One thing a lot of people don't know that Samsung S-Pen doesn't need to charge in order for you to write on the screen. Charging pen is only for air motion and remote control function. And this pen doesn't use battery. It's using capacitor only to hold the charge

I kinda think people miss that fact, it can be completely dead and be fully charged in 30 seconds, a minute? Not really sure but It doesn't take long to charge a capacitor, and that 30 seconds to a minute will charge it for hours, because it doesn't use much power at all to use it.

I feel as if the review is missing some key selling points... Particularly some reasons what sold me on it.
#1 there's a few cases out there that solve the lap issue but they're third-party. Good news is that you can save $200-$300 for a case but bad news is that it will be third-party.
#2 Samsung makes a cover that makes it feel like you're writing on paper with the S Pen. Kinda like the remarkable tablet and I absolutely LOVE IT! I look forward to using it on the s9 ultra for notes.
#3 I agree with you on size for sure. I wish they would have an option for a smaller s9 ultra keeping the 16GB RAM and 1TB. For those who travel, I feel as if they would be happier with the smaller screen ultra than the big screen. For me personally, I'm happy with the larger screen since I can use my Venture one glasses and practically turn the s9 ultra into a massive TouchPad, utilizing Samsung Dex, AND significantly increase the battery life.
4# I will disagree that storage doesn't matter because of 1 small yet significant detail left out. The amount of Ram sold with each storage configuration. I personally couldn't care less about storage as long as I can use a 1TB SD card. School, work, and gaming is that reason I'm sold on the s9 ultra due to the 16gb of Ram and the 1TB storage is icing on the cake. Although the RAM is covered later in the video, I feel as if this is the nail to seal the coffin on selling point and wasn't clarified.
Overall, not a bad review. The whole Apple VS Android competition can be broken down into 2 categories:
Option 1: Minimal workloads, simplicity, closed ecosystem, closed source/company-controlled
      vs
Option 2: heavy/intense workloads, user freedom, open source/community-controlled, open ecosystem.
If you chose option 1, Apple products are probably best for you. Option 2, Android products are probably best for you, especially if you like customizing your device like installing Kali Nethunter for Pentesting.

I'm also an Apple user that just got an s9 Ultra. I come from an iPad Pro 12,9 and I use the device mainly for consuming media. That's why I opted for the Ultra. It has a glorious big AMOLED screen and a nice 16:10 aspect ration that suits media a lot better. If you're simply consuming a lot of movies and shows, the Ultra is definitely the better tablet than an iPad Pro! I'm excited though for this years Pro release with the AMOLED display and knowing Apple, it will most definitely be an amazing and very accurate screen. But then again I'd rather have 16:10 than 4:3!

One thing to remember is that Samsung handles retail and pricing VERY differently than Apple. Launch discounts and trade-in offers are REALLY SIGNIFICANT. Retailer discounts are also much more frequent. For reference, my Tab S9 Ultra, maxed out to 16GB ram and 1TB storage (not counting the micro SD card slot) cost me 309Eur, plus turning in my S8U 12Gb/512Gb and a smaller tab S7 I had lying around. Great video! Despite living the apple lifestyle with Macbook Pro, iPhone, Apple Watch, etc I've ditched my iPad Pro last year to get an S8 Ultra (now S9 Ultra with the generous trade in). Honestly for this type of device which is predominantly media consumption, browsing, email, comic book reader, and streaming games from my computer I've adored the flexibiliy of this device compared to the iPad lineup. Between the big beautiful OLED screen, super thin chasis, and tiny bezels it feels like what Apple's iPad will look like 2 years from now.
If you want a cover that has better lapability I highly recommend the slim book cover. It doesn't have the trackpad but much lighter case with a rigid bottom. I either use a bluetooth mouse on the desk or use my finger / s-pen to interact with screen. The angle of the tablet is so close to the keyboard that it makes reaching up to the screen very easy.

I was honestly planning on returning the S9 until I received it and compared the 2 devices in person. For me the screen was actually substantilly better (much better visibility outdoors, no wierd anti-glare color, and better darks / highlights when watching movies), device finish less prone to finger prints, better speakers, faster CPU/GPU, IP68 resistant (yes I'm one of those who watches movies on a stand while taking baths), more storage, free keyboard cover incentive, fresher battery, etc. All in all it was worth the ~$400 upgrade for my 1.5 year old device.@@beyondthedetails

As far as Photoshop/Photo Editing goes, one of the GREATEST features of my Tab S8 Ultra that no one talks about is the 'Second Screen' feature. SuperDisplay a $10 app works really great. The Tab S8 Ultra has basically replaced my Wacom Cintiq as my main Photoshop editing device. It's higher resolution, wireless, lighter, portable, and the S-Pen might be even better... Samsung's built-in 'Second Screen' works OK, but it used to work much better than it does now, I don't know what happened, but hopefully they will update it to work as good as SuperDisplay does. Plus, your files stay resident on your workstation and you don't have to copy files back and forth.
I find that SuperDisplay works exactly the same wired or over WiFi. If there's a difference, I don't see any. As you mentioned, it's SO much better than Samsung's Second Screen. It's pretty crazy to me that Samsung definitely knows how much of a superior product SuperDisplay is and they could easily license the technology (like they do Wacom's EMR) or even purchase the company without even batting an eye, instead they ship a vastly inferior piece of software...
Plus, the device is awesome all on its own... Literally blown away by how great it is!
The S-Pen is fantastic and FREE in the box. You don't need to add a paper-like screen protector ($40) in addition to the $130 you'll pay extra for the Apple Pencil...
I'm a 30+ year Professional Graphic Artist. When some say that there aren't Professional Visual Arts apps on android it's just really incorrect, because I use them everyday. Autodesk Sketchbook, Infinite Painter, Concepts, Krita are just a few of the apps available on the Google Play store... There are many more... Are there a few apps available on iPad that aren't on the Play store? Yes, of course, but a good carpenter never blames his tools, and with expertise and talent you can do anything and everything on android apps that you can do on iOS apps - NO DOUBT.
If you're already entrenched in the Apple 'eco-system'... Then pay the extra $500 to $1500...
    Unfortunately, Samsung's trade-in's aren't great this year...
Two years ago I got the 8GB RAM/256GB SSD Tab S7 Plus in Mystic Navy it was $356 from Samsung with a Tab S4 Trade-In I got off ebay for $175, they gave me $400 trade-in credit, so my total cost from Samsung for the Tab S7 Plus was $531.
I had zero intention of upgrading. Samsung then offered me more than I paid for the S7+ in trade, for a 16GB/512GB Ultra. They also gave me $200 credit towards accesories. It was kinda of a no-brainer, plus the 4-year OS updates and 5-years of security updates for $517.59.
I absolutely love the Ultra, and have no intention of upgrading, especially since Samsung will only give me $650 for the trade-in of my Ultra and the total cost will be $750 for the 16GB/1TB version...
    Maybe next time, Sammy...

