This is a very unique and extraordinary kata. me and my friends at work are practising kihon kata at the moment, and in november we are going to be graded for an orange belt. it's going to be a tough couple of weeks but with a little luck, i think we can do it.
Both katas is Shotokan. Dont know why anyone would write that. I am Shotokan and it pretty much the same. There are little differences if JKA, SKIF, ISSKA etc but Kanku Dai is Kanku Dai. Even Tang Soo Do has a Kanku Dai but in Korean terms.
oshima is just perfect now rika is retired, hope to see oshima at the next world championships she is shotokan world champion but deserve to be wkf world champion
In other words, he is not Japanese. I have met and trained under everyone you mention except Yahara sensei, and they are all excellent but I have not seen any of them do a better Kanku; different, but not better; this is a very good karate man. The shuto uke is exactly the form Kawasoe sensei uses and I consider his form to be the best of the third generation JKA instructors. BTW, I consider Ohshima Nozomi's version to be the better of the two (her Gankaku is as good as I have ever seen.)
I also like the girl's kata better because it's more honest. Valdessi's kata is more flashy (more vain). She also does the shuto-uke more correctly, having the lead hand straight in front before pulling it back. At any rate, after seeing and participating in many tournaments in America and in Asia, I think kata shouldn't be in a competition because it is too subjective to the biases of different judges and the ever evolving tournament trends. Kumite, however, can always be a good sport.
Valdessi (the guy) slaps his gi with the pulling hand from the outside for "sound effect" when he performs his shuto-uke. There's a legitimate self-defense (bunkai) reason why the pulling hand should start in the the front when performing that block, and not be used to slap your gi from the outside. The preparing (pulling) hand could be used as a preparatory block or strike, that's why it has to be pointing forward. This is why I don't like Valdessi's shuto-uke either.
The simple answer is no, but that doesn't mean I can't comment on it. Does it? In general, people are easily impressed by artistic\flashy WKF tournament kata. I was simply stating that if you want to see how it should be done, to look at Osaka Sensei's version. You could also check out others, such as, Kanazawa, Asai, Kagawa or Yahara Sensei to name a few. When they strike, or block, they do it with intent and purpose. You DO NOT see that with Valdesi or anyone else of the WKF ilk...period.
The girl was much better, her moves were more crisp and she didn't put too much hip movement into it. The tempo for both are too fast. I like the tempo of a Kanazawa more, it gives you more time to savor the kata.
A girl is sliding thrue the kata, I haven't seen solid stance when she was doing it, and he faked half moves in order to be faster... So, nothing special if you ask me, but everyone has it's opinion ;)
You can clearly see it'snot shotokan there is a real lack of power in the legswhich is the first thing you learn in Shotokan the kata goes way faster then what it is supposed to be..and there is almost not muscular tension ...A kata is like fighting agaisnt an opponent who's not here so you have to put some impact at some point..the moves are not just for the picture> Im not saying the guy didn't do a good kata just not Shotokan karateka for sure
Oshima is only JKA world champion, not shotokan. Too many splits to generalise shotokan. And WKF currently favours shito kata, shotokan kata too hard and rigid and will be majorly disadvantaged in individual performances - but has a certain advantage in team kata. I do not believe Oshima has the finesse that previous WKF world champions do (womens).
A execução de um kata como esse de forma vigorosa é muito bonita!
Muito bom, é o meu kata favorito muito bem executado, parabens!
AWESOME SIDE KICKS WITH AWESOME POWER!!!!

a player is a competitor in sports karate. They compete or play, they don't fight.
miss, ton pied n'est pas encore au top!
Travaille ça!!

Sorry, over on Quora you only proved the cowardice of blocking. That's for those who CAN'T answer.
What the hell is a player in karate dude...just saying
