Trent truly is one of the greatest and purest artist of our time. He makes what he wants with no censors or middlemen to fuck with him. I see him being a major contributor to future sounds and he definitely is an influence to the sounds of today. Praise Trent and his power to makes us all closer to God.
"Contrast" is the word I think you mean, "contradiction" carries a negative connotation. But I totally agree. I'm also a fan of Dave Matthews, been with Trent and Dave from right when they started to hit in the early '90s. ANYWAY, at one point, Dave brought on back up singers for a tour and live album (titled: Listener Supported). At first I was like, WTF? But I set aside bias and let it sink in and wow, just like these lovely ladies, they really add a killer new dimension. Hard to imagine since Trent's music is always layered with so much texture. Cheers!!
Apparently, I was the FIRST person to ever tell Trent he was the greatest singer/songwriter of the 20th Century... I met him backstage in 1994 at one of his secret shows that doubled as the "warm-up" leg to the Self Destruct Tour. He said "Wow, no one's ever said that to me that before. Thank you." He was really cool and down to earth. So I said "Really?? What do they usually say?" He took a deep breath... "Hi, I love your hair. How much money do you have? Can I suck your dick?" True story. I wonder today if he still remembers that cuz he was sober as a nun...
RW175 I’m a full time musician. I write my own songs. I even have a classic rock and roll past of drugs, politics and hate. I play three instruments to a very high standard...especially drums in which I play left handed (open handed) and am a master of the half time shuffle and have invented two drum rudiments...double kick pedal speed using one foot and that half time Purdie/Porcaro/Bonham shuffle groove with said open hi hat played with the hi hat pedal. No one does this. It’s super difficult to learn. And when you have no one to learn something new from it’s also a place where there are no places to turn to for help. BUT I CAN’T UNDERSTAND HOW SOME PEOPLE WRITE BRILLIANT SONGS LIKE OTHERS EAT BREAKFAST. Is it nature or nurture? Is there a God? It comes down to that in the end. And the answer, in my silly little world is “There must be for this type of genius to be unlearnable”. Or maybe I’m very stoned and this is jus mental?
I'm 18, born in 2004, and have been graced with my mom's old Walkman and Discman. I've been obsessed with "Closer" and seeing her old NIN album had me hype to hear more of their stuff. Hesitation Marks is not available to me on Spotify, and I am SO grateful I can listen to this album, to "All Time Low" when I'm out through sheer before-spotify will. This song is so incredible, I'm simply in love, and the artistry that is NIN is absolutely worshipped in me.
cavemancolton the entire Hesitation Marks album does tbh. it seems like less of a studio album and more of a "collection of great ass live songs, but in the studio"
+nofleshspared Aaron North's Big Come Down from the With Teeth tour is the gnarliest thing ever. It's too bad he's having so many issues now and doesn't play music anymore because he was a truly original guitar player.
That’s five songs blended into one masterpiece then augmented with warmth coupled layered voices that just guide you to the conclusion your inside aural genius.
Wish I had enough spare time to have caught a piece of this particular tour. There's no real substitute for actually being there, but these videos are pretty well done.
All the kids in families who watch “Pixar’s Soul” won’t even know who made the soundtrack. I’ve heard of Bird Box and Social Network, but didn’t realize he and Atticus made the scores. He isn’t as known to many younger people like me now days, but his influence bleeds into music and pop culture.
i bet Trent said :"hey let's make a deep funk - dark -fundamental basic groove .....Yeah let's get Pino Palladino on bass and do an epic one" !!!!!....fucking legend!!!!fucking great great great track!!!
God damned right! He brings the funk in a way that absolutely takes NIN to a new level. While Trent is 95% of the group, the session and touring musicians he chooses are every bit as important. That baseline is fucking incredible.
NvikIngsN that's fine with me. Closer has been ruined in live performances ever since with teeth era. I hate the way they play it now just playing half tge song then mixing in the only time which replaces the most awesome part of closer, the whole rest of the song after the final chorus with all the synth leads and keys. They completely take that part out. I love closer and the only time but id rather have them play each song separately in their entirety. Mixing them together just takes out the best parts of each song which is a waste of a couple minutes that could have been used for any other one of their songs.
One of the best shows out there on RUclips. Always a great piece to come back to when you just want to chill and enjoy something out of the ordinary. Absolutely love this show.
Welcome to NIN Where the live performances are just as badass as the studio versions... no, we actually mean it this time. It's LITERALLY just as badass
I saw NIN and Janes Addiction a few years back and if you have never seen NIN live (or JA for that matter) you really need to make it a goal in your life.

