Can't argue with how awesome their design language is across all of their products honestly. The Space was always a board I was interested in but was always worried about the sound in the previous runs, so I'm happy to see there have been some positive changes that bring the sound closer to where I'd want it to be.
Overall that Sangria build was absolutely hitting for me and I may have to pick some of those up, especially if I cop this board.

Space65 R2 is what caught my eye and was my first GB. Had no idea what I was getting myself into. Handing over money for a keyboard that was not your $100 plastic joint, waiting 6-12 months or longer and hoping the GB got fulfilled and delivered. All I can say is Gray Studios did a fantastic job with very few minor blips but that was mainly the pandemic. My board which I still have is awesome, never any issues. tempted for a R3 but since then Ive accumulated a few more boards haha. Def a rabbit hole of a hobby but I love it including the community. Great review as always from the best beard in the business BadSeed Tech.
thats funny, im in the same boat as you. bought the purple space 65 as a first board build ever. im over here like uh i dunno about this gb bs lol. never even heard of a gb until looking at keyboards. my next build will be a apollo 80 when that comes back around. how do you like the board? how is the quality on these things? they seem to be quality which i why i purchased it. i really like the looks as well on these also.
@@parkersgarage4216 Think I made a great first purchase during the R2 group buy. The board has given me zero issues so far. Sounds amazing, but that's just preference as we all hear differently. Main thing with these kind of boards/hobby is making it your own, from the looks, the sound, what switches you use, if you want to lube the switches, to what plate you use. To many things to list hehe.
I'm glad you put the price right smack dap at the beginning. It saved me some time watching the whole video to find out. Not that I don't like watching your vids but this is crazy out of my price range.
I have R2 and they are a great vendor Gray Studio, but remember sorting for these boards takes a while after production is finished but they keep you updated.
Great board design and great review as always, that GMK Serenity set SLAPS on this board.

This R3 looks pretty sweet. I love their boards. I have the Space65 and Space80. Smart idea for them to add hot swap support. I learned how to solder because I wanted the EVA-01 so badly.
Wow, that stock Epsilon. Might have to get some of that for when i be a lazy ass and just don't care to lube them anymore.
This is a great review once again badseed! 2 things tho haha, 2 switches that I can also reccomend completely stock are the SOTC switches and the Prevail nebulas for the long pole. And regarding the best sounding spacebar, I highly reccomend checking out the Wind X65 by Wind Studio, that thing SLAPS. Anyhow, loved the review as usual!

i would love to have an explainer/deep dive video, why so many enthusiast keyboards except for mostly Keychron exclude an wireless function.
For e.g. Keychrons Q1/Q2 or GMMK Pro as wireless versions, maybe with the bonus of multidevice connectivity would be reaaaaally awesome. Don't get me wrong, a cool cable is perfect, but if i want to go full wireless...not really possible
Yeah I've always felt that's sort of odd.
Well, Keychron and GMMK are quite big companies that produce keyboards in large quantities. The real custom keyboards are produced in very limited runs which limits the feature set that can be incorporated withouth making the price ultra high. Bluetooth is only sought after by a subset of the kern enthusiasts.
@Eric Newman true that, however i feel like that this shouldn't be such a big challenge, especially for the bigger players.
e.g. a certain cutout that is filled with a part that is visual bonus (just like many customs already do) to ensure good connection and hide it as much as possible

Bought this GB hopefully it delivers. originally got the pom plate but asked to switch out to PC after watching multiple reviews including this one that was iffy on the pom plate. I think PC plate + no foams will be my go to.
I mean its a r3, so i think it's safe to say they will lol
Shoot I think I might do the same. What did the other reviewers have to say about the PC vs. POM plate?
@@dabrahadawyt I think the general consensus is that the pom plate gives a more muted sound. PC plate is a noticeably louder, with FR4 being the loudest
@@riceshakes Thanks for that tip Jackson! I initially had the FR4 and POM in my order but ended up adding the PC plate as well. Looking forward to testing out all three plates. I feel like I'll end up liking the PC more from what you mentioned. With plates its all preference so I'll bite the bullet and try all three out. Would wait for extras but with shipping costs it'd be a moot point lol. Thx again!

I am glad that you had the shadow version on hand as that's the one I ordered and wanted to see some different angles on it as opposed to what was shown on the website. I am really hoping to have either GMK Striker r2 or Norse on hand for when this arrives (not counting on it though).

