    The option at 2:50 requires really good speed control - that is really hard to do on tournament tables that you maybe never played on and dont know the speed of the cloth. But for league tables that you know well, it could be an option.
    I also feel in general that leaving the 8 ball near the cushion with a white in a perpendicular line will lead to really easy banks. I for example would consider the leave at 2:30 as an easy bank shot - a simple half ball hit on the black will pot in many cases.

    At 3:00 you need to shoot that shot every time. If you get in the mind set of ducking on that ball you will never get better. That's a basic shot that every player needs to learn, and it comes up a lot. Once you develop muscle memory and a good stroke that shot is simple. Use a little outside english to avoid skid if that's what you're afraid of. But never ever duck on that shot. And I don't see how kicking at it is a higher % to either make it or get safe than to just shoot the damned shot. If the safety is as difficult or more difficult than the shot, always shoot the shot.
    A lot of these safeties you are executing you are leaving your opponents cut shots and in the case of leaving the cue ball and the 8 ball on the side rails, that's an easy cross side bank. On a barbox it's a ridiculously easy cross corner bank if the balls are a little lower.
    Leaving your opponent a long bank and getting both balls on or very close to the rail is fine, that's a routine safety. But a lot of these shots you need to shoot. And I'm not saying to go shoot really low percentage shots, I'm saying hit balls until these aren't low percentage shots. You usually won't win by ducking when your opponent leaves you a cut shot where you can actually see the contact point and aren't back cutting the ball (where you can't see the contact point).

    I also played League pool and some of the shots you showed would get easily get potted in, especially if they are the side pockets, those are potted 80% of the time in the league i played. Players actually practice the side bank shots, so rather pot. As for the longer shots those get cut in.
    I would say it is good to have a defensive strategy because it completes your game, but more importantly the player must seize up how good the other player is. The same shot could be a goo defensive play against one opponent but huge blunder against another. So its really about spotting your opponents weaknesses and forcing him/her to stay out of their comfprt zone
    Great videos btw, i subbed.

    Hi Alexander! Good video!
    In a shot at 3:50 I think a pro would probably cut it down the rail or played another kind of safety, maybe cutting the 8 thinly to the end rail.. Can't imagine Earl or Daren playing a kick when they can see the whole ball like that

    Our pool tournaments require you to pot the 8 ball in the opposite pocket from the pocket you put your last ball. Playing long bank shots is pretty easy is played at the right pace. You'll always leave the cueball near your pocket and the white at the opposite side.

    what i hate,my opponent is on the 8 ball and the 8 ball is close to a pocket and i have a difficult shot on my object ball,one time my object ball was tight on the end rail and cueball is at other end ,what kind of shot should i do? kick in?2 or 4 rail bank shot?

    OK, the disclaimer about league players helps, because I was gonna say that thumbnail shot I’d never play safe on..

    good stuff.. i havent played league in a while due to some unforseen circumtances..we did make it to the city on a few ocassions..if i was out of time outs our team captain always use to tell me if i thought i had less than a 70% chance of making the shot to play safe.

    • @tslaza
      @tslaza 7 лет назад

      Luis X I 100% agree I tell me players the exact same thing...the 70% rule works and of you are disciplined enough to remember that 70% rule and play safe rather than aggressively trying to play a difficult shot such as a bank, then you will control your fate on the table more than handing games over to your opponent because you went for the win when you won't make the shot at least 7bout of 10 times... good comment and advice brother

    a few of those are fairly easy up the long rail cut shots for me.. and I'm only a B- player on a good day.

    this is great safety play against week armature players,
    I'm going to make a high % of long rail banks if you don't leave me stuck on the rail, and i can make 99% of your cut shots into the corner pockets. However if your opposition is feeling the heat or pressure, then these work fine.....

  • @chrismartin3618
    @chrismartin3618 9 лет назад +4

    you leave an A shooter or maybe even a B shooter any of those shots that are supposed to be safe..... and they are sinking it for the win. it would be good for less experienced shooter tho.

    Im sitting here watching your video and with some shots Im wondering why you aren't kicking it in esp to the side pockets. If you got the skill to do what your doing then you got the skill to kick. And then you started doing it, Yeah! Personally I love the kick shot and have now learnt to do it consistently.

      +Kev Gawne you must be some kind of player, because where I come from, they have a saying, "kickers go home broke"... and that is usually the case. Not everybody can kick like BATA...

    2:50 I would be cutting that in I wouldn't not be banking that. SOME of his safeties would be made in the league I play, sorry I disagree with alot of this.... 3:20 again I would cut not kick WTF

    I love reading the commentary from all the keyboard sideline Pool pros... lol... I bet half of you people couldn't make the shots your claiming to make 3 out of 10 times. A good safe game is what separates bar room bankers and Leauge 3's and 4's from 7's+. I love playing against the players that play to make balls every shot when the clear choice is a good safe. good video even as a reminder to be patient and NEVER GIVE A GAME AWAY!

      @fastone371 7 лет назад

      Leaving your opponent a full ball hit is hardly playing safe. When I play safe my goal is to make my opponent kick or jump just to make a hit. Forcing your opponent to bank may be pretty solid advice when playing on a Diamond but on a Valley they are pretty likely to make that bank. A better option when there are only 2 balls left may be to attempt to tie the balls up with each other if possible, its usually much harder for your opponent to pocket the 8 that way than forcing them to bank.

  • @jeddfarley
    @jeddfarley 8 лет назад +1

    The 1st shot you should be comfortable banking the 8 since later around 3min you can kick so easily. I just wanted to add that I bank the short side of the pocket so if it doesn't go in it bounces back off to the short rail amd gives me a wider volume of error. can't tell you how many games I won and safety played at the same time just like the second half of your video.

    • @tslaza
      @tslaza 7 лет назад

      Jed Farley your correct.. it's called a 2 way shot.. you play to make the ball but if yo u miss you leave your opponent safe.

  • @safronio

    when shooting a safety do you have to hit your ball first?

    • @GameboyZoneRocks
      @GameboyZoneRocks 8 лет назад +2

      Yes. If 8-ball is the only ball you have on table, you'd obviously hit the 8-ball first

    • @tslaza

      I don't agree with you. the video is to remind players that defensive shots are just as important as offensive shots. I am a high ranking player at a 6/7 in 9 ball and what separates players from 4"s and 5's is the discipline to play safe on 8 and 9 ball shots instead of forcing a bank shot. it's unfair to critique this video the way you did... do you play and/or compete in pool?

      Without question your comment is an undeserved cheap shot. His premise has real value, i.e., many times players shoot a low percentage shot (commonly due to ego), when the best percentage shot is a safety. Maybe *you* could make a video that would demonstrate a better approach? If you've watched his other videos it's obvious that he's a very good player, and good for him that he's willing to share his expertise.