this is by far one of the sexiest songs I have ever heard. What would I ever do without Mr. Reznor!
Those back up singers are everything :)
Yeah, it's definitely better than the studio version, IMO. Great performance by everyone.
The curly-haired one is Lisa Fischer - she's a legend! Look her up.
Mikenactor back up singers sound and look like the back up singers from pinks latest album
How Can I Ease The Pain is still my jam :)
OMG MIKE. ❤❤
Trent fucking Reznor for President!

NIN is way better live than anything recorded in a studio.
After all these years, this is as good as anything he has ever done. A true genius.
This is still the best concert I've ever been too. Before or since.
This is better than the album version.

1:53 that guitar part, haunt me in the most beautiful way.
Sharlotte Gibson and Lisa Fischer are absolute gems.
Most creative musician of our time:Mr.Trent Reznor.
I like this live arrangement of the song...it's got power and a hint of menace...and a groove too.
No words about Brilliant lighting? Common friends...
These live versions are phenomenal!
Wish I had enough spare time to have caught a piece of this particular tour. There's no real substitute for actually being there, but these videos are pretty well done.
One of the best songs of the Album IMO
One of his best songs period IMO
I thought he did a good job on this song . Love how he incorporated "Closer" in with it and I love the background singers.
Probably almost everyone in the world has heard something Trent Reznor has composed and not realised it....He is everywhere :D
He's the Stephen King of Rock

"trent is the greatest musician of my generation" - dave grohl
They are both Dave and Trent, the greatest two loves of my life.
This show was amazing. Trent ' s choice of band line up was spot on. Pino Palladium is funkadelic.
That would be Pino Palladino ;) and yes, he is damn good!
Hesitation Marks made for a great Live show, Wish I could've seen them
FINK .... Plays some of the most BAD ASS ... little riffs on this one! AMAZING!
He should be official member
Seeing this show in Edmonton was amazing. The way Trent was moving to this song... just too sexy.
Damn those backing vocals are amazing
Yep. That's Lisa Fischer from the rolling Stones.
I went to his most recent concert in Kansas City...best show I've ever been to. NIN still rocks hard!
A NIN masterpiece. Trent loved this
One of my favorite tracks. This is amazing.

Well, it is sung from the perspective of someone who's "been down this road before". Though nowadays, he's more experienced with handling his issues.
He is fascinating!!! I so wish I could climb in his head. He is fabulous!! Yum!
when he moved his shoulders like that i audibly said "YEEEESSS" 3:21
Not often that something is so much better live but this is a billion times better than the album version imo

Easily the best version of this track. Fuckin' incredible.
Go
I've heard all I need to know
Your voice in fucking echo stereo
This particular scenario
Looks like another all time low
Why did you go and let them in
See this is where the fun begins
You barely even pierced the skin
Just wait 'til you see what has come in
Get down on the floor
Shut the god damn door
We'll do this all before
They're coming back for more
So give me just a little, baby
Just something to get by
It's gonna last forever, baby
We'll get the other side
And we will live forever, baby
And stretch across the sky
I'll follow right behind you, baby
We're never gonna die
Hey
Everything is not okay
We lost too much along the way
The passengers are out today
It looks as though they're here to stay
This paranoia turns to fear
This too is whispering in your ear
Pretending but I know you hear
That's how we fucking end up here
So give me just a little, baby
Just something to get by
It's gonna last forever, baby
We'll get the other side
And we will live forever, baby
And stretch across the sky
I'll follow right behind you, baby
We're never gonna die
We're never gonna die
How did we get so high
Stretch across the sky
Stretch across the sky
Stretch across the sky
Stretch across the sky
Stretch across the sky
Stretch across the sky
Stretch across the sky
Stretch across the sky
Remember to stretch across the sky everyone!
Already doing that now. I did it when this album came out too. Forever trailing across the sky.
Tried that, got a crick in my back :(
