    I use monsters from these books ALL THE TIME! I think the best thing about them is the CR rating given to each creature is much more accurate to regular D&D play. Normally a CR 9 creature from the Monster Manual can be manhandled by a party of 4 level 5s with ease. But a CR 9 creature from these books actually lives up to its CR.
    Solid video!

      That is really great to know. I'll keep that in mind when using these creatures in my 5E game since at first I assumed the CR's were just as weak as the Monster Manual.

      @@DravenSwiftbow I highly recommend it! Of course there are outliers, but overall I think they do a better job at gauging CR.
      Also, most players have never seen these creatures so it prevents major meta gaming!

    The ale house drake is one of my favorites. What a great way for the characters to learn all the gossip than from an ale swigging serpent

    It's called old age my man, have been working on 4-5 hours a night for the last 20 years. But for my part, think you did a great job. Been eyeballing these for a while, and think I'll pull the trigger. Hail and thanks for the review.🤘

    I've used the Creature Codex a bit, I had a manastorm golem be the final form of an ancient Mithril Golem that guarded an ancient Elven city that burst out of the armor when it was destroyed and would fly into the ancient power generators and overload them. And on a more funny route the Main antagonist for my long running campaign, a hag who evolved from a green to a night hag with goals of greater power once threw an exploding toad at the party like a grenade.

    Great job as usual, Dave! Reminds me I need these. Big fan of pocket editions for 5E. Wish WotC would follow suit.

    I have both books as well. It's always nice to have more new imaginative monsters. I can recommed the Midgard Worldbook to anyone interested in new campaign settings. It has rules for both 5e and Pathfinder 1e. I wish Kobold Press and WotC would release more of their harcover products in pocket form as well.

    I actually picked up the tome of beast pocket edition the other day because I had never seen it before. Now I need to pick up the creature codex!

    The albino death weasel?!?! Some of the names sound like finishing moves for wrestlers! Lots of cool stuff though.

    I found the font size of the Pathfinder pocket editions way too small for my old eyes. How do these books compare in terms of legibility?

    I believe "Empire of the Ghouls", an adventure published by Kobold Press, involves going up against the Ghoul Emperor! (or at least, he features)

    Nice review, thanks. Don't have anything worth saying about them, so be well and stay safe!

    I picked up both hard backs.
    Love them both and The Tomb of Beast 2 is just as good.

    My main worry is that the type would be too small in these - is that something you've encountered at all?

      I can't speak for these specific books, since I haven't used them in game, but I will say that I use the Pathfinder 2E Core Rulebook Pocket Edition and haven't had any issues with the print size.
      I was worried at first about that but the more I used it, the more I adjusted.
      That said I wouldn't recommend them if you have trouble with small print and get eye strain from it. If you don't have issues with smaller print than it should be fine.

    Is there any difference between the original Tome of Beasts & Creature Codex and these pocket editions? Or is it just a smaller size?

    • @Brannen666
      @Brannen666 4 года назад +1

      The pocket edition is simply a smaller sized soft cover book.

      @@Brannen666 so same paper quality and all the art work is there?

      I can't speak to paper quality, but the contents are 100% the exact same.

    Is it a DD5 compatible set ?

    • @Brannen666
      @Brannen666 4 года назад +1

      Yes it is, however many people say that the CR are slightly undervalued. (Meaning a CR 5 in the codex is tougher than a CR 5 from the monster Manual.)
