Good old Panama Papers. Shock reveal of the worlds richest people doing shady stuff and the ONLY thing that happened from it was that the reporter who broke the story got killed in carbombing.
Shits insane bro. Expected.
yea tbh pretty damn insane that there where no legal follow up and they literally just wacked the whistleblower, talk aabout sending a message
TBH, did anybody expect consequences under Drumf?
@@leeandrews3639has there been any sort of follow up now that Biden has been in office for four years? This isn't a partisan issue. We're all getting fucked over by billionaires.
Laws aren't really for the rich, so not exactly surprising.
10:55 so great to watch all of these episodes from HBO’s Jon Stewart
On his hit show Next Week Tomorrow.
MOVING ON!
he really means it this time
John Stuart from Last Week last night tonight.
Hope I got that quote right, haha.
"OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Love the crowd there.
That report giving them the perfect punchline
If you're wondering how Roy Moore turned out, his Wikipedia page now has an entire "Sexual Misconduct Allegations" section.
I think everyone knows how he turned out as soon as I heard John mention his name in this I remembered the very high profile special election a year and a half later. First Democrat to win there in decades.
Roy Moore is just one of the many, many circles in the GOP’s descent to Hell. They’re too deep, I doubt they can even _see_ John McCain’s face in their memories. Now it’s just Cheetoh-tinted glasses, where everything is a grievance. Everything is an attack on you and your horny, golf-themed, willfully ignorant way of life. The Republican Party is dead. Christian nationalism and the Cult of MAGA are governing by gaslight.
@@KufLMAO and by the narrowest of margins too lmao
I came here to simply say - OMG the Roy Moore info was so relatively innocent!
I hope Wanda is doing well.
2 days ago the Panamanian courts acquitted all 28 people that were being charged with what was identified from the Panama papers.
How many Panamanian judges mysteriously died in car bombings, and how many of them suddenly bought luxury yachts?
the indubitable joke is probably one of the best john oliver jokes i’ve ever seen hahaha
Who's "John Oliver"? This is Jon Stewart.
OMG. HBO's John Stewart!
Thanks for dropping the whole season at once. Nice to just throw the playlist on and suffer/laugh.
"Dressed as dinosaurs." That is SPYRO THE DRAGON, YOU SHOW SOME RESPECT
Rest in peace to Daphne Caruana Galizia, Ján Kuciak, and Martina Kušnírová. The world has not forgotten the Panama Papers.
The Neil Patrick Harris joke always gets me.
I love how the Panama Papers never went anywhere
@@kxmode
Dude it’s been *YEARS*
I love Last Week Tonight with John Stewart
Wow.😮You dropped 30 episodes in 1 hr.❤ Since im currently in Alabama im watching this first and giving a thumbs up and commenting before my head blows off hearing negative news about here. Ill recomment afterwards. 🤔
Guess they died?
Rest in power Alabamabro ;-;
This happened to me when I tried to rent an apartment.
My SSN and credit score came back with "two different names"
After my parents separated when I was still a kid, I started to go by my mother's maiden name.
When I turned 18, I was told I had to go by my "legal" name, the one on my birth certificate and SS card.
As a caveat, there's also someone in the town I now live in, with my exact same first and last name, so I have to provide my middle name EVERY time I go to the bank.
They also took out a 24,000$ boat loan that got put on MY account.
I'm dead, just bury me.
These credit agencies should just be made illegal already. Nobody's life should be dictated by a credit score, especially a wrong one.
I really recommend watching the rest of that interview with Icelands PM, it gets worse. So uncomfortable to watch yet so satisfying.
Lol i was just about to start cleaning. Perfect timing!
The Panama Papers should have been the main segment that night the fact the all the media attention does down shortly after it was reported shows so much
“at least freeze it!” 😂🎸
I want to be in the meeting room to hear someone say “yeah fuck these guys wait til they get a load of this” every ep is brilliant
It's gotta be a literal dream come true for John getting to sing with Oscar and Elmo!
I'm so jealous, John!! ❤
Nothing will ever beat John doing the news with Cookie Monster. The outtakes and bloopers are especially epic
After listening to Bentley describe groping his employee, the most surprising thing about his wikipedia article is the apparent fact that he was a state champion on the debate team, because the man can barely string two words together.
Debate has prep and a list of topics to study. And a coach and team to work with.
@@Uruz2012 Still though
13:35 - Yeah, John, but those are why we watch your show, so, money well spent!!
Errors in credit reports is still true today. My credit score is anywhere from 590 to 698.
It's adorable that that is what they dug up on Roy Moore.
This was before most of the worse stuff was made public
I wonder if people should start suing the credit bureaus since they're the ones responsible for reporting on people's lives!!!
You hire the one with the debt, because they might work harder to pay it off
If only those idiots would actually think like this!
