My Pet Chicken is the "middle man" for Meyers Hatchery. Chicks do not ship from Connecticut they ship from Ohio (Meyers). They do have good customer service representatives as does Meyers.
@@CountryLivingExperience Not really. I'm in Ohio and got chicks from Ideal and all arrived alive and well. Same for Hoover hatchery(Iowa and free shipping). Meyers, if you order waterfowl, come out of California. I've ordered from Cackle before, too. They actually shipped my order to Denver, Colorado some how(twice). I haven't ordered from them since.
Good Luck with your chickens. I just ordered 5 Rhode Island Reds and 5 Barred Rocks. I have been raising chickens for 32 years and find these are the best. Our local feed store orders them for you and they are delivered from March to September where you pick them up at the store. I usually order day olds but this year I am getting 6 week old started chicks in May that way I will not have to put them under the heat lamp.
I’ve been ordering from Ideal Poultry for a number of years. Then Didn’t have chickens for a few years . Ordered again this year & the customer service at Ideal Poultry is still the best I’ve had & so nice. The chicks are healthy & so far true to their descriptions.
Cackle Hatchery $20 small flock fee + $20-30 shipping. Depending on amount of birds. 27 cent tax per bird also.... just did an order sadly but needed chick asap and a certain breed.
@@CountryLivingExperience I am asking you. I know it's been awhile but I am not having success with my pet chicken chicks. I wish I thought to shop closer to home.
I LOVE cackle Hatchery, the prices they have for bulk shipments of meat birds is second to none. I've also read online where they might accidentally send a few females in with the males. Kind of hoping that happens, never too many egg layers!
Thanks for this. It's far premature for me to order chicks. At least six months away for me to prep for bird arrival. You made me look to see what's near me. North Alabama. Not happy with what I've found in hatcheries. But time to keep looking. Your video gives my closest at Cackle. 9 hours away. Oh well. I've got time. Finding a Hatcher will come when I'm ready and rightly prepared for their arrival. Ideal poultry is 13 hours. I'll be ordering in the summer. I know, I know... Bad timing. But I'm spending a lot of effort building A Great Hen House and Run. Doing it right will be worth the wait. What's your opinion on a Hatcherie being too far?
Enjoyed the information which helped me purchase 25 chicks. I have always bought from Murray McMurray Hatchery, Webster City, IA (Tractor Supply, but no longer because they are way too expensive compared to these Hatcheries. It’s so strange, I’m looking to order 4 chicks, I’m in Massachusetts and the shipping price on My Pet Chicken (just next door in Connecticut) is $58!!!
it is harder to ship a small order safely. if you can find someone to order ,usually 15 birds, it is safer for the chicks and the costs drop significantly
So I went to Ideal. I put in 10 Bantam chicks (hope for 50% female) at $5 each which gets me to $50. Then I went to the Cart and discovered a $20 up charge. So Cackle is cheaper because I can get 5 female chicks with no extra cost for shipping for $72. Includes vaccine at Cackle. No extra roos to deal with. No extra feed cost. No extra work. The last time I bought 10 SR chicks, I only got 3 females. Ideal doesn't sell female bantams so its a no brainer for me.
@@CountryLivingExperience That's what I'm saying. Ideal only sells straight run for certain chicks. I don't want SR. Cackle sells sexed bantams. Bantams are great for small yards. We aren't all privileged to live on a large farm.
Cackle is the ONLY hatchery that will sell sexed bantam chicks. They are auto sexed breeds and 5 chicks cost $72 in 2023. That includes everything including shipping. They usual include an extra so you may get 6 or 7. I like the bantams but back in the day, you had to order 25 bantam chicks which was just too many for me.
Hoover did have solid prices but it is located too far away. I prefer to get them from a closer hatchery so it limits the time the chicks are in the mail. (and in the "care" of the usps)
Hoovers is horrible! All my Speckled Sussex arrived dead, a few of my Welsummers also, and the rest were weak. End of March shipment. Hoover did not put a heat pack or gel in the box! Hoovers has a poor reputation with alot of chicken owners throughout the country according to forum I checked after this horrible experience I had.

Good to know. Still too far away for us though. Ideal poultry was wonderful. Great, healthy chicks.

Thank you for this video I was going to pay 71$ as well for some chicks this year and I had never heard of ideal poultry, thank you!
You’re welcome

Thank you Lynda. Great choice on your chicks! I am excited and so are my girls. Been far too long since I have had chickens.

Absolutely! I love ordering from them.
Ideal poultry is the best. I recommend them all the way. 1010 customer service 1010 ordering more in the future
This has been so helpful. Just the video I needed.
Wonderful. Glad it helped.
Thanks, very helpful. We are a bit closer to Ideal Poultry than you are, need to finish the chicken coop first...
They won't need the coop for about a month. As long as you have your brooder in place, you should be good to go!
I bough my 3 geese from ideal. Good site
My favorite is Cackle Hatchery!
Dang perfect. I was looking for a Texas based site. I was about to order from Cackle but Im gonna buy from Ideal now. Thanks
Awesome. They have been great.

I ordered from hoover and mcmurrey hatchery this year
ok cool
How did it go with your chicks?

Very cool! I have had great luck with Ideal Hatchery here in Texas.
I'm going to be ordering from Ideal Poultry too.
Awesome. They were fantastic to deal with.
Local hatcheries can sometimes be a better deal, or on CL some people sell excess chicks that are hatched.
For sure. If you can find them with the breeds you want. My locals did not have much.
I order from Meyer and just ordered from purely poultry. Meyer is amazing. We will see about purely poultry.
Cool. Let us know how Meyer is
Murray McMurray. Ordered several times from them. Never disappointed me.
Cool. I looked at them too.
Try HOOVER'S Hatchery
Love Hoover hatcheries won't use anyone else
My pet chicken prices are insane. I don't see any on there at the prices you showed. I see them priced at over $20 a piece. lol

What's your opinion on a Hatcherie being too far?
If it is too far, the chicks may not get there in a decent amount of time. They can only survive a few days in shipping.

Location is good if you are ordering standard breeds but what if you are ordering rare breeds?
Then location is wherever you can get the breed. But the closer the better so that they will have the shortest travel time possible.
I love cackle hatchery

why do some of these websites have the same picture from another website of chickens do they get their chickens from the same breeder?
Maybe it is a stock photo that they purchased.
All my orders for chicks come from ideal. I order my eggs from Meyer's. Only two places I will order from.
Very cool
U must buy 15 from there I thought
Darn amazon valves out of stock. Do u recommend another one?

I loved the mission of ideal hatchery but lost 1/2 of the birds. Chats with other farmers recommended that I change hatcheries. Not impressed
I have never had the slightest problem with Ideal.
