This beautiful song is MUCH too short!!.... I remember hearing it in my childhood sitting in the car of my parents driving home in the dark of the night. Amazing.
This is exactly the same as when I used to listen to this song! Driving in my parents car coming back from cousins feeling emotional I wouldn’t see them again for months as they lived so far away but happy that I’d had such a great time with them. My dad has dementia now and no longer drives but still recognises this song - it still makes me so emotional to listen to it but more for the sense of time and beautiful memories ❤
I remember when this song came out in the '80s I was driving home about 2:00 a.m. in the summer with all my windows down, it was definitely the perfect song to listen to all alone and just driving with not a care in the world.. the '80s were epic

I remember this song as a 21 year old college student, driving back home from Kansas, to Indiana, Pennsylvania, where I was going to college, at the time. It was 2:00-3:00 am crossing over into the state of Ohio, on what I can best describe as the most beautiful Moon lit night that I have ever seen. The sky and the moon had fully Illuminated, both the corn fields, and Interstate highways as I drove my beater 83' Nissan Sentra, while smoking really good weed, munching on Tasty Cakes, drinking ice cold soda, and thinking to myself, what a most perfectly blissful moment in time. I am just thankful to have felt that way in the moment, at that time. It was a pinnacle moment for me, that will never will be replicated, ever again in my lifetime. Thank you Bruce.
Trina Absolutely. I have this on a playlist I named “clock radio”. I had an old bedside clock radio and would sometimes listen to songs while staring at the ceiling late at night long ago. This was one of those songs, and instantly transports me back to those days.
Much of the brilliance of this song lies in its understated production. Its power lies in leaving the bass up to the imagination, where the rest of the tracks "hydroplane" above an ethereal 1-note synth tension that doubles as the 9th of the tonic and the 11th of the 6th chord when transitioning. The drums feel like the "freight train" being sung about, with an overall master reverb treatment that places the listener in an abandoned train station somewhere in the middle of nowhere, wistfully waiting for a train that may or may not come.
I could listen to this song 1000x on repeat and still not get sick of it! Best song ever made! The beat, the rhythm, the voice, the lyrics, the meaning! Wooahh
I remember this song came on in the recovery room after my parents had forced me to have an abortion at the age of 15...one of the hardest and saddest days of my life. I still cry when I hear it and I'm 53 years old. I still feel the loss...and this song is so sad and beautiful...it brings it back to me. I was so ashamed, but I realize now- the decision was not MINE. I lost a part of ME that day. The father passed away recently and I hope he's holding our baby in his arms now...I'll see her/him someday...
So sorry. I can’t imagine the pain of having to do that when it wasn’t a choice you made. You will see your baby one day and he or she will always know you loved them and never forgot about them.❤️
So sorry. Sending love and hugs your way. I can relate to you in so many ways. Same happened to me too, when I was 33. My husband forced me. I cry every single time I hear the song “she’s like the wind.” It was the first song I heard on the radio in my house when we got back home. I lost a huge part of me that day, and a part of me died. I live with this everyday. I try not to think about it so much. But it breaks my heart. God bless you, and the father, and your baby, always ❤️ from one mama to another, I love you !
Unattainability. The most intense joy lies not in the having, but in the desiring. Delight that never fades, bliss that is eternal, is only yours when what you most desire is just out of reach...

1984 when i used to leave my girfriends house in kewdale and drive back to bedford this song was the ultimate driving song especially on those cool hot summer nights
My favorite Springsteen song, hands down. One of his shorter songs, but an absolute classic. Perfect for a long summer night, definitely on the 4th of July playlist with many other Springsteen songs.
The man is/was a musical genius--and his lyrics are raw and to the point. "I got a freight train runnin through the middle of my head over you"--when you are madly in love that is exactly what happens--whether you're a man or a woman and he captured the agony and ecstasy of love in this simple song--that takes genius. Did you notice the tempo is just like a train? Genius.
Toby Rathsavong may be songs with I’m on fire in them but I do believe Bruce wrote his version in 1982 as a song he felt Elvis would sing . I don’t believe the others have the same lyrics or music . Something for me to look up though.
For some reason this song flashed across my mind this morning, I haven't heard this song every since I was a kid when my mother used to play this song all the time. And my mother is still alive

