    The Mic 2 is sold with the wireless receiver bundle also. Any wireless mic would need a receiver to work, but that's just me. The standalone Mic2 is sold for Pocket 3 users who want an extra mic to connect directly, or as a replacement in case you damage yours, and you don't have to buy a whole new set to replace it.

    • @TechMixr
      @TechMixr  3 месяца назад +7

      It doesn't need the receiver to work for some purposes. The point is that they sell the mic on its own and advertise that it's 32 bit capable. What they don't say is that you need additional hardware. I did the tests in this video without the receiver in use (it was un-paired from the mic).
      If the intention to sell the mic was strictly for Pocket 3 users or as a spare, they should disclose that you need a set with the receiver, or the Osmo Pocket 3 to get full use from it. Instead, it markets the low price point to get people who don't know better to buy the mic on its own. Go on reddit and you'll see angry people complaining about this. No other company gets away with this kind of thing, and as good as a company as DJI is, this is shameful.

    • @pishedbloke
      @pishedbloke 3 месяца назад +3

      @@TechMixr I guess some people were confused, and the company should not assume everyone to be tech savvy. You are right, they should cater their information to all levels of customers

      @@pishedbloke believe me, I hate even protesting this at all. I do LOVE that company, and doing this video probably will disqualify me from getting a sponsorship from them later in life like many other content creators get.
      But the reality is, it needed to be said. I hope the broader community holds them accountable so that they don’t pollute their corporate values with this kind of thing. There are very few quality-companies left that don’t participate in this practice. Don’t want DJI to fall behind.

    • @Matt-fo4gg
      @Matt-fo4gg 3 месяца назад +1

      @@TechMixr Realistically it's not that difficult for them to solve this either - they could do a firmware update that allows the mic to have config settings on a .txt file in the internal storage. So anyone without a receiver or Action 4/Pocket 3 can toggle settings that way.
      On reddit they're actually suggesting that people go and find a DJI store to change the settings, and on their forum they just tend to reply with "We've forwarded this onto the team for feedback" such a joke, the lack of urgency to fix such a major oversight. & like you said at the end, there's no reason the standalone mic can't do 32bit.
      Appreciate you doing the video too, they 100% need to be called out on this stuff. Last product I had from them was the first DJI Pocket and that had similar oversights. Like if you plug your Android phone into it as the monitor/controller, the phone would drain power from the camera. Yet I think an iphone would charge the camera (as most would expect). All the comments on the forums were effectively "That's just how it is, we can't do anything about it". Apparently it does it on the Pocket 2 as well. I think the worst part is when their fans justify their poor design choices and oversights.

    • @TechMixr
      @TechMixr  2 месяца назад +1

      @@Matt-fo4gg you nailed it.
      I was genuinely disappointed by some of the responses to this video. I’m not trying to be click bait at all. I mean this probably hurts my ability to ever get a brand deal with them in the future, I just wanted to make people aware of what was actually happening.
      The sad reality is that there will be fans who justify companies doing these bad practices which ultimately hurts consumers. Objectivity tends to be lost at times. For example, I exclusively use Apple products because it’s easier for my workflow. But, but no means am I an Apple fanboy (check my WWDC video)- I dunk on them constantly for their shortcomings and weird marketing.
      I guess it is what it is. But back on topic, the txt file idea would work and is a great idea (extremely similar to how Elgato allows you to change some settings on their 4K 60 S capture card by editing the settings txt file on the SD card).

    I think the issue has to do with the transmitter/recorder patent held by Zaxcom in the US, who have sued Rode in the past for violating. Having the receiver AND the transmitter might be the work around for the patent to not get sued. Deity and Zaxcom have made a deal where they can do it with their theos lavs.
    The question is if you bought one of these in Europe would you still have the same issue? If you do then yeah DJI should correct it.

      @TechMixr  3 месяца назад

      @@wes_film interesting take! It may be worth asking someone there to check.
      The issue is that on all of their product pages, there’s no mention of this limitation. They tout that the Mic 2 transmitter only is capable of 32 bit, but don’t specify anywhere that you need the receiver.
      Wouldn’t that put them in hot water legally just based on their product pages? As it stands now, it comes across as anti-consumer.

    I think this is done to "encourage" you to buy the receiver. But honestly 32bit isn't a big of a deal as you might think. The point of these devices is to capture dialog and even with 32bit it is possible to clip by shouting into the mic because it exceeds the sound pressure of the mic and the preamp. In addition it doesn't transmit 32bit so it doesn't prevent clipping of the wireless only the recording.

      @@petercofrancesco9812 The way I’m using it is via the recording in the transmitter and syncing in post (I sync video all day as a video contractor so this workflow is easy)
      I noticed a huge difference going from the wireless 1 to the wireless 2 (especially using voice in isolation Final Cut) - 32 bit float is kind of a game changer for many, including myself as I’ve been in production for 20 years and this new-found flexibility is amazing.
      That being said, I don’t have a massive issue with it not being able to change settings without the additional hardware - it is annoying. The issue is DJI not disclosing this in the sale of the standalone transmitter. And their solution is to ‘go to a nearby DJI store and connect the transmitter to a sample device for function settings’, is tone deaf (that was their reply to me on Twitter / X): x.com/djisupport/status/1817752775364891085?s=46&t=U44riVumKHtwb8ECCKmz7A

      @@Brianized I agree. I’ve been mostly lucky. In the latest video I’m working on, I just recorded internally on the mic and the scratch audio is the on-camera mic. I can definitely hear the difference vs using the original DJI mic with the receiver wired in to receive the wireless audio. I use Final Cut Pro and literally, the first thing I do is sync the audio up, remove the scratch audio, do my color correction/ grade and then make a compound clip (nested clip for other NLEs). Then do my edits as needed.
      I think this will serve well as I really don’t have a need for the wireless receiver. If I do need it, I have my DJI wireless 1 set although, I find myself using it less and less as of late.
      Also, as long as the timeline is set to 48 khz- I haven’t noticed any audio drift whatsoever even having done a 2 hour session. So the internal recording is great on the transmitter, but the USB speed is a little painful. The cheaper NAND flash worries me.

I’d get the full version with the receiver and plug in the receiver directly to your iPhone (there’s adapter pieces that snap onto the receiver with USB-C and lightning). This way, it’s not Bluetooth, the quality will be much better and if you wanted to keep a video later, you can internally record with it and get that 32 bit audio (as long as it’s enabled in the receiver beforehand).
