Those Duo Realis M62 5A’s are fantastic. That Red Tiger color you have can be very difficult to find. I got lucky and found 2 at Ollie’s (discount store) for about $5 each. Made my day!
Had some nice fish Tuesday ripping lipless baits off the bottom. Our bass seem to be in that magic 10’ depth on the first ledges, and there’s few baits that can get reactions like ripping Warpigs!
@MattStefanFishing Thank you. I am a riverbank fisherman here in Fredericton. We had so much rain since June our rivers about 3 feet higher than last year in the same month of August
I'm a self-proclaimed lipless connoisseur- an there's something about that War Pig that closes the deal man. I don't know what it is- I asked a few of them but- they weren't talkin'. But whatever it is- I really like it- in that color you showed specifically- and I'm fishing bluegill fisheries- go figure. For whatever reason- they like the shad color, they just bite it. And usually- I'm a big believer in the one knocker lipless cranks, took me a minute to even try the War Pig because -no offense to Berkley, but there's nothing obvious about it that makes it seem different. It looks and sounds pretty standard- but works especially well. I'm going to try that chatter bait setup you showed us though- I haven't thrown the elite yet. Just bought a new reel today to- which always motivates me to get on the water I love new gear. 13 Fishing Concept A- tough reel, I left it on top of my truck and drove off and had to go back and find it on the side of the road- it's fine- not a mark on it. It was in the box with padding, but I fully expected it to be busted- I'm relieved. It's not a cheap reel.
your tips are awesome bub. chatterbait is always my goto confidence bait but I'm trying to get into other reaction baits so this was awesome man. thank you so much.
Hey Matt!! Great video!! Love the looks of that chatterbait combo!! Update.. got home from work travel today and had my TW order of hover rigs waiting. Walked down to the dock and had a fish in the first 5 casts!! I rigged with a kvd dream shot because I didn’t want to open the flat worms. Amazing action and I love the versatility because you can fish it fast like a fluke with a deadly action or slow like a shaky head. Have a feeling it will hold a spot in my lineup for years to come! Thank you!!
Great tips as usual I really like the Spro Rock crawler specifically in the 55 size for the depths mentioned. But I'm definitely going to check out that Duo Realis I love their baits
I like Spro bucktail jigs for flounder and other saltwater fish. They make good stuff. I haven't played with their freshwater stuff but I imagine it's quality equipment.
@@MattStefanFishing I've heard a ton about that money badger as well I need to get a couple. I picked up a couple J walkers on your recommendation and they are sweet
Thanks Matt!! Your videos are done in the way fishing videos should be done. Great content, great tips, great info, all backed up by your great experience. And you do not get into politics. Thanks again!!
Matt I'm not sure how much, if at all, you've used the 13 fishing Magic Man series, but they quickly became my favorite lipless, and the lipless is one of my favorites as well.
Some of my favorite reaction baits are Chatterbait elite series, 5xd and 6xd sexy green shad, SPRO Essential Series Aruku Shad Lipless Crankbait chrome purple, Strike King Tour Grade Double Willow Spinnerbaits morning dawn olive shad, Reaction Innovations Vixen lime ice Silver Flitter Shad. Those are some of my favorite baits.
If I were your third grade teacher you would have gotten a gold star on your picks. That said I'm going to say that I think I'm growing scales. Five out of seven days this summer have been wet here in my neck of the woods. Wind, lightning and lots of rain. Uhh! But what I want to know is are you getting any hours on the dinghy? I would, I've some water around here that will never see the Ranger.
Thanks Matt, i think someone mentioned that you should start a subscription box, I'm in! I'm going to ask, but just ignore if you thing this is stupid 😊. But I sometimes struggle with trying to understand which baits are large mouth vs. small mouth and which are good for rivers vs. lakes. Is the answer that it doesn't matter...or does it just take more years of experience to figure it out?
Matt, you pitched your admiration for a few of these baits in prior videos, some as they were just coming out. Glad they passed the test. You had also hyped up sapphire blue plastics as a possible 2023 standout. How was your experience with that color and would other anglers agree? Did it pan out?
So I feel like the chatter bait don’t hunt unless you burn it kinda fast is that the case for you. Most of the time I use a consistent speed and I impart the action with my rod.