I’ve reached the conclusion that this song expresses human sentiment and desire in such a natural way that it makes truly a masterpiece. Even the short length of the song perfectly fits the message and meaning of it. Who knows? Maybe if it was lengthier it wouldn’t be as good as it is.
In 1975 Alex, a friend from HS, played a boot leg tape of you performing. Standing in my friend’s driveway in South Jersey listening to you became one of my many fav musical experiences. The tape I just mentioned was not the same boot leg tape of you at The Main Point performing of one of my all time favs ‘Fever’. WMMR ‘s Ed Sciaky comes to mind. Then we saw you in Philly in ‘75. We were all hooked. Man where does the time go…

We can also read you're an idiot, Ronnie. He's just typing lyrics down so people don't have to search for them around the internet. So please, take your salty, troll ass back to your mother's basement.
Kun Repinac Well we certainly all would like to thank you for sparing us by not seeing you. I mean putting up a cartoon profile pic certainly says a lot. Tells me everything I need to know.
Ronnie B it is actually a drawing of a dragon done by me, but seeing you can't even understand the difference between a drawing and a cartoon I truly dont think I can help you
SoundMaker - MUSIC PRODUCTION I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.
SoundMaker - MUSIC PRODUCTION Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost.
there's something about this song that always takes me back to spending my summers in new england, specifically on the cape. it gives off that cherishing summer feel, passing the days in beach towns with friends and family. what a timeless piece, love springsteen's work
After personal experience I believe this song isn’t about love or lust it’s about silencing or pushing away a deeper pain by loving someone else instead of confronting the real problems. The pain makes you on Fire. It burns and is dealt with in the song by focusing on someone else and pushing it away. I was in a relationship and it wasn’t till after it ended I figured this out. You have to confront this personal pain instead of silencing it. It’s extremely difficult but even recognizing this changed my life.
@@nathanparrish9136 think about it, he's saying he's gonna blast it so much & so loud that his neighbors will discover the song & naturally fall in love with it
I seriously love this song ad truly cannot understand the 2500 fools who have given it a thumbs down. There are times I have had it on repeat for over three hours and never get bored.
The drums make this song so - kick drum on the beat followed by the rim shot on the off-beat. Bruce's voice is dreamy and real heart-felt. This is an excellent recording - very intimate.
For me this song is about those killer summer nights, tossing and turning in bed either alone, or with that person who's chemistry just sets you on fire. The intense raw physical connection, booty to die for and it takes a hold on you. Even when it should not, because maybe it's not the right timing, or the right person. It's electrifying, a short love affair, leaves you wanting more. All though it's just desire, totally mind blowing moments and memories to cherish a life time.
My brother used to sing this under the bridge that we passed under every night on our way home before he passed away. I still stop now and then and sing in his memory and wonder how he was so in tune with the acoustics.
Herr Fister ...not JUST that. Some good, solid people and ways and means and music and certain kinds of...dont know if style is the right word, but....a purity, a gritty real honesty about life and everything good in it is....at times harder to find for some. Or there is simply not enough of it, as there was back then. Everything and everyone is too connected and too aware at times in their life...when before, it wasnt a 24 hour on and open sign just about ANYWHERE n for Anything. Know what I mean? It seems like nowdays, alot of folks need to feel validated by total strangers. Cannot explain it much clearer. Maybe I am just getting old, too. The way this society as a whole is headed, am happy to be on the downhill side...or slide😁...of 50 yo. Slainte. Happy New Year all...to you n yours, keep the love close to family and friends😉
In his autobiography Bruce writes that he has a mediocre voice and not a great range (and that's why he had to start writing excellent songs to get further than the local hero status of his youth) but here he really sings beautifully!
I agree. Sometimes Bruce and I agree to disagree. Like Bob Dylan, he is a musical genius that plays by his own rules because everybody else’s rules don’t accommodate.
This song always hits home with me.....very true & real message! Too many good women have been treated badly by pieces of s#@t guys! Been on the receiving end more than once, thanks to them! Go Bruce!

The simple memories like that are the best, you have no idea how valuable they are until looking back.
This song is about wanting something you can't have. The song is short, and you want more of it, but can't have it, which is why you love it.