HBO’s Jon Stewart.
I’M DEAD
"or as they say in iceland, a slow-motion car crash"
Well yeah, we don't have a good word for slow-motion so we might just just resort to english. Or we might say "Bílslys sýnt hægt" (car accident showed slow)
oh this is from 2016, a much simpler time up til the 2nd half of the year...
Been meaning to catch up on LastWeekTonight and it just appeared on my home page, I call that a win-win :)
remember when the panama papers were supposed to do something?
After John Oliver completed his background check he released his score was actually that of Jamie Oliver…. And was so delighted he said nothing 😅
He could credit his rapid aging to the fact that Jamie was over a decade older and his body had to compensate to fit his new handle, lol
so we have credit scores and people freak out and make videos condemning or getting trippy about the china social credit score. whats the difference?
There's a HUGE difference! I'd- I'd tell you why you're wrong but I really gotta go
masssssive difference lol
You must be young and just not understand what a credit score is
The last few jokes in this segment are laugh-out-loud funny! Those fake companies are comedy gold! It’s also a reminder of why we need regulation to constrain capitalism.
The fact that HBO is putting this show for free made me buy subscription I don't even need.
If you go to their cancel flow you can reduce your bill 50% for 3 months. I just did this yesterday
John Oliver BOUGHT these episodes himself, and is re-publishing them for free on RUclips. HBO had nothing to do with the availability of these previous episodes right now. John wanted more people to see his work, and bought the archive when HBO stopped making them available to his audiences.
hbo didnt do this lol
John did
Putin just can't not be on the bad guys list even if there's no evidence, he just can't 😂
okay but I'm queer and that equal opportunity joke is still making me laugh all these years later
was it appropriate? hell no
but it WAS funny as hell and still lives in my head rent free
I pay $330 a year for a company to scan a massive database of personal information companies every month for my information and automatically file a request to have it removed from their databases. To date, they've successfully removed my information 502 times. The accuracy of their scans is 90%.
Ok everyone, time to start a movement of people who have issues with their credit reports and background checks.
Here's my story. I was denied dental insurance because the company couldn't verify that I was me. I asked why and learned where they get their info. Turns out it was from another background agency, and they got it from another, who got it from another. It took months of digging and over a year to prove to all of those companies that I did not live in one city and that I had medical debt from a state I never lived in. I even had to prove I couldn't have had credit at 5 years old or basically prove when I was born. My saving grace was the US Census. That proved when I was born, because a birth certificate wasn't proof enough. I also showed them that I was the only living person with my name in the country. My proof...the IRS and only because they messed up my tax records a decade before.
God, I hate credit reports and background checks. They should be banned if they can contain huge errors and it takes years to prove you are who you say you are.
I know this is past tense but I had to mention it anyway. You offer concern about credit company information being correct. Having been a programmer since 1978 I can say with certainty that the only privacy you will ever again have is errors in the system. Fortunately these errors usually cascade in software, especially government software. So maybe you shouldn't be quite that excited about correcting it. Just sayin'..
He's talking about errors in data entry, not errors in design, scope or coding.
I, for one, appreciate being able to hear your older shows. Thank you!
yo yo ma needs to make a guest appearance
i had to like this video because i love cellos
I'm asking for your prayers and support. Please send healing vibes my way.
Yes and they stayed at a Trump Hotel in Panama City too. Trump Hotels have a laundry service for your money.
they should be sued for discrimination
What's kind of interesting about the fireworks things, John, is that because in most places they're only sold in the summer for a limited time, there's actually quite a bit of a market for people who try to sell them at other times of the year. So, the credit check KIND OF makes sense...if there was proof of a correlation, of course.
This sounds like China’s social credit score
My ex is named in these documents 🙃
“YOURE NOTHING AMBERLEIGH!” 😂
SPOTLIGHT, SPOTLIGHT, SPOTLIGHT!
Oh yay! Here's goes my evening. :)
THIS.... is Alabama political incest....and who/what will the baby look like??
Boi this guy looked young. I feel like the news is starting to take a toll on him 😂
...you know... "HBO's Jon Stewart" is -figuratively- correct...
As a Panamanian American, I was excited that the scandal reminded people that Panama exists.
PAY YOUR TAXES 💉💉💉💉💉💉💉💉💉💉💉💉
Wow.....I love cellos
the list sounds a tad short here!?
Debt is not okay. That’s why America has domestication issues. They teach you that massive debt is normal because they want more out of you.
