Thank you for the very informative video. One thing that I'd like to point out is that the firing pin spacing tool is also designed to aid in the attachment and detachment of the bayonet. You may not have been aware of this because your bayonet doesn't fit your barrel. There are a few other videos that I've found on here that demonstrate the process. Thanks again.
@Thatevilmidget The earliest M91 rifles (I think both the French and Russians made it in this configuration) had an actual sling swivel dangling from the front of the magazine and underneath one of the barrel bands. Then they were deleted and the "Soviet" style sling holes in the stock were created and all previous rifles were updated, making rifles with the sling swivel rifles rare to the point of non-existence. That's what my collector's book, Bolt Action Rifles of the World, says.
Great video series! In my experience Mosin Carbine's recoil less than M91/30's due to the large amount of unburnt powder that comes out the end of the barrel (causing less pressure). The "reproduction" stripper clips are Chinese, they are exact copies of the Finnish one's, if your having problems with them just bend the lips with pliers till they work better. Silver tip denotes that the bullet is steel core, for ammo I.D. check out 7.62x54r net. Keep up the good work!
when using the cleaningkit: first you pyt the metalbushing with the small holes up over the rod, then put the little pin trough. then you put on the mussle protector and then the patch holder. you push the whole arangement carefully in to the mussle, then push the mussle protector dovn the rod and on to the mussle. so when you push the cleaning patch trough the barrel the mussle protector protects the mussle by centering the cleaning rod in the bore to protect the crown and musssle against scratches.
i just bought my first mosin nagant for 150$ and holy mother of god this gun is worth every penny of it, if you do not own one go to your nearest gun store and buy one they are amazing
@Thatevilmidget That makes sense. And you should do a video on your SVT. I've only seen one for sale in state (CT is a small state lol) and it was going for $1,200.
I just want to point out that that stripper clips are very tight in the ammo pouch because one of the stripper clips is supposed to be flipped the opposite way. If you put one facing up, then one facing down, then the final one facing up again, there should be no problem fitting the clips in the ammo pouch
THX, i was obsessed with looking up that IL-2 plan in a book i have and on wiki, i read the part in the book like everyday for like 5 days and the section only covers like 1/4 of a standard paper lol ocd much
haha. i understand, the IL-2 Sturmovik computer games (about the Russian side of WWII) were where i saw it. it's a really cool plane. like the A-10 Warthog of that era.
Aside from the efficient polish stripperclips, is it really worth using them? I hate the idea of having to pull out the stripper clip & toss it, where as the Kar98k, it can be shoved out with a push of the bolt. Do you get what I'm saying?
@diablo17858 I got the Bulgarian stuff from Silver City Sporting Arms in West Haven. I haven't been there in some time though so I don't know what their current situation is.
the k98 or at least mine ejects its stripper clips ,but on the other hand the stripper clips work fine in my mosin nagant it is annoying to have to remove it manually. oh in the video silver tip means steal core.
i wondered why my bayonet wouldn't say on -.-" gotta twist, is the screw driver end from Finland, or rare? i didn't get that straight from the text box
I'm thinking of buying either a mosin 91/30 or type 38 as my first gun. how often would I need to clean the barrel and the bolt. also which of the two would you recommend me to get first?
´bout the bayonet: they where issued in matching pairs, i have my nagant with the matching bayonet and it fits just like a glove, it slides on and of real nice and yet is attatched firmly...
@cwbyfan223 Thanks for the wealth of info! One of the owners of a gunshop that I frequent tells me that the M44 with heavy ball is one of the hardest kicking mil-surp rifles he's ever owned. I'll definitely check out the website you posted. Thanks again!
Hello. I like very much your way of presenting your weapons and I regret not mastering better the English language (I am French):-). Nevertheless I manage to follow your videos. I possess Mosin and a Lee Enfield N°1 MK3, I adore these weapons and I am happy of the tribute which you return to these objects steeped in history. Very beautiful collection which you have there and thank you for sharing her(it). Cordially.
@Thatevilmidget Wow, you clearly know your Mosin Nagants very well. I'm gonna use all the info you gave me and when I get out of summer school and make part 3, I'll talk about everything you just covered when I talk about history. I'll add in rare bayonet info into this video by annotation. Thanks for sharing your wealth of info, I strive for accuracy and detail.
They shoot better with the bayonet fixed. I own 12 of the damn things and I refitted all the bayonets so they would fit any and all of my Mosin's. As long as the prices remain where they are I plan on buying as many 91/30's as I can afford.
If by dirty you mean corrosive...then yes most are...however they are not an issue for those of us that flush the chamber and bore with some type of cleaner such as gun scrubber...bottom line is clean your weapon after shooting and you'll be GTG
It seems to be a subtle motion, but sometimes the clip will fly out as soon as I slam home the last round. No idea why though. I dont like stripper clips because my Nagants interrupter is shoddy.
@something01992 I have been very careful about all my spending as well I am building an ar15 and buying a mauser 98k so its been at least 6 months since I bought ammo
wow u guys can get amo cheap im in canada and ive looked on the net for stores near me and a 20 round pack costs 21 bucks, it's either that or 400 rounds and i just started my arms collection so i don't really have the storage
I got one from marstar. They didn't give me a sling or strippers. :( My bayonet is the same. I thought it went on and went to the side so you can still use the sight. Mine wont do that. Not that I need the bayonet anyways but still.
I just wanted to say very good video. people say I am pretty savvy on surplus firearms I do own a few. I just wanted recommend the Czechoslovakian 7.62x54r ammo I believe its some of the best and most accurate 7.62x54r next to the Yugoslavian brass stuff but once again good video keep it up.
Also the Russian soldier mabye at the beginning of ww2 would have 2 units full of ammo but at one point the war got so bad they gave one gun to every two soldiers and the one without the gun would get just 5 rounds and a trench shovel and would fallow the guy with the gun till he got shot then he would pick up the gun and continue on

Mosin Nagant owner here. Great gun. I love it! I learned some things from this video as well. Thank you.