Much of the brilliance of this song lies in its understated production. @Robyn #metoo ....oh ffs get a grip will ya? It's about lust, not rape.
One of my favorites. SUCH a great night driving song!
Missab4000 yeah
You're so right👍
1984 when i used to leave my girfriends house in kewdale and drive back to bedford this song was the ultimate driving song especially on those cool hot summer nights
That's what I'm doing right now
You should not comment on videos and drive
My favorite Springsteen song, hands down. One of his shorter songs, but an absolute classic. Perfect for a long summer night, definitely on the 4th of July playlist with many other Springsteen songs.
Man, I miss those 80's...good times, no divisiveness, no woke nonsense, good movies, great music, good clubbing.
@@jimreynolds8160ciao Jim! 🙋♀️😍😘💘🍀
Genius.
simply charming he is genius.
This is actually an old song,he didnt come up with the lyrics
Toby Rathsavong who and when? Same lyrics and music ?
@@cherie3283 yes same sing, there's a few different old school country artist that sings this song, almost like folk music
Toby Rathsavong may be songs with I’m on fire in them but I do believe Bruce wrote his version in 1982 as a song he felt Elvis would sing . I don’t believe the others have the same lyrics or music . Something for me to look up though.
The ecstacy in his voice makes you just want To melt
Karlee Smith .......melt would be on the conservative side for me.
I don't hear "ecstasy" in his voice (or, even "ecstacy")...I hear longing, sadness, dejection, loss, pain, uncertainty, etc...
I've never loved a song so much
For some reason this song flashed across my mind this morning, I haven't heard this song every since I was a kid when my mother used to play this song all the time. And my mother is still alive
This song is so sexy! I think i was 3 when it came out. But its MOST definitely on my list of top 5 greatest songs EVER.
I agree..
U are sick if u think a 3 year old is sexy
@@dambaeisseyo lmao

I’ve reached the conclusion that this song expresses human sentiment and desire in such a natural way that it makes truly a masterpiece. Even the short length of the song perfectly fits the message and meaning of it. Who knows? Maybe if it was lengthier it wouldn’t be as good as it is.
Try some of the longer live versions and decide :)
I agree
Gonzolo I agree
Agree
One of the best songs of all time. Nothing else like it
In 1975 Alex, a friend from HS, played a boot leg tape of you performing. Man where does the time go…
This is a good song to listen to while being up during the middle of the night.
Hey little girl is your daddy home
Did he go away and leave you all alone
I got a bad desire
I'm on fire
Tell me now baby is he good to you
Can he do to you the things that I do
I can take you higher
I'm on fire
Sometimes it's like someone took a knife baby
Edgy and dull and cut a six-inch valley
Through the middle of my soul
At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet
And a freight train running through the
Middle of my head
Only you can cool my desire
I'm on fire 🔥
Sixtine Satre we can hear. We came hear to listen to the song. Not to read the same exact song that your typing. What are you an idiot or something ?
We can also read you're an idiot, Ronnie. He's just typing lyrics down so people don't have to search for them around the internet. So please, take your salty, troll ass back to your mother's basement.
Well seeing you and your comments, I think that's actually a good idea.
Kun Repinac Well we certainly all would like to thank you for sparing us by not seeing you. I mean putting up a cartoon profile pic certainly says a lot. Tells me everything I need to know.
Ronnie B it is actually a drawing of a dragon done by me, but seeing you can't even understand the difference between a drawing and a cartoon I truly dont think I can help you
That synth is so smooth.
Patrick Bateman do u like Genesis?
SoundMaker - MUSIC PRODUCTION I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.
Nice to hear! And what do you think of Huey Lewis & The News?
SoundMaker - MUSIC PRODUCTION Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost.
Thats just amazing, Paul Allen! I have a reservation at Dorcia, gotta go now. See you!
there's something about this song that always takes me back to spending my summers in new england, specifically on the cape. it gives off that cherishing summer feel, passing the days in beach towns with friends and family. what a timeless piece, love springsteen's work
Every time I hear this it's the best two and a half minutes of my day! Love you Bruce!
I've listen to this song for about 2 hours in a row. Help me!!
I know what you mean you can't listen to it only once
just awesome, a truly masterpiece
The white buffalo version is better
Sure I'll help you.How can we clear your schedule so you can listen to it for another 2 hrs in a row? ;-)
2h is nothing, i can play it all day
One of my favourite song of Bruce Springsteen.I am a big fan of Bruce Springsteen.
I can't say how much I love this song. When it was released, I was 17. Yes. Now... some months later, I still freakin' love the song!
I was looking this up on RUclips, thinking this song would be so underrated-I'm am happily, and sorely, mistaken. I love this song so much!
...Love this country style song from Bruce...Great song....
One of the most soothing and feel good songs I've ever heard. So badass.

