kids to easily open and close the sliding door. If Honda could add these useful feature, it would be perfect. In the meantime I’m sticking w the Pacifica.
Yep. It does not have a 360° camera but it does have: front and back parking sensors, remote start via a phone app, heated steering wheel, hands free sliding door. It also doesn't have an exterior button for the door for the kids. It has a handle that when you pull it, the door electronically opens (similar; but different mechanism than a button.) You should definitely look at the suite of features. It is generally ranked #1 in Minivans.
Unknown Entity yes and no. I did love our 2014 odyssey. The interior storage was so much better than my Pacifica. But the odyssey wasn’t entirely trouble free. I love my new Pacifica and I also think the new odyssey is terrific. But I’m not sure I can live without the 360 camera, hands free sliding door and the exterior button to open the sliding doors. I use these features several times a day and they’re extremely convenient. I recently test drove the Pacifica hybrid and I loved it. They updated the 2018 slightly with a bunch of minor improvements over my 2017. The power train was awesome. When my current Pacifica lease is up the hybrid will be my replacement - that’s if the ev tax rebate is still available.
I still wonder why more minivans aren't available as hybrids yet. As highly practical vehicles, it seems like an obvious option. Granted, I realize a hybrid powertrain is quite a bit more complicated to offer than a moon roof, but it's 2018.
Doesn't save that much gas with my new awd Chrysler hybrid. My 2006 8-seater Sienna is still solid at 190k for long 8hr or 800mile long road trips still. My 2007 odyssey at 180k has been the worse with so many repairs. Will get another sienna. This time awd too.
0:11. "But if you need lots of space...you can always get a large crossover." I disagree. Even a large crossover doesn't provide the space that a minivan provides, especially in the third row.
It's precisely why we traded ours in for an Ody. Not to mention, with more than 2 kids, even a three row SUV is less than practical and you get darn near zero cargo space with the third row in use.
I'll see your stow and go, and raise you one "Magic Slide"! I bought my van to move people, not sheet goods. For letting older kids in and out of the back, the ability to slide the outboard seat to the center is wholly indispensable. Perfect for letting the older kids climb in and self buckle while I tend to getting the little ones buckled up in the second row. If I'm planning on moving something large, I rent an inexpensive trailer, do the job, and return it. Done.
Yep! I just realized that the magic slide offers more use and more value daily with the family activity than the stow and go. Great innovation there Honda!
If Honda designed Odyssey higher: wheels, platform, seats like Toyota Sienna, Honda will sell Odyssey(s) like hot cakes. Try it and change it in 2020 model year, etc. See how it will go. Love to see it higher look.
Anna Do There are those consumers who prefer a lower vehicle for ease of entry and exit. Lower center of gravity is also prefered for stability at highway speeds
I enjoyed your review. At 5:44 - 6:00 you mentioned that the adaptive cruise control is not really good for the daily commute and that it disables under 20 mph. I have a 2017 CR-V and it operates all the way to a stop and will even resume again on its own if the car in front of you begins moving within a few seconds. If traffic comes to a complete stop for more than a few seconds then it will begin again if you tap the resume button. I’m just wondering if this Odyssey operates differently.
My complaint about using ACC in our new CRV is that it leaves too much of a gap even with the shortest setting - and you will inevitably be cut off. Within just a few miles of stop n go traffic, you'll end up with 10+ more cars in front of you.
You get much better MPG and much better tire life with front wheel drive, just ask any Sienna all wheel drive owners. I never got stuck in an Odyssey and simply have a shovel in the back when it snows hard. This 2018 model is much better equipped than the outgoing model, complete with much better sound proofing and handling. It's worth the money. I'd get one used in 3 years.
@@Sergei__v Thanks Sergei. People keep complaining about a lack of AWD and it confuses me. I agree with you, these folks should be using snow tires. It has a snow mode and folks should be prepared for winter weather with salt/sand and a small shovel.

