I often use canopy glue and pins or spring paper clips to install windscreens. I install windscreens before installing side windows. I pre-make holes around top and sides of windscreen by forcing pins through it into balsa scrap. I apply a film of canopy glue to top of fuselage and pin top of windscreen to structure using small needle nosed pliars gripping pins near the point. Next I apply canopy glue to one side pillar and pin one side of windscreen to the pillar. Finally, I apply canopy glue to other pillar and pull windscreen into position and pin it to the pillar. I have also used spring paper clips to clamp sides of windscreen flat to side pillars while glue dries. Canopy glue dries crystal clear and minor excess glue almost disappears. Excess glue can also be removed with damp cotton swabs while still wet and milky in color.
Hi Andrew, Looking awesome. I would go for the button head screws as they would have a more rounded appearance. Would also allow you to order a length that wont protrude into the interior of the fuse by the wind screen. Stay safe.
Thanks for this video, Andy! I'm currently rebuilding a Balsa USA L-4 and this is very helpful. The video made me think of attaching a scrap of the side window material to the windshield post with double faced tape to avoid any fitting surprises later. I got some #0x3/8" socket head button screws for this purpose from Micro Fasteners. Subbed.

Hey Andrew. I am building a 1/4 scale L-4 and used clear monokote for the side windows and the green house canopy.. worked perfectly. Just a suggestion.
Looks great! Almost done. The RTL master assortment of hardware is super handy to have. You are never without screws and other hardware. It's also nice to swap kits out from metric to standard as well or if you are like me and drop/lose parts. Anyway I bought it and use it on every build.
You have really great videos bud. I think you should show a video of covering with monokote from absolute start to finish. I thoroughly enjoy your videos!! I’m a builder and have acquired many older SIG kits. Keep up the great videos!
When you do your side windows make it so that the windshield overlaps on the side window because when the aircraft flies thru the air it will not work on the seam.
Spectacular!! You have inspired me. I recently won a ball so USA quarter scale carb at an auction. It was at one time a very nice plane but has fallen in disrepair. I am in the process of restoring it and guess what? I am at the windshield. I was hoping I would find a link to a template for your windshield. Do you have a link to a template online? Thank you in advance, and keep up the good work!
Oh the joys of modeling. The wind screen for the 1/6 scale was pre cut and it did not fit. Took some careful, bit by bit trimming . I sometimes feel sorry for the state of the hobby now. Some folks in our club are afraid to even tackle a balsa ARF let alone an old school kit. How about we do a scratch off plans? :););)
Hello Andy I am going to build a SIG 1/4 clipped wing Cub, I saw your 2020 video where you show a similar model, my question is what engine did you install on that clipped wing cub, is it a 30 CC gas? I appreciate your prompt response, bye
@@n1114v Thanks Andy, with this I avoid modifying the firewall and having to break the cowl, I am enjoying your instructive videos, thanks for sharing your techniques, they will be very useful for me when building this clipped wing, receive a warm greeting from Sonora Mexico, see you bye

How did the dle20 power it? Was it enough?
@@jamiel2585 hello sir
Yes the DLE 20 is lots of power for this plane if you stay around 6 kg ( 2,5 hp)
Only à few things with this engine
Very reliable,
Starts very easy by hand

And at last exhaust pipe comes loose easily

I have a 1/4 scale Sig cub from 1996 I built and am still flying it with a G38 in it .
With all that beautiful work I hope you never crash it.
They all do eventually
...by the way, nothing fits better than Old School technique and a Cup👍 thanks for sharing.
Very true!

I'm usually always stocked up on supplies from micro fasteners. But wouldn't you know it I'm just about out of everything, time to reorder!
Andrew Gideon yeah, I hate it when that happens!!
Looks nice ... thanks for sharing ... can't wait to see her fly.
Very well done I'm getting things in line to build a Balsa USA 1/4scale piper cub kit and like how you did the windows
It was one of my best builds!

You can get the plans from balsa USA, the template should be on there. Since this on is a SIG it may not be the same

Love the blue and white great job . Its not as nice as the 109 you are selling me but its nice.
Looking really great!
What did you use to cut the polystyrene sheet (?) so the edges were neat. Looks great... congrats!
Very sharp scissors
Nice job.
what size gas engine? thanks darren
Andy, I have to ask how the heck did you see to trace the windscreen outline on to your taped sheet of lexan?
I made a template off the plans

Thinking about an L-4
Do you use the original cowls and wheel pants that come with your kits or do you order them from fibertech and skip the assembly part
I used the kit supplied on this build
What kind of motor and mounts are those?
DLE 30
Those tires look rock hard
There dubro, pretty soft.
i asked ! and thanks that’s simpler then i thought
