Feels nice to have finished my first legitimate TAS in a while. If you haven't heard of the hack yet, it's a Kaizo hack made by Panga for the SMW Twitch streamer dram55 (hence the title). It's meant to be in line with the original Kaizo series, which it does pretty well, so I recommend trying it out.

Lol people saying he cheating because he ran through enemies or he ran through lava but obviously you haven't played the game to realize how shitty the hit boxes for these things were and the fact that he was wall jumping well thats a pixel perfect move to.

Remember, this is TAS, so save states and slow motion and a variety of other hacks are at play here.
I'm saying this because not everyone knows what that is and might be thinking this guy beat Grandpoohbear's record. Not everyone cares that much about speedruns and knows the terminology.
But, it's shocking to know that even with a perfected tool assisted run, GrandPooBear is only about 6 minutes shy of perfection on this nightmare of a game.

Darc Devel Poo's 100% run is 35 minutes.
poo didnt do the star world though, and im just assuming tas beat would theoretically beat him in the star world by 3~ minutes. poo got a very fast time but there is a possibility someone put there is still trying to beat him xd
Update: Poo now has 33:59 for 100%. That’s more than a 10 minute difference.

1) Was dumb and didn't realize it at the time (this was long before it was discovered).
2) Swimming goes slightly faster that way because of how SMW"s speed works.

you can. it's just a frame-perfect trick. it's not "fanmade", but rather a hack build off of the original game.

Its a Tool Assisted Speedrun. Google it.
Clingfilm Productions na he just has a lua file for it. I realize thats what makes it "tool assisted" but my point still stands

+- PrimalFlower - It's a TAS, where the game is run inside an emulator frame by frame so the input can be recorded per frame, with save states to re-record sections. It is not just a lua script. The lua script simply allows him to do things repeatably while recording the inputs the first time through. then the emulator generates a script with all the inputs and timing. To play it back the emulator just follows the script blindly, and things like this happen.
This is also how in the water zones his sprite is facing both ways (in reality he is alternating between left and right every frame) It's a very cool technique.

Actually, a damage boost is where you take a hit in order to propel your character past or through an otherwise impassable area. Noob.

A damage boost is when you use the invincibility frames that occur after taking a hit, & you use those few frames where you can't take damage (& are essentially "invincible") to "boost" you past an obstacle or enemy sprite; that is NOT what he was doing here, because he never took any damage... He phased right through the fishing boo & several other obstacles like he was the fucking ghost of mario's past. Not the same thing at all. I would get your shit straight before you go calling strangers "noob", because you have in-fact revealed yourself to be the true noob here.
Anyway, as impressive as the run was, i call bull-shit. There were just too many instances where he should've (& would've) died, under normal circumstances.

This is obviously fake. For example: at 8:09 -8:15 (you can see it better if you slow down the video to .25) Mario runs dirrectly through 2 different enemy projectiles without taking damage.

It's more fun to watch someone play with a Tool assistance.. You clearly run through enemies.. Jumping off walls, in mid air and everything else is basically cheating..

The hit detection is shit. I've literally seen baseballs, fireballs, ghosts, fish, etc. Go right through Mario. And somehow stomps on turtles by running face first into them. I'm sure the TAS would be less spastic when completing the levels if even half the enemies and objects did their job and killed Mario. The wall jumps are cheap too. Cheap and unrealistic tas run. Disappointed.