Sure, because 16 hp and 1 lb-ft of torque makes such a huge difference in vehicles weighing just shy of 5000 lbs. By the way, Car and Driver tested the 2018 version of the Odyssey and Sienna, and got a 0-60 time of 6.6 seconds in the Honda, 6.8 in the Sienna.

Where do you plan on offroading a van!? Lol. It's got 4.1" ground clearance. If winter is your concern, it has snow mode and you should be using snow tires anyway.
When looking for a vehicle for a family, it’s important to put practicality and safety over looks and speed. A small, speedy car is not a practical or safe car for most families. A small vehicle can’t hold as many things or people. In a sports car you’re more likely to speed, just because you can, which puts you, the people in the car, and other people in danger. If you don’t care about the safety and practicality of your car when buying it for your family, you will look like an asshole to countless people, most likely even the people in your car.
This fun to drive bullshit is getting old. The thing is not fun to drive cut the bullshit and no one buy a minivan because they want something fun to drive so being fun to drive it's not a factor. I have driven this thing it's a boat and that exactly how a minivan should drive. Jesus had enough with these reviewers and "fun to drive" be the end all of decisions making
Sit in the folding chairs of the Chrysler for a 4+ hour trip and you'll find out why Honda still uses the real chairs. The 3rd row is more comfortable too. I've had 3 mini vans and a real captain style 2nd row is preferred by all that actually have a voice to tell you. If your toddler is in a safety seat, then by all means, use the folding chairs.

I thought Honda van engines and transmissions were no bueno. I don't care how much more comfortable it is if it costs me a fortune to repair.
Still not AWD!??? :(.....
Where do you plan on offroading a van!? Lol. It's got 4.1" ground clearance. If winter is your concern, it has snow mode and you should be using snow tires anyway.
No luggage carrier on the eltie trim?
You mean like a roof cargo box? You can add one as an accessory during the sale. Edit: Awesome user name btw! 😃
Looks like the old Station Wagons
Sorry that ZF 9 speed is a turnoff. The Honda 10 speed is too new to trust
I like passing the greenwood van😂😂😂
When looking for a vehicle for a family, it’s important to put practicality and safety over looks and speed. A small, speedy car is not a practical or safe car for most families. A small vehicle can’t hold as many things or people. In a sports car you’re more likely to speed, just because you can, which puts you, the people in the car, and other people in danger. If you don’t care about the safety and practicality of your car when buying it for your family, you will look like an asshole to countless people, most likely even the people in your car.
Is AWD not necessary on a van?
no. Only Sienna
Not touching gas not touching throttle 😂😂😂
I prefer Kia Carnival 2.2 diesel...
USA don't have any minivans with diesel engines
we do need ,can't afford. one military family in need
The Ody LX can be had for around $30k. Used Odys can be had for less and usually last a couple hundred thousand miles.
The Pacifica is a better minivan.
Heyu Yoma actually the Toyota having AWD it will grip the road better then the Honda. Sorry.
oopsisuckeditagain I'm not sure why that's ironic. My 2JZGE Toyota Altezza and Toyota MR2 turbo both handle great. So yeah try again.
Toyota4Life So you're pissed off because the Odyssey is better than the Sienna?
Then why the hell would you click on the video!? What are you smoking to say this comment weed?
Wow.
Too many colors don't match
Why Honda still uses primitive timing belts in their engines.
Weren't you saying the same thing on a different Odyssey review video? 😝
Brandon West
I just hate timing belts. A $45,000 car should have at least a more durable chain instead of a belt.
@@TheGomezIndustries You wouldn't hear a complaint out of me if timing belts went the way of the dinosaur.

Chyrsler transmission - no thx.
Vit Tret Honda and Chrysler out source this trans from a top transmission company that also put their products in top luxury car in the world.
this can't keep up with Pacifica
I think Crysler Pacifica hybrid is better
Uyo
Menhukio.koipu
Hey fool it’s a 3.5 v6 not a 3.6 that’s the Chrysler van that uses a 3.6 pentastar v6
