Thanks for uploading this. I made two little bags yesterday and they turned out perfectly and I'm not a confident sewer. Going to make lots for gift bags. My local thrift shop has lots of zippers still packaged which I'll use. 😁❤️🇦🇺
Maddy is stunning here. And still is.
steeleye span maddy priors super singer the best sean from castleford one of my best folk bands
There is something so distinctive about Prior's voice--I just have never heard anything like it: powerful and shrill in the best way. Listening to some Span albums, I had never imagined her smiling so much while she was singing! Also, I love the outfits.
did not like it at first. i also like her album of hymns sing loudly and with great cheer. this was a great line up and songs too, saw them live and loud. in glasgow in the late 1960s
She constantly smiles when she sings. You can watch these videos and tell that Maddy Prior is having the time of her life up on the stage.
Traditional music combined with electric instruments - Steeleye Span had that magic touch!
Just bought their 4th album Below The Salt - fantastic album!!!! Love her voice !
The best of the Steeleye lineup here:
Hart, Prior, Carthy, Knight and Hutchings!
I’ve been a fan since 1972, but alas never attended a live performance.
Thank you for posting.
I was lucky, I was there , hope life has been good god bless
Though I cannot dance, I would dance with Maddy any time.
you and Ralph McTell
My first visit to a live performance. Children's fare on the train to Ainsdale.
I was there with my girl friend, Janet. Great concert and one of the best eras in music all around. Managed Crown Records in Crosby at the time.
Brilliant ! I envy you.
Oh you mean singing live, no remix, and actual talent. Just wonderful
Maddy! you...are...awesome!
Maddy has an a-ma-zing voice!
fantastic time to be alive, to be able to see and hear span from this time, each member is brilliant in their own right and went on to do great things, Ashley...morris on, Martin married Norma Waterson, the rest stayed in the band for many years and have brought me much joy.RIP Tim, love to you all and sirpatrickspens for posting this, cheers.
wow. I wish I could have been there
We walked here along the beach from Formby. There was huge game of football going on when we arrived. I think Martin Carthy was in goal. They turned the power off after the broadcast finished. We wanted it to go on all night.
Greeeeat! Loved to see Maddy dancing in the end!
Lovely Maddy. Can't believe this is fifty years ago.
Excellent. What a treat. Thank you for sharing this.
Maddy was definately a folk Babe, great voice too
What do mean WAS!?!?
@@rolandcolyer5199 Sorry, she still is and one of my crushes,I was there with my older brother and older sister, and parents,I was only 7 years old but she mesmorized me,I got told off about talking about her,in the car back to Stretford.
Wow, Maddy Prior. I have a feeling anyone who was there became a fan for life!
This is a truly precious piece of video history. Thanks for posting it!
love this [beautiful maddy singing dancing , wonderful clip
Holy Crap this is awesome! Steeleye Rules!:)
Good that this is preserved. In many ways a pivotal time. All the different material and styles that had grown up on the folk club circuits over the previous 10 or more years somehow came together and got repackaged and reinvented in a form that could go out to a wider audience and indeed echo on down the years. Hard to believe Carthy was ever *that* young, even though I'd seen him in the clubs several years earlier.
I love stumbling upon these great posts! Many thanks1
steeleye span are fantastic sean from castleford yorkshire
Terrific! Thanks.
Yep.... I remember this very well. Lovely!
Lucky YOUZE, Tony!
Just perfect, what can one say more?
this might be my favourite video on youtube. my fave song of steeleye span performed during they heydays. fantastic indeed!
This is great-always wanted to hear this live - for me it sums up the "Steeleye" sound.Seeing em next Thursday in St Albans anyway.
too bad there isn't more of this with better sound!!! This was one hell of a band with THE best vocal combination in recorded British music IMPO. Tim Hart, Martin Carthy and Maddy Prior!
Fantastic set, Maddy has surely the finest female voice in the folk rock world. Saw Steeleye last Wednesday at Sevenoaks, still an excellent band. Knight's fiddle powers along their songs and he is sorely missed, but his replacement's replacement is quite a find.
Maddie I saw you at the Cadogan in December 2019 and your voice was as beautiful as ever.
@atfatw Boy, is your sense of reality messed up or what? Just listen to Steeleye Span and enjoy them. Who cares how their singer looks, she's still amazing.
Wow! Thank you. Priceless.
Thanks a lot for this early and rare video.
they opened for jethro tull in '71 or 2 in denver and i remember they passed out a book of matches with their name on the cover to everyone.
Wow, what a great clip. I have LOVED Steeleye for over 30 years, and always wondered what it must have been like to see them in their prime. Sure wish they would tour California. Thanks for posting this! And yes, the Tele and Fender stacks are fun to see, as well as the coiled bass cable. It's a time capsule.
bloomin heck! martin carthy's guitar tone is mega. fender tele and fender stack! great guitar and great band!
Wow. Real music.
Exciting guitar riff !
Superb! What a find!
Spiral guitar leads. They were the future!
wow, thanks so much for this amazing footage (all of it)
Goddess but Maddy looks so young there!
amazing music!!!
still a brilliant band through time. all the best from George Peace
Best formation.
Lovely Maddy,,,xxxx
@my3snappy I couldn't agree more, what a tiptoe through the past with tulips to soften your feet...
Strange world. Yesterday had a pick-nick on Ainsdale beach and today find this.
Look at Maddy. Steeleye were brilliant.
If only this line-up could have continued on; Carthy and Hutchings were already Stars on the scene and Peter Knight was just establishing himself as a great fiddler. Maddy was almost there, but she never looked lovelier! What could they have done on a next album?
Je älter, desto schöner!
maddys dress is boss, wish i was there but far to young.
I can't imagine why this one got posted. Much as I love Maddy and have great respect for the other members of Steeleye Span , I feel that fuzzy ancient videos will have appeal to a contemporary audience. This is tantamount to relegating the band to history!
What a bizarre comment. What issue do you have with a this and other “historical” videos appealing to a contemporary audience. Surely that’s a good thing in that based on watching this, the same audience may go and see the band as they are now and buy their releases or merchandise?
Nobody can put that haughty edge on tied whole notes like Maddy!
This, Steeeleye lineup #2 and lineup # 4 the best, both with Martin Carthy.
Cool stuff :)
Mighty Maddy .....
Are there any fie-hard Martin Carthy-ophiles who happen to know what became of the blue telecaster used here? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
He said in an interview that he left it with the band as they were broke 😂
@@insulartomb thanks bud!
Anybody else notice that the drummer's missing...?
@atfatw Would you rather Maddy be big with the beautiful voice she still has, or rather her be skinny and unable to sing?
And just leave the English alone, man. They gave us some of the best music of all time!
!!!!!!!
Thank you. "May a' guid thing attend ye".
Maddy is all woman and a bit barking mad.
Like I said..... All woman.
gold is right..,.i'm pleasantly appalled
Shame about the bad acoustics. Can hardly hear it.
Should have heard how good this was at the time, but was deafened by Led Zep.
Heard both and love both - the secret is not to play both at the same time!
@@colinardron198 I now have a list of seven items titled "Led Zeppelin Without Electric Guitar". My comment was hasty, but still, I knew of but didn't pick up on the "Folk-Rock" thing.
The violin is too loud.
I'll get them to turn it down. Just give me a minute to start up my time machine ;)
Delightful! Thanks.
