Persons commenting dont seem to understand what is meant by "batting stylist". It is not necessarily the greatest batsman but the ones who are most attractive to watch in terms of classic technique, grace, elegance and artistry. Rowe was the best. His videos were being used in the Australian cricket academy to train their young batsmen. Quite a shame that West Indies admin did not see fit to preserve tapes of these greats for future generations of cricketers.

Although I am a Jamaican I don't believe that Marlon Samuel belongs in that elite group of WI Cricketers. He may be good but not good enough to be numbered in that class
Thanks for your contribution. The region is so blessed with so many elegant players Someone is bound to be left out. Note, I did NOT say Top 10. I merely highlighted ten.
@@TheLuvrat The primary criterion was not average. I was highlighting batting stylists or batting aesthetics. Certainly, there are several other batting stylists that were not listed among this 10.
This is not a well thought out list. Batsmen can't be categorised by just style. George Headley should always be mentioned in this type of conversation. He wasn't called ATLAS for nothing.
Cannot compare brian laura and the rest in the late 90s to the 60 70 80 cricketers pure nonsense because back then there was no restrictions on bowlers and no protective guards for batsmen
Remember it is not primarily about averages but about batting aesthetics. I gave you testimonials to substantiate every batsman that was highlighted. Thanks for your contribution. We won't all come to a consensus on every player. Thanks for your contribution.
Listening to your comment, based on your voice. It seems like you are from Barbados, because you does not understand the intricacies of cricket at all. Because you are entitled to your own beliefs, because when you are comparing Lara with Tendulkar. The world will think that you are very, very crazy. Because Tendulkar into a class by himself,he is A and Lara is in B class.I would like this blogger to differentiate, between the two batsmen. Who is the batter and more reliable batsman, because Tendulkar is the only batsman in international cricket. That scored 100 centuries, compared to Lara with 53 centuries and. Tendulkar scored 34,000 international runs compared to Lara with 22,000 runs. This blogger is suffering from some mental health problem, because there is no comparison here. That is why the WI cricket is under the cellar over the years, because they packed the team. With a lot of inconsistent batsmen from Barbados, so the team will never improve, until they stop the biasness. Against certain players,it is not who you likes. It is who can go out there on game day and performed, for the team.In any form of sports,it is performances that counts,it is not who likes you at all, ok.
Thanks for your contribution but you are missing the point big time. I quoted Mark Butcher comments. This video is not about who has the highest average or the highest accumulator of runs. It is about aesthetics and style and Mark Butcher is entitled to his opinion like anyone else.
The primary criteria is not average. I am highlighting stylists. Yes, there are several other stylists in the Caribbean. Carl Hooper has an average of 36.46. What do you say about him?
How you have 10 west Indian batsmen and I only see 2 indian batsmen? all the others are black African batsmen!!! let's stop calling black African people west Indians... they are not indians.. it's time for us to give them their true identity and stop giving them the identity of another race!!! the black race is the only race that is given the identity of another and we feel comfortable with it..is Sachin Tendulkar a black man? do we call the indian team!!! west Africans? so why do we call ourselves west Indians? wake up black people we have been sleeping too long...
The region and the team is still called West Indies. Therefore, the proper adjective for the noun would be West Indian. Let us embrace the diversity and plurality of the region. It makes us unique bro. One Love
When you hear foolishness about elegant players and, does not have any form of runs. To compensate for their careers, ratings does not go by production anymore. It is who those journalist really likes, away from Lara , and Chanderpaul who played more test matches than Gayle. Gayle is the only WI batsman in the history of cricket,to centuries in all formats and. Having the 2nd highest in hundreds next to Lara, the only WI batsman to scored double hundred in ODI. Gayle and Lara is the only two WI batsmen to scored two triple hundreds in test cricket,so sometimes. When you hear some of those bloggers is talking their nonessentical arguments, you know that. They does not understand the intricacies of the games at all, because is only batsmen with good techniques. Can scores two triple hundreds in test cricket and, Sobers also Rowe is, the other two batsmen to scored triple hundreds in test cricket. I have watched all the players them you are talking about, over the years and. I don't really see none of them better than Chris Gayle at all.Because I don't really see VIv Richards having any form of techniques at all, I don't know. But for some strange reasons, they are over rating Viv Richards and. He have nothing to show as records, comparing to Chris Gayle as the longest opener for the WI team. Even Dujon is a far more elegant players than Desmond Haynes and Greenidge, also Viv Richards. Elegance does not determined the quality of a player at all,it the amount of runs. That one scores during their career playing for the WI team, how you are going to equates. A player as Gayle with almost 20,000 runs with Sobers only have 8,032 runs, and 24 hundreds.I don't know how this blogger or, his analyst come by their determination. About the top players them with the best techniques, I guessed. That some people is very much confused, about style and techniques together. Also this person