I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

I have ziplock bags full of Hula Grubs from the 80’s when we used to buy them by the pound😂😂 I’m loving all the Core Tackle Products and glad to see Tim Little giving you a shout out on his Tactical Bassin video 👊🍀🎣🍀

Do you remember when you could buy that hula shirt by it self from Yamamoto. After reading Berkeley’s test on the crawdad, I would put the skirt on a football jig, then a single tail grub. I actually won a club tournament with it. It is a killer bait. We’re on the same track when it comes to finesse. Great show Thank you.

I always start with a Fat Ika with Gammy 4/0 straight shank hook skin hooked on the side...100% hook ups this way. Then a senko same hook in 3/0. If you master fishing these two you'll outfish most of your buddies on most days. Try it and you'll be a believer. Thanks Matt!

I hesitate to mention it, but Keitech makes a little hula grub called a spider jig that fits on a Ned rig- I think you were the person who recommended them to me though. Either way- they work exceptionally well. And I don't know if ppl consider the little cool baits underspin finesse but- I throw it on finesse gear- and it's a fish catching machine. And I'm starting to really enjoy the hover rig as well- it's not what I thought it would be. I tried strolling back when you had to buy the little 90-degree jig hook and use nail weight- I hated it. It was too finesse- I couldn't feel anything on my line- very hard to work the bait when it literally feels like nothing's there. I just couldn't develop a feel for it. But the Hover Rig is a different story- much easier to work, you can use it a hundred different ways- and they bite it. I'm still not good at making it hover in place, but you don't have to fish it that way.

The 4" Zoom Dead ringer is usually money for me when the fishing is tough . I typically throw this on a 3/16 owner Ultrahead . Also like to Neko rig a Yamamoto thin Senko , I usually use a small panhead screw as the weight because it stays in the plastic better and they are cheap . Lastly , I've done well recently fishing 4" stick worms on a hover rig.

I discovered the Yamamoto Hula grub a few years ago for river smallies. They catch fish. Now, I have used other brands and they do not catch fish as well (Gitzits are ok) in the full size ones. They have saved my day a few times! Now, to the person wanting to hover rig it, the Yamamoto tears easily so you'll go through a ton.

For a vertical presentation, Yamamoto Hula Grubs work great on a 1/8 oz Biffel Head. On 10 pound mono, it floats down so naturally, they have a hard time ignoring it. Gently twitch shake it back up and let it slowly fall back down.

Based on one of your earlier videos I decided to try a Ned rig with the Berkley MaxScent Lil’ General. The Smallmouth went crazy. It out fished everything else including leeches. Thanks for the tip. I also think the success was due to using your signature series hover rig rod from Mud Hole. It’s an amazing rod.

I went fishing yesterday & the fish were busting bait, they were focused only on them, I tried every small lure I could think of & I got one to commit on a weightless white worm, but I do believe that the hover rig would have helped me catch them. so I'm ordering some of them along with that chatterbait you suggested! Thanks Matt 👍🎣

Good stuff Matt! This year at my lake the drop shot has been a big disappointment. Last Summer ('22) it slayed them. I keep the DS tied on all year but, I have lost some of my confidence with it. Now the Finesse TRD in green pumpkin has done well and is a constant with me. It has to be my number one confidence bait and, my fish never seem to tire of it like they have the drop shot. Some days I just tell myself I'm going to leave the TRD on and just fish it. It never disappoints.