Beautiful song ❤❤❤❤
midnight, windows down, driving on an almost empty freeway, thinking of her soft cool hair running through my fingers, and how much I love my car.
I was a kid when Bruce and the E street band dropped this beat and still at 41 years of age in 2019 I’m still on Fire to this song. thank you
After personal experience I believe this song isn’t about love or lust it’s about silencing or pushing away a deeper pain by loving someone else instead of confronting the real problems.
Tell me more
Tell me more, did you get very far?
The first time I heard this song I was a kid in the 80’s And I knew then that it was a song that would stay with me forever
The worst week of my life.Thanx for this,Bruce!
listen to the album "Nebraska"
Hopefully it's getting better ☕
Hope this week is better than the last
this is my neighbors favorite song they just dont know it yet
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ha Ha Ha Ha :D
Moving in!!! "Sounds" like a great neighborhood!
are we there yet??...no babe...there's still a long way ahead...
@@nathanparrish9136 think about it, he's saying he's gonna blast it so much & so loud that his neighbors will discover the song & naturally fall in love with it
I seriously love this song ad truly cannot understand the 2500 fools who have given it a thumbs down. There are times I have had it on repeat for over three hours and never get bored.
makes you wonder why they came here in first place
Some fucking idiots take the "little girl" line literally because they have no understanding of nuance or imagery.
Favorite part is that howling thing he does towards the end, I feel that shit man.
Goosebumps bro
It's the fraight Train running through his head.
Lol
Mate, the fuck are you on about?
God Bless =)
Springs forth the Very Essence of our Souls🤙
I remember driving my brand new 1985 Pontiac Gran Am through the Tunnel in Baytown Texas when this came on the radio.
The drums make this song so - kick drum on the beat followed by the rim shot on the off-beat. Bruce's voice is dreamy and real heart-felt. This is an excellent recording - very intimate.
I've listened to most all of the covers of this song and NO ONE captures the longing and sensuality of this but Bruce. Mumford and Sons are a good #2.
I think Town Mountains version is the best cover. Hard to beat the original.
Chromatics version is a hundred times better.
try the staves version!!
It's the song that you hear out of nowhere and have to listen to..... . . an all time fave.
Cheers 🧡
One of the most soothing and feel good songs I've ever heard. So badass.
Sr Caputo
I need a 1 hour version of this AT LEAST.
This is why you shouldn't follow musical trends and write from the heart. An "Eighties" song that could just as easily been released today.
One of those rare songs that teases you with just enough and you know you want a lot more.. his best..
Its not long enough, must be replayed 5 time's, ty Bruce
For me this song is about those killer summer nights, tossing and turning in bed either alone, or with that person who's chemistry just sets you on fire. The intense raw physical connection, booty to die for and it takes a hold on you. Even when it should not, because maybe it's not the right timing, or the right person. It's electrifying, a short love affair, leaves you wanting more. All though it's just desire, totally mind blowing moments and memories to cherish a life time.
Alice Blue currently dealing with this exact same thing.. can’t believe I just read this.. 💔😰🤒
That’s deep , felt that so much missing the one that got away hope she comes back one day to me
Well said my friend.
voicesfrombeyond no, just one really amazing love affair 💞
Yeah, that
My brother used to sing this under the bridge that we passed under every night on our way home before he passed away. I still stop now and then and sing in his memory and wonder how he was so in tune with the acoustics.
Loved this song as a kid because it had a catchy beat...now as a woman I totally get it....the desire is timeless
Aah the 80s...endless summers..my favourite Nike's.....a glancing look from the girl you liked at school but never found the courage to ask her...
The world was a very different place when this song was released. Brings back memories.
so true...it's beyond recognisable now..this world..
You just got old
FireHeart217 very very true....
Herr Fister ...debating to thumbs up or down...but I am a pretty chill kind of woman. TRULY, Danielle.😆😀😁GO EAGLES!!!!!!🦅🦅🦅🦅
Short lived things are what life is all about. They wouldn’t be as beautiful if they lasted forever.
This song always hits home with me.....very true & real message! Too many good women have been treated badly by pieces of s#@t guys! Been on the receiving end more than once, thanks to them! Go Bruce!