With regard to bucket mouth moving into bluegill sunfish occupied area. Hot hot mid day AZ, local urban lake( I call it a toilet bowl because it's so horribly managed and basically a pool that's allowed to go yuk with water pumps in the center to turbulate and raise the 02) claims of "monster bass" and actually a 12# record from one other lake. I've taken a 5 from another urban lake. So I'm walking the shore, don't own a less than 12' boat. Drop shot and swim jig I have caught two already and I'm watching the less than 3" blue gill sunfise occupy the pond scum and small cover close to the shore. They dart around n chase like as in an aquarium. I can see areas swept out like beds but no occupant. Working around the pipe going to the turbulator fountain I notice a nicer bass and stop to watch. It is just hanging out with the sunfish. If they're forage why aren't they hiding or running. Then I notice a even larger bass cruise in the area so there is now two. I'm thinking they are going to work to get some forage loose to eat. But it too just hangs out. Now I know my robo dropshot works so I cast it down the pipe about 12' away and just barely give it a movement and I see the line move away and it isn't me. it's one of the two I was watching that ran right out to smash it. So, the bass was willing to strike fairly actively but didn't act when there is bite size morsels right there. The only thing I can surmise is that they've not switched to the next food source level like Doug Hanna always said it takes for a bucket mouth to get into that large size. I think I'm going to purchase some larger worms and test that monster bass theory. The 3" robo was successful. I tried the 3" craw but no action. Switched to a larger craw with bigger profile and got two more. I'm also on the hunt for a cheap truck bed boat. Gonna see if I can't disprove the urban myth of have to be there at the butt crack to catch the active monster. I used to watch the bass corral shad too I'm wondering if the shad are a more rich resource like craw is over the bluegill or maybe the energy output to capture the bluegill sunfish isn't as worth it to the linebacker of the water.
Hey Matt. I really don't hear anybody talk about kneeling and reeling .. I use do good with the deep diving rattling fat rap .. Getting down on one knee and even sticking my rod under the water and bouncing it off the rocks for small mouth .. Does anyone do that anymore ??
Do you think fish really hold on to Berkley Power Baits longer than other plastics? I definitely get a lot of bites on Gulp but it gets trashed by tail biters and bluefish. I have some really good looking Power Bait jerk shad minnow type things but haven't played with them yet. I did catch freshwater trout with their trout bait in jars. Their stuff seems effective so I just wonder what you think about the claims on the packages.
If you want a severe darting action with your chatterbait, try the big blade with a Hog Farmer (or Missile Baits) spunk shad. That thing is super eratic!
Better smaller tackle makers usually sell flat line-tie chatter baits that are connected to the blade with a split ring. They hunt really well. Even better is making your own the same way. It depends how much you fish and how often you lose the factory ones. If you have a lot of snags in your lake, like i do in Southern California (mostly overkill strength line from unconcerned bank fisherman that use hand lines), and are afraid to use them in certain areas, i recommend making your own. You're missing out.
Those are all absolutely great baits! For me, a jerkbait has been absolute money. The other day I had several rods rigged with various cranks and jigs and all I used was my jerkbait setup - A Yozuri 3DB 110SP that you can get at Walmart for like 8 bucks. I had 4 quality fish in the boat in less than 15 minutes.
I like how Matt is specific and no nonsense. This channel is really one of the most informative with the authority to back it up.

All good baits. The root beer craw is a great color, especially when they're eating crawfish with a green tinge or perch.
Yep!

Glad you think so!
Swimjigs are my absolute favorite! It pays off all season.
awesome!
I think a jig can be a decent reaction bite. I prefer a squarebill and or a wobble head generally. You wouldn’t believe how much a wobblehead can do!
Awesome
I love the Elite chatterbaits they have wire tied skirts and pretty good hooks also

some baits are interchangeable but others are not. I like the subscription box idea...but have no idea how to go about setting that up.

These chatterbaits are half the cost of jackhammers. Nice!

Hey Matt, great video. which size stinger are you using on that chatterbait? The 3 1/2 or 4 1/4
Both!
So I feel like the chatter bait don’t hunt unless you burn it kinda fast is that the case for you. Most of the time I use a consistent speed and I impart the action with my rod.
chatterbaits need to have the action added for the most part, but using a straight tail trailer helps it get erratic action
Yes sir. Thanks

stick with what you are confident in
Can I ask you, what do you think is more important, the colour of the bait or the action, movement of the bait?
Greetings from the UK.
Movement
