CRAZY 'BICA DA CANA' PINNACLE ROCK CLIMB ON MADEIRA ISLAND

- The Bica da Cana Pinaculo hike is one of the less popular trails on Madeira Island but it offers some incredible views. After enjoying the Bica da Cana viewpoint with scenes of the cloud-filled valley below and views out to Pico Ruivo and Pico do Arieiro, you can then head off on the 4.7km loop trail. The hike takes you to the base of the Pinnacle, a striking rock formation that most people admire from the ground but I decided to free-climb the pinnacle to the top. This is the vlog from my climb of the pinnacle on the Bica da Cana hike on Madeira Island, Portugal.
My hiking guide: I did this hike with a local guide (also a great friend) called João. He’s lived in Madeira his whole life and knows all of the unique trails (not just the popular ones). This trail requires some local knowledge for the directions so I recommend a guide. Want to contact João to be your guide for this hike or any of the hikes I’ve done on Madeira? You can contact him on Instagram here: / joao_lets_hike or by email: joaoletshike@gmail.com

As someone who has been living on the island all his life I gotta say it is truly beautiful and the shots you got are awesome but I will advice anyone who come here not to follow his steps and go out of trails, during summer not a week goes by without someone falling and dying on those trails, just a week ago a 15 year old girl fell to her death, plus you can still get some pretty amazing shots without going through the spiky bushes.
Also I love the motto of 1 adventure 1 bag at 8:35 but what you guys picked up isn't trash, its a bio-degradable mesh used all around the island when re-foresting and planting new trees, not only fences off some insects that could jeopardize its growth but also fertilizes the dirt around with the help of the rain, if you pay attention at 8:40 there are lots of small trees growing and you guys cleaned up the entire field!. Appreciate the thought of wanting to pick up the trash but you just undid some of the work from people looking out for nature.... didn't you find it strange that all of the "trash" you found around was that mesh with that same color, same size and shape? Please people do not pick them up, those are there to help trees grow!
We picked up an entire bag of trash including the discarded mesh. We didn't rip it off trees.. obviously. It was loose mesh just beside the trail and we had plastic bottles and other trash from hikers on the trail. I don't show every single piece of trash I put in my bag but I've collected many, many bags of trash now on Madeira and you can head over to @adventurebagcrew to see. It's a clean place but far from perfect. Also, I'm not asking anyone to follow my steps. I simply explore in a way that feels safe to me in the same way adventure athletes, alpinists vibe in their own way. You've made a couple of assumptions here without asking any questions. I'm always happy to provide answers but don't appreciate people assuming the worst or that I would be ripping down small trees. Think it through please.
@@JacksonGroves MrSuperselenio makes a good point regarding going off trail. Your video is bloody awesome, and it glorifies your activities, yet it lacks even the slightest disclaimer. It's irresponsible to glorify risky activities in such a manner. Can you really say with confidence that some viewers would not realise the risks in wanting to replicate your experience for themselves? And if your video went viral? You have little control once you post it, so best to act responsibly, for everyone. Or maybe one day those trails you enjoyed will be closed for everyone. Other than that, thanks for a great post!!
@@aracrg Cheers. It's up to people to know their limits. I watched the movie Free Solo but I didn't go out the next day and try and climb a rock wall cause I know I suck at climbing... even though Alex Honnold glorified his climb. It's just basic common sense but in 2020 we feel like we have to explain every move and hold people's hands through life. It;s about knowing your limits but knowing when the push them. Nothing more, nothing less.
I agree with Jackson. I did this hike yesterday and I didn’t even think of doing the extremes he did ate the Noca da Cana and Pináculo
Welcome! Amazing shots :) Obrigada for sharing Madeira with the world

All great and beautiful but despite “all under control ;)” you shouldnt go off trail. With plenty of awesome trails in madeira, some already for advanced hikers why not just chose a route?
Sometimes the best views take a little bit of exploration. The pinnacle used to be a climbing route, I saw the cut ropes with my own eyes. Just having some fun on the mountains :)
Jackson Groves being from Madeira myself i can assure you you dont need going off trails to get the best views. If it used to be a climbing route i suppose it was closed for a reason. Im all up for having fun on the mountains, definitely go for it, but there are better ways. Sorry, but unfortunately i know this can end up pretty badly and gives me the chills to think this may serve as an example for other people to follow. Some may not have it all under control. Definitely awesome video with beautiful views and top edition, but...
That’s deep shit bro
Seems like the "trash" you picked up are mostly green plastic nets used to protect new plantations of trees from the rabbits and other roedents. Usually there's a pair of iron bars structuring the nets to the ground.
Actually those served an honorable purpose. Not exactly trash.
But thanks anyway for the initiative.
I guess you saw all the trash in the bag? Always happens when I pick up trash. It seems inevitably people only like to make negative comments and I can only assume it stems from them not doing it themselves. We picked up lots of loose 'green plastic nets' that had finished their use and blown onto the track and also plastic bottles, candy wrappers and other. Please head to @adventurebagcrew to see what I do. Use some common sense. I didn't go around dismantling tree protectors obviously. Hope you have a great day just had to clear that up for you.