True story. The investment firm I worked at was bought out by Lehman Brothers. They hired a company to do a ran a background check on all of us and discovered my arrest report. I was told that if I couldn't clear this up I would be fired. I went to the county courthouse and asked for information. They had NO record of my arrest so I told that to my company's IR department. They said the information about my arrest didn't come from the county courthouse but from the FBI. The FBI? Why would they even have a record of my arrest report? Anyway, the county courthouse did give me a letter that stated they didn't have any information about my being arrest, so the company let me stay. BTW, what was my terrible crime, the one I almost lost my job over? Forty years earlier, at the age of 17 and a junior in high school, I was arrested for yelling profanities in a pizza restaurant. I was found not guilty in court when the owner, who had told the police at the time of the arrest, that they arrested the wrong person. It was someone else that was yelling, not me. Besides, I was a minor at the time so there shouldn't have been any record at all.
*Formality and Presentation Versus Education and Political Secrecy*
I think the title sums it up nicely. Reality.
All else aside, as a bisexual I actually burst out laughing at that 'fairy' joke in the credit report company ad. That humour is borderline British in the absolute deadpan delivery and I'm absolutely on board.
Would it be possible to get a follow-up episode on this? I have a strong suspicion that the numbers have gotten *a lot worse* since this aired EIGHT plus years ago.
Credit reports can screw up the weidest things. I had a couple bogus non-payments that dropped my score. When I got it cleared, 5 years later, I had my insurance company check my score. I had been paying $482 MORE ON HOME/CAR INSURANCE each year. It took 5 years to get it cleared but the other person's address is still shown as one of mine after 22 years.
Almost $2000 damages, completely urecoverable. If credot companies had to pay back those damages, I bet they'd be a lot more accurate.
@@Uruz2012 💯 Yep or a refund from the insurance company. I'm puzzled by the relationship between botched credit (one item reported) and insurance rates. It *might* be different if I wasn't paying insurance 6 months in advance???
I want some ice cream
its strange to me how he always says white people look the same as other white people but he never says any non whites look like each other
Come on John I just tried to buy some orca steaks and was as you can imagine disappointed. I had just explained to my kids that we could get some orca steaks and my three year old was very excited to get some orca steaks BUT when he learned that wouldn't happen he turned green and smashed our home. Now we will have to get a credit check to move into another place and after watching this episode I think we know how that will go. Please don't promise something and not deliver! #homelessfororcasteaks #hulkwantorcasteaks
Did it ever lead to any jail time for anybody?
You're the fucking best John.
Somebody needs to reorder the Playlist for these videos. I can do it myself, but if the RUclips app crashes or I otherwise close the Playlist, it gets undone.
Eigth episode of me complaining that he never made an update letalone a whole segment on Syria this season. I wonder what LWT will come up with when John Oliver finally says "Syria: a country you think about so little..."
I hope they never do it after reading your incessant posts begging for attention
Watching from 2024 and
Boy that Roy Moore really gets around
Hehehe Carpe Semen
my brother, john stewart
Hulu anyone? 😘😝
I once had social security report to me that someone on the other side of the country was reporting his income and taxes on my social security number. The accountant laughed at it and said at least he has a good income. I often wonder if this is why I have been able to retire since I was 30.
Was it me because the IRS messed up my tax records because a person in another state had shared my same exact name and same last 4? They died a few years later, but I still wonder...
We called him YoMa-ma when he did Crouching Tiger
Hero kinda shows
Hahahaha the mean girls bit was hilarious. I love this show.
I support you
Brilliant!
Oh hell yeah season 3, wonder if we are gonna get season 4 next mpnth
👏🏼👏🏼💙💙💙🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wonder how they're doing today.
this is OLD!! Kay IVY HUTCHISON is alabama gov
HBO released the first few seasons on RUclips. This one is Season 3, Episode 8. April 10th, 2016.
Being in debt increases your incentive to work hard. If you've got a lot of money then you'll likely have good credit while having a decreased incentive to work hard. Why work hard when you're already set?
You hire the person with no debt because they make better life choices. They also won't quit in a few years when they get out of debt and no longer have an incentive. Why would you hire someone who is only motivated by a paycheck if you could hire someone who likes to work?
@@Uruz2012 debt isnt usually caused by bad life choices though. it could either be caused by not being able to afford bare necessities or even just having a medical emergency they couldnt pay for
Talibama...
That's what's up!!!
10:56 this put me on the floor
Times Square empty?
Watching this on July 6, 2024. Some guy was dressed like Uncle Sam for the fourth and held a firework up beside his head. It exploded and killed him.
Makes the whole “three digits on his two hands” joke land just a little harder.
Reminiscing over these 8-year-old episodes, I like how the "And Now..." rubric often had as its theme "How is THIS still a thing?..." It took more thought to produce those pieces than pasting together clips of some news anchor repeating the same phrase over and over.

🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🙌🏻
ive hit way better than that and im poor.
If a credit report contains false information, and that causes someone to not get a loan or job or anything, whoever made that credit report should be in prison and be forced to compensate the person they slandered.