should understand about average, that the person with the highest average. That doesn't proved the abilities of the batsman, because average most based on the amount of not out is . Going to give the batsmen a better average, than the batsmen with less not out.Because they are going to divided the amount of innings,by runs and. The man with the most not out,he is going to have a higher number to divide with. So he is going to have a higher average than the other batsmen, even though you may scored the most runs in the competition. But because some people does not understand the intricacies about average, they always elaborating about average. Because they does not know how to work it out,so you haveto see with some people.I know that you have some cyber bullies out there, who does not understand the intricacies about cricket. So they are going to get emotional about my comment, because they does not understand the intricacies of the games. I am not afraid of intimidation or criticism, because everyone have the right. To expressed themselves about certain scenarios, but assumptions and facts is two different things. One is perception and the other one is reality, what really happened.During the games of play, so you cannot denied it at all. I will stand by and hopeful, to get some silly responses.
Sir Boyd, this video is not about technique but style and aesthetics. There are many other West Indians who could make the list. The word 'Top Ten' was never mentioned. Ten players were highlighted. You have mentioned other players which I appreciate. Aesthetics is a part of the artistry of the game. Many spectators will go to a cricket match to see their favorite player play one shot and to them it is worth the price of admission and more.
@@cricketunmasked You cannot tell me how to answer the question ❓, I have seeing what you are saying differently.Because you wrote something, which you don't even understand the intricacies cricket.I know that it is your own opinion , but I have a right to respond to it.But if you want to know about good players, just ask me and. I will try to help you, because the players that you have mentioned. I have watched all of them played throughout their careers, so I don't haveto listened to anybody at all.As I already said before, that you are getting yourself confused. With the styles of the players and techniques, also elegance. All of those players, they have certain elegance in some of their strokes. Please tell me what did I said wrong, which you don't like at all.
@@donovanpusey4415 can you read properly you fucking dunced, what the fuck sobers haveto do with what am saying. I know when Sobers was playing for years before he became captain,I watched him batting on several occasions. I even saw him at Florida Fort Lauderdale,by the cricket ground. So what you are telling about Sobers scoring 8,032 runs in test cricket and scored 24 centuries. Looking at 8,032 with 24 centuries and 1 triple century, while Gayle scored 2 triple hundreds in test cricket,15/ 37 , also 7,256 runs, 25/ 56 ODI hundreds with 10,542 runs, and 1,955 runs in T20 cricket with 2/ 18 also 75 test wickets, and 189 ODI, also T20 45 wickets. Gayle is also classified as an all rounder, the man is far ahead of Garfield Sobers. He is more recognized the Sobers, also Viv Richards worldwide.Gayle has played more cricket worldwide, than any other WI cricketers, only Pollard,Narine, Bravo, may a lot of cricket worldwide as Gayle.Donavan Pusey have you ever seen Sobers played cricket,or Chris Gayle and. Who you would rated as the better batsman,in terms of hundreds and runs. Also the better entertainer of cricket, who people would loves to enjoying themselves in the Stands,Sobers or Gayle, who would you pay your money to watch batting. Well I would rather to see Gayle bat more than Sobers in any formats of cricket, that is why the man is the 10 richest cricketer in the world. So you try to remember that, they paid him big bucks. Because he is one of the best entertainer in world cricket, try put that into your thick skull. Why some of you younger generation is so jealous at Chris Gayle, because he has done things in cricket. Which no other batsmen have ever done before, with those 22 T20 hundreds which he scored. You named another batsman in the world, who you strongly believed, can break that record.I don't know which country you are from, but you are way out of touch with the reality of cricket son.
Listening to this blogger talking about elegance, that does not play cricket at all. You proved yourself blogger that you are really biased,or you does not understand the intricacies of the game at all. It seems like the numbers on runs or taking wickets does not matter anymore, and the success of the players. Because anybody have any sense at all about cricket and, you have two and one spot in your team. With Lara and the great man Tendulkar, this guy said that he would go with Lara because of his style of batting. He is not talking about the contribution of both players, who is more productive towards the team winning. That is why the WI team is struggling over the years and, cannot do well international. Because most of the WI people just like the selectors them, they are looking on a player who is reliable and competent. A player who can score runs on a regular basis like Tendulkar, and a bowler like mulitheran. No wonder the WI team is in this messed over the years and, it got worse in 1995 . When Australia beaten the WI team at Sabina Park Kingston Jamaica, so it is not now. That the WI team is in this mess, any blogger you are untitled to your own opinion and. Opinion and fact is two different things, facts is the reality of what one does and, opinion is what you think of,ok.
Sir Boyd, the subject is Batting Stylists. So don't divert it from what the subject is. Batting Stylist is a subjective issue. Cricket is an art that carries an aesthetic appeal and as such style don't go unnoticed by spectators.

