Comparison of Lidar Scan Frequencies for Pose Estimation in On-Orbit Servicing

- On-Orbit Satellite Servicing will be an important part of the future of international space activities. Spacecraft will be equipped with Lidar sensors to enable automatic rendezvous & docking with the target satellite.
Digital twins allow for the identification of optimal system parameters (e.g. Lidar scan frequencies that lead to the most accurate and robust results in estimating the relative pose between the involved spacecraft).
This video shows the result of a batch simulation comparing different Lidar scan frequencies in terms of the resulting pose estimation results--the estimated position is tracked over time and visualized as blue trajectory while the actual approach trajectory is visualized in green.