  • @Stefan.Zimmermann

There are still so many things that iPad users simply don't know.
For example, creating different user profiles. Here in the family, there are several Ultra tablets spread around the house and no matter which one is lying around, you log in with your user profile and you have everything. The installation is completely independent between the profiles. We also have different profiles for private and business use. I always find it unprofessional when I see Apple users who have private devices on their tablet and use them to give presentations to customers.
Or with the Good Look app from Samsung you can reconfigure almost everything, your own keyboard design, your own smilies, taskbar, icons, multitasking behaviour, satellites, system sound, your own vibration patterns, your own system menu, endless possibilities,
In comparison, the iPad is a golden cage and as a creative person I feel trapped in it. I can hardly change anything about the iPad OS. It's not a device for creative people, even though people always say it is. As a creative person, you love freedom and not paternalism like Apple.
Samsung Dex is the next gamechanger. ipads used to be good, but they didn't realise that they were long outdated.

It's an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It's literally an enhanced version of the best mobile chip money can buy outside of Apple Silicon.
It probably still lags behind the Ipad, but at this point the Ipad chip is complete overkill unless you edit multiple 4K videos. I wouldn't worry about performance with this one.

For me Dex is a real game changer and one the main reasons why I, as an unbiased user, got the Tab S9 over the iPad Pro, the other main reason being how great old consoles emulation is on this tablet. I'm a big fan of what Samsung is doing these days, I gotta admit. I feel like they've finally got their own identity with One UI, they do their own things the way they want to (completely different route than Google), and it's a pretty pleasant user experience overall!
The S-Pen experience is also pretty awesome. Samsung has been working on and expanding the S-Pen features and capabilities for years now, thanks to its "Galaxy Note" phones, and it shows. That's something they're really good at

I feel like you compared the face unlock options on the S9 Ultra and IPad in a way that made it sound like the S9's was just an inferior version; "doesn't work in the dark". But they're working on entirely different technology. Apple's face ID uses dot projection and an infared camera, which is why it works in the dark, because it's their primary and biometric security option, but because Samsung's primary biometric option is their unltrasonic fingerprint sensor (which is awseome tech in it's own right aswell -- works even when your finger is wet), they only use the regular cameras for face unlock as a convenience factor... which isn't as secure yes, but isn't meant to be, and is why it needs light to see your face.
Just thought some people that aren't into tech enough to know this -- who might be looking into these two tabs as options -- might find that interesting

I am a trader of the financial markets. For 2 decades, I carried a laptop on trips, but in late 2021, I broke down and bought a cheap Samsung Galaxy Tab A7. I enjoyed that so much while traveling that I have stopped traveling with a laptop. I also used the A7 around home when away from my trading workstation (destop with 4 huge screens). I soon discovered that I liked the bigger screen so much that I used my phone a lot less. I was looking for an upgrade this year as the A7 has many limitations, so I bought a Samsung Galaxy S9 Ultra. This is a massive upgrade, and I will probably never travel with a laptop again! I cannot only use my trading software, but also Microsoft Office as well. Not to mention games, RUclips TV, movies, videos and tons of other apps. This is a great device though I cannot comment on the Ipad Pro since I only use Android.

I just sold my Ipad pro for this tablet and I couldn't be more pleased with the switch. The tablet if for nothing else is just a joy to marvel at. I do have an s23 ultra, and have been with Samsung for a few years. I've just fallen in love with the flexibility of the Android ecosystem (especially with Dex). My Ipad pro was nice, and potentially could have been a lot nicer if I were using it for video editing and whatnot, but I simply used it for multimedia and communicating with other apple users. The freedom of using devices outside a restrictive ecosystem is immensely gratifying. I appreciate not being dictated by the device manufacturer regarding software choices. Android offers a comprehensive app selection, often at lower prices due to the absence of Apple's fees. Additionally, Samsung's commitment to water and dust resistance is beneficial, allowing usage in various environments, embodying true portability. Moreover, the media quality on these devices surpasses that of Apple. One thing both companies could have learned is the value of having a compartment in the device itself to hold a stylus if a stylus is going to be a key feature in the use of the device. I remember my Apple Newton had a nice little enclosure for the stylus so that it wouldn't lose it.

Beautiful display. Apple has crippled the ipad software for so long, that at this point i feel they have already lost, especially when taking into account the discounts for samsung, that it includes the s pen, and the better display. I will most likely stay with the iphone. As a software developer i work with both pcs and macs; my tablet is both a research tool and enjoyment, and the samsung is perfect.