Thanks for your contribution. Look out for part 2
Yes, he was. If he did not keep wicket, he would have shown his real class. Jeff was a classy player, even during his school days at Wolmers.
Please, take Marion Samuels out of that. How can you rate him ahead of Shiv. Chanderpaul,Richie Richardson, and even old schoolers like Seymour Nurse and a host of other greats.
Certainly, there are other batting stylists in the region apart from the ten that were highlighted. Remember it is not primarily about averages but about batting aesthetics. I gave you testimonials to substantiate every batsman that was highlighted.

How about three W's - Walcott, Weekes, Worrell -, Seymour Nurse, Collie Smith and other great West Indian batsmen who delighted the world stage? Although there are not many videos of these legends batting, we should NOT forget their contributions. Richie Richardson and Clive Lloyd from the recent times were phenomenal as well.
Certainly, there are others apart from the ten that were highlighted.
It was awesome
They are talking about stylist
Wes Hall and CharleyGriffiths were brilliant bowlers

Carl Hooper ?????.

Well, one of the criteria was batting aesthetics-hence the title stylist. It wasn't just about averages. What would you say about Carl Hooper?
I gave you testimonials as well to substantiate the subject.

I am absolutely surprised there is no George Headley

Great players can't argue with these guys making the list. Its ridiculous Carl Hooper only averaged 36 ?
That is so true. He should have averaged much more. He did average in his 40's when he was made captain.
But his overall average doesn't appear compatible with his immense talent
What a pity no modern day West Indian except samuels how the mighty have fallen
@@elvisthelambert609 and he averaged 32.

I think you are clearly misconstruing the contents of the video. No comparison was drawn between players. The video is about batting stylists.
Viv is the best, lara 2nd best

Sorry Hoops don't belong here. Was a pretty batsman but he didn't give enough.

He has no authority to comment because he wasn't even born when some of those mentioned were playing. He is annoying.
thanks for your comment
T
Samuel no fit for that list,,,him ave far, far ,far to go before him reach that level, i would satisfy with Gayle, shiv or clive
The primary criteria is not average. I am highlighting stylists. Yes, there are several other stylists in the Caribbean. Carl Hooper has an average of 36.46. What do you say about him?
You are very biased and can't live with reality give credit where credit is due and delete your ego

One Love
We talking about cricket and not race
@@donovanpusey4415 Thank you for that Sir Pusey

Sobers has over 8,000 runs 24 hundreds plus as on all rounder
How can omit gayle?