Not sure why everyone is being floored by what is essentially just the most basic uncolored FR4 PCB.....
Open up electronics from 20 years ago, they all looked like this. This is just plain glassfiber sheets and epoxy. These days you usually want your pcb to look a bit nicer so they put a colored face layer on. Which also acts as a protective layer over the copper traces on the outer layers only exposing the parts that are meant to be soldered, protecting the rest from wear and tear and oxidation and corrosion. That's why that layer is also called a solder mask.
Usually in professional boards green, blue or red are used because they offer great contrast between traces and empty FR4, making it easy to spot potential problem spots or damaged areas. Green is the most popular because it doesn't strain the eyes as much for people working on them for prolonged time, compared to flashier colors. And because it's the most widely used color, materials are widely available, so it's the cheapest variant.
Black is pretty horrible in this regard because contrast is horrendous, but "looks premium" when cool visuals are more important than functionality. Like in most expensive consumer electronics today.

Sucks that the mechanical keyboard market is mostly geared towards the 65% ish area.
You can access your F-row it by holding the Fn key (the key right before the lip between it and the arrow keys) and pressing any of the numbers on the top row on many 65%.
But I get it, 75%/TKLs are there for that - Keychron Q1/GMMK Pros would be solid recommendations.
It definitely seems to be getting quite saturated with 65s lately, but a while ago there were a lot more 60% boards. Maybe 65% will drop off and we'll start seeing a much greater proportion of 75% & TKLs than we have been.

@@aMilling Worst part about Q3 is the case ping which thankfully can be fixed. I think it's a great choice.

I like those gmk cadet caps kinda look like the gmk striker. Question how are pbt amazing keycaps like they sell knock off gmk strikers they are pbt for 50 bucks are they any good. Also found a pbt 8008 kit looks identical obviously its pbt but are rhey really that bad
Is this worth 375 ans to wait over 6 months. Plus the luck ive had with gb i dont trust it. Last keyboard gb I did said 4 yo 6 months I didnt get it for over a year. Keycaps I just received my gmk evil dolch idk almost 2 years. I hate waiting I just ordered and received a kbd67 mark II pvd laser and its awesome sounds amazing and looks amazing. I'm using telious v2 switches they are great board bas a good thock trying to figure out what switches to use next for the best thock sound dont matter if its linear or w.e
Personally I think its worth it, yeah. There are some bad stories with GBs but Graystudio is super consistent. They've released numerous boards and they always deliver.

It’s probably just because I am dumb but I wish there was a visual representation for configuration between sound tests. Not a huge fan of reading all the configuration while trying to listen to the sound tests.

@@kotic33 that’s fair and I do but I think it would be cool to see a shot of the pcb and the foams and everything then into the sound test. Wouldn’t add very much to the time of the video and would just be a nice visible representation of what we are about to hear.

How would you compare this to something like the wind x 65?
I'm still new to keyboards and was really debating on whether I wanted to get this board or not since I'm pretty happy with my tofu 60 but I decided to pull the plug and order one. I bought my tofu pre built so this will be my first actual build. I'm pretty nervous I hope I can do a good job. I really want to put the epsilon switches but I can't find them anywhere for sale. Any advice for good switches to go for that aren't sold out? I have drop mito laser sa keycaps coming in to go with the board.
I have about 80 maybe 90 Epsilons left over that you're welcome to, i didn't think/know Prevail would be restocking them again so soon like they did last week, so found them in stock at an authorized vendor website in Germany i ordered 200 of them 2 months ago lol. but yeah they are brand new, received them a few weeks ago.
Question good sir! Does the light bleed still occur even with the non-opaque plates like FR4? I'm probably one of the weird ones but that light bleed would bother me.. haha, but if there would be no bleed with the FR4 plate I'll go ahead with the purchase.. i literally have it in my cart right now but after i watched your video with the light bleed.. I'm considering passing..
Its does still, yeah. Sadly, you definitely still see it even with the FR4 plate which is completely solid.

Not a bad looking board. As the owner of a Rama Works Koyu 65%, I found myself missing the F1-F12 keys sometimes, and I just hopped on the group buy for the Rama Works U80-B TKL, which may be my endgame board unless Rama makes a 75% at some point. I also love the HHKB layout, but goign back to the regular layout on a TKL will certainly make it much easier to find keycap sets.

Anyone know where he got those purple/gold Durock stabs? I've been looking for them and can't find them. I think they used to be on Novelkeys, and Taeha is the only other person I've seen with them. I know that its really just a different color but I want them for my next build's aesthetics.