This video was very helpfull! I had no idea what to do with those tools. Thanks
the silver tip designates steel core ammo and the head stamping is the top is the factory number and the bottom is the year of manufacture

Silver tip is Light ball LPS lol
All the Mosin bayonets I have seen are screwdriver tips.

was the ammo Milsurp or new manufacture? new manufacture ammo is gonna be REALLY expensive, even here in the U.S.
haha. i understand, the IL-2 Sturmovik computer games (about the Russian side of WWII) were where i saw it. it's a really cool plane. like the A-10 Warthog of that era.
A friend of mine has two mosin nagants with the swing out bayonet. They are every cool.
Aside from the efficient polish stripperclips, is it really worth using them? I hate the idea of having to pull out the stripper clip & toss it, where as the Kar98k, it can be shoved out with a push of the bolt. Do you get what I'm saying?
lightball must be used in the psl because heavy ball can damage the reciever over time. You can use both in any mosin with no worries
I love the intro to this video,GREAT WORK
They sound alright by your description, hope they work out.
@diablo17858 I got the Bulgarian stuff from Silver City Sporting Arms in West Haven. I haven't been there in some time though so I don't know what their current situation is.
i think that brass cased stuff is czech not bulgarian but if i saw the head stamp i could tell
the k98 or at least mine ejects its stripper clips ,but on the other hand the stripper clips work fine in my mosin nagant it is annoying to have to remove it manually. oh in the video silver tip means steal core.
the silver tip indicates light ball the silver paint on the tip disappeared in 1984.
i wondered why my bayonet wouldn't say on -.-" gotta twist, is the screw driver end from Finland, or rare? i didn't get that straight from the text box

I like loading my rounds one at a time rather than rush it with a stripper clip... Less time to enjoy your fun on the range.
i still get the 20 packs at a midwest gun and range for 5 dollars a pack

I guess you could always ream the inside of one out until it fits.
It seems to be a subtle motion, but sometimes the clip will fly out as soon as I slam home the last round. No idea why though. I dont like stripper clips because my Nagants interrupter is shoddy.
@something01992 I have been very careful about all my spending as well I am building an ar15 and buying a mauser 98k so its been at least 6 months since I bought ammo
i get my ammo for 4.99 a box, if bought in bulk its 3.19 per box
Those prices you paid for your ammo are absurd. You can buy a spam can of 440 rounds of Russian silver-tip for $80 shipped online.
wow u guys can get amo cheap im in canada and ive looked on the net for stores near me and a 20 round pack costs 21 bucks, it's either that or 400 rounds and i just started my arms collection so i don't really have the storage
now there making repro's of the good stripper clips, look on amazon, do you think those would be better?
I got one from marstar. They didn't give me a sling or strippers. :( My bayonet is the same. I thought it went on and went to the side so you can still use the sight. Mine wont do that. Not that I need the bayonet anyways but still.
the bayonet is illegal here in Belgium and bullets cost 80 eurocents for 1 bullet. No ideao how much that is in Dollars but you get the point LOL
It's $1.11. That a little expensive if you ask me.
in the state of Oregon, United States. 1 bullet = $0.11 for surplus but 1 hunting bullet = $0.80 cents
+ Niels Segers" You can shoot people with this, but we don't want someone to get stabbed by it" What kind of logic is that lol.
the screwdriver end is normal. the Finn version was the one with the point. btw that's a badass username.
Same & my bolt handle could use a little bit of shiner.
all russian equipment is generally crude in design but rugged under battle conditions. the Kar98k has more finesse to its firing and design
you can still get the surplus real cheap I got mine for like 4 bucks a pack
I just wanted to say very good video. people say I am pretty savvy on surplus firearms I do own a few. I just wanted recommend the Czechoslovakian 7.62x54r ammo I believe its some of the best and most accurate 7.62x54r next to the Yugoslavian brass stuff but once again good video keep it up.
@MrPugero69 If only I had the cash I would. Unfortunately, all my paychecks are going towards a Lee Enfield No.1 Mk. III acquisition.
where can i get the ammo for that price?? i need cheap...
Also the Russian soldier mabye at the beginning of ww2 would have 2 units full of ammo but at one point the war got so bad they gave one gun to every two soldiers and the one without the gun would get just 5 rounds and a trench shovel and would fallow the guy with the gun till he got shot then he would pick up the gun and continue on
those steel case ones in my gun cause sticky bolts
Is all bulgarian surplus ammo brass?
k98. but the finnish m27, m28 and m39 mosins are as good as the k98.
yes that wat i been doing but no work ty tough
Does anyone know where I can find surplus Mosin Nagant stripper clips
justin french plenty on eBay dude
Thats a 50cal ammo can
Like he said, they're not matched.
@cwbyfan223 Oh and I forgot to mention different types of ammo work better in different rifles, you just have to find one your rifle likes.
Hm weird, I have 15 reproduction clips and so does my friend, all of them load just fine.
Katyusha, my favorite :D
7.62x54R, why didn't you just watch the video again? lol
with hthe repoes stick your thumb back as faras posible
fuck i bought 10 of those silver clips
@something01992 go to jgsales.com $85 for 440 rounds and its light ball russian surplus and the store is located in Arizona
well, wheres the reply, yo!
Sorry, I can't say. I have no experience with them.
