    I wonder if once the line gets decommissioned, the above ground tracks can be repurposed as a linear park, in the molds of High Line Park in NYC. would be a wonderful addition to Scarborough, and likely cost the same as having to tear all the structures down

    At 4:39 you ALMOST caught the major problem with the STC and the station - when STC went through remodel in 2014ish, they removed the entrance across from the GO platform.
    That's where all the food is. Used to be management office, LensCrafters / optician, and a few other stores, and access to it was very useful.

    While i will miss line 3, it is a outdated relic and doesn't have the capacity that Scarbrough needs. with the new subway extention, maybe they will put a roof top garden in the RT's place. Also their is the Durham-Scarbrough BRT project, which would require increased capacity at Scarbrough town centre, something the RT can't handle.

      The thing is, Scarborough RT (Line 3) was already set to be replaced by “something” since it has a few major problems on its own. They can’t buy new trains to replace the nearly 40 year old rolling stock since the cars of the current Bombardier (now Alstom) Innovia Metro sets are too long to navigate the tight curve at Kennedy station. And that curve can’t really be rebuilt without a lot of money (more than what the line is worth) and a long period of service disruption. So when the line 2 extension to Scarborough was proposed, it basically solidified that “something” I mentioned earlier

    • @RMTransit
      @RMTransit  3 года назад +1

      Rebuilding the curve def wouldn't have costed more than the line is worth

      This station is served by the most bus routes than any other TTC subway stations. It's small and outdated and cannot accomodate additional bus routes. It has nothing to do with how old the line is. The TTC can’t purchase any new cars because they are not manufactured anymore, there is only so much repairing they can do with a 30 year old service fleet till they become unusable or it doesn’t make financial sense to fix them any longer.
