Nice fillet on vertical fin, scares a lot of builders. Installation of IC power including tank, plumbing and exhaust is tricky, electric power is much easier, except for making functional side door and window for battery pack access. I enjoy my old 1/6 scale electric powered Cub and trying to fly scale-like.
Hey Andy! Lookin great, nice kit. I watch your vids cause you give great ideas for planes. Royal blue and yellow. Good colors! That same colors were on my Dad's Champ, mine was royal blue and white.
Boy Andy your work is on a whole other level from mine. Beautiful covering. But my question for you is engine standoffs. In particular where can I get some. I need to space out my engine about one inch on my Cub. Thanks.
When I built my 1/6 scale I didn't even try to do the open structure fillet on the fin. I knew I wasn't that good! I filled it with balsa and shaped it. This kit was originally intended for silk and dope and that would have been easier but I used so much dope in the old days that I had to go to rehab {LOL}
Looks great, perseverance paid off for you, I have tried your method several times but not to be, Ready to give up. I used Sig Koverall on my 1/4 cub and it the Sig instruction works well with this material. my 1/5 scale using ultracote is proving too difficult even using your method.
Hi Andrew, Coming along nice. I envy your build space. I have two sister who moved back in with my father and myself and all my work space have been taken over. We have no garage I could use.
Nice work Andrew, Nicest Cub on the planet for sure.. I am building a Sig kit and going with a DLE 35. On your shortening of the firewall a full 1.5 inches without recessing it in the outer shell and attachment point of the cowl how are you gaining the room in there to get that engine back? I see it for the muffler but the firewall looks flush to the sides.Lengthening the cowl or recessing the firewall is the only thing that makes sense to me to keep that spinner hub from sticking way out of the cowl.
@@n1114v have you personally ordered from their website, it looked a little weird to me, but I’m ready to order either the 1/5 or 1/4 clipped cub, do you think it’s good for a beginner as well?
Andrew Gideon yeah for sure, just wondering if it was possible with the design! man love your channel keep up the great work and the content absolutely wicked

I usually glass some washers on the inside of the cowl where the screws go to prevent any splitting at those points. Great build :)

Believe me, I had thought about it!

That area in the 1/5 scale is very small, witch is why it's more difficult to do. May have to put in a balsa block and shape it.

Well there's always the kitchen table!
plz plan
Andy. Do you have the video showing the firewall modifications?
I believe one of the build videos has the firewall in it

I was wondering why you wouldn't go with your own color scheme ? just to take a step further from looking like other Cubs ?
For a clipped Wing Cub nothing is more pretty than Hazel cigs original blue and white
@@n1114v Great 8) thank you for the Reply
That is going to turn out great. Lot of work but in the end it will be nice.
I hope so.
What do you fly full scale? I’m also a pilot and have a Baby Great Lakes biplane and a highly modified Pitts.
Whatever I can get my hands on. I don't fly very much anymore but I have a lot of friends that are more than willing to give me the stick for a while
Where did you get this
Do you purchase from the sigmfg site, and how long did it take, I’m looking to get into this hobby, this will be my first plane
@@liljakie1313 I've had the kit for years...... still available through sig though.

@@liljakie1313 I would call them to make sure they have kits in stock. The cub is a pretty advanced build.
Awesome plane
Thanks!
is possible to add a door
It is possible to add a door on the Sig kit but I'm not going to since it's just a sport plane
