I bought a 1985 Nauticat 44 a couple of years ago. I love the boat, but there are a lot of cons to it. But every con is because of an advantage that it achieved. For example, the 12.3' beam is narrow for a 44' boat, but it enters the waves easier. The pilot house and bulwarks give a lot of windage that limits upwind performance, but again they make the boat nicer in poorer (to terrible) weather conditions.
I think that the bottom line is that this boat is optimized for comfort at sea and not comfort at a marina. If you want to get to out of the way places, this is an awesome boat. If you want to hang out in the tropics, there are better boats to choose from. I think these boats are for the adventurer and not the marina socialite.
I think you need to get onboard one of these to really appreciate just how different they are. Once I stepped on the boat that was to be mine, I couldn't get my mind off of the pilot house and how nice it was with boat sliding doors open and an awesome breeze blowing through it. (This boat has sliding doors on both sides, but the port side door needs a backrest to be removed to get to it. Very nice configuration.) The idea of going down a six foot ladder into "the cave" of a typical sailboat just didn't appeal to me after seeing one of these.
They want a lot of money for it, but she looks like she's in great shape.

How about a talk through instead of that annoying computer generated background noise? (Cannot be called music)
