    Hi Colin, some of these (show duplicate frames, show through edits) don't reduce processing power since Premiere already has that information calculated as part of normal editing. Those are just user display preferences. The real way to improve performance, as you noted, was use of proxies, half- or quarter- resolution playback, and turning off high-quality playback. Keep up the good work.

    • @VideoRevealed
      @VideoRevealed  4 года назад

      Actually, Premiere Pro must constantly poll the contents of the Timeline in case something has changed. And with a 2 hour movie, worked on for 6 months to 2 years, that's a huge amount of processing that can be saved. If the info was only read once, it would be out of date after the very next edit.
      Just so you know, I worked for Adobe for 17+ years as Application Specialist and this was routine for us to tell the big media customers.

    • @JimLeonard
      @JimLeonard 4 года назад

      @@VideoRevealed If PPro is constantly walking the edit list, then they need to hire better programmers; doubly-linked lists are programming 101. That's unnecessary (I'm a programmer who has written video codecs).
      Didn't know you used to be a premiere specialist; if it isn't in the bio/description of all your videos, it should be :-)

    Great Colin. But one doubt, I have never known what the option that appears at minute 6:22 on the Project Settings page is for. It is the one called Preview Cache and it always appears in None, although it says that it can increase performance. Do you know how to use it or how to activate it? Well, I've used Premiere for like 10 years and I've never known what it is for hehehe

    • @VideoRevealed
      @VideoRevealed  4 года назад

      Previews are only created when you render the Timeline. The important settings for preview renders are in the Sequence Settings. I never reader have the need to render.

    I have spent a fortune upgrading my PC - windows 10, 32GB ram, Ryzen 9, Nvidia Gti1070, SSD drives and Premiere still sucks, it's so.laggy in the playback.
    Now beginning to think it has problems with GoPro 8 codecs (1080 & 2.7k never used 4k)
    Any thoughts Colin ?

    • @VideoRevealed
      @VideoRevealed  4 года назад

      GoPro footage is very compressed so you're CPU is working overtime just to playback that footage. Also, anything over HD and you should be using Proxies.

      Just use resolve, premiere is extremely terrible with performance

    • @merlinvdb88
      @merlinvdb88 4 года назад +1

      gardansolyn Any H264 codec (gopro, dslr, drones) is heavily compressed and is very taxing to the cpu. GPU accleration would obviously help, but the situation for premiere pro is as follows. Currently premiere pro only fully supports gpu accelerated encoding (export) for h264/hevc. Decoding (playback) is currently only supported by Quicksync technology, which is available on core i5, i7 or i9 cpus from intel. Any Xeon, ryzen, threadripper etc. can not “extra” accelerate h264 at this point. But the good news: the next version of premiere (now on beta) will in fact support full gpu accelerated decoding on both AMD and NVIDIA cards. So the next release should improve your experience since you have a gtx 10 series card. You can actually download the beta version on creative cloud today and see it performs there. You should there turn on hardware acclerated decoding under the preferences (media tab). Hope it helps you out!
      Btw: actual smooth scrubbing and seeing all the frames on h264 media is a pipedream at the moment, even on Resolve, FCPx etc. If you want full scrubbing, transcoding is the way (prores, dnxhd,...).

    Hello Colin, I really like your videos, learning a lot from you
    I do not understand what you said about the green red yellow stripes, I would be happy if you explain again so I might be able to learn something new
    As far as I know the meanings to these stripes are related to the image processing (rendering)
    A yellow bar says that the computer's processor (CPU) processes the image in real time to display it on our monitor and the graphics accelerator help him to do so (GPU) so they both rendering the image
    A red bar says that an effect has been applied that is not supported by the graphics accelerator (look for the acceleration icon in the effects panel) so in the area where a red bar is marked in the timeline we see the software having difficulty playing the video, since the graphics accelerator (GPU) does not help the CPU (Depends on the computer and the project)
    A green bar says we have processed the image (we solved / processed the math in advance) so we will see the video run beautifully and without any effort
    I'm pretty sure you can tell me some new things for me (especially with regarding the story about Avid) I just could not understand you from the video
    Disclosure, my name is Sharon Cohen, Adobe certified instructor

    Hey Collin, quick question. I work a lot with dynamic link and have a lot of After effects files in premiere pro (which show up as sequences). I can't seem to make proxy files for them in premiere pro. Do I have to individually make a proxy file for each one inside after effects or is there some way to select all of them and create proxy files for them in Premiere like I can with normal files?

    • @VideoRevealed

    Excellent, can you help me with a premiere problem? When exporting a video of 2 hours, in h264 and 720p .. It renders only half, it says approximate weight 6gb and the final file only weighs 4gb .. all the start and end settings are ok, what can it be? So that I render it complete?

    •  4 года назад +2

      What kind of drive are you exporting to? If tour drive is formated to FAT32 there's a limit to the filesize that can be written to it.

    Is there anyone who can explain the delays I'm having when opening preferences or switching panels in Premiere? It takes 10+ seconds before the preferences window appears (even in a fresh project without any footage), but in After Effects it's fine.
