I don't even hold Emery's time at Arsenal against him. Our squad was truly in the shit at the time. Players had too much influence. Much better footing for him at Villa. He really could make them stable like they used to be, and hopefully, back to regulars in Europe.
I don't think people are underestimating them. I think fans are looking at Villa and us (Newcastle) and declaring Europe as being a hinderance. While I think we will struggle with UCL to contend with I don't think we will get far enough into the competition to be a total hinderance if people get me. Uno R16 would be fantastic anything more is just a dream but with villa it think Emery with analyse how the season is going. Say if Villa are 7th-9th yet in say the QTRs of the conference league I believe he will sack off the league and go for the trophy which villa are very capable of winning. I believe he did the same at Villarreal and possibly with Sevilla at times which plenty of Villa fans I know would take the trophy since both get Europa. I do find it funny though how people immediately think Chelsea and Spurs are going to kick Newcastle and Villa out of the top 6 race and set things back into normality.
It is nice to see other teams breaking into the top 6, both us (Villa) and Newcastle clubs with a big following and big financial backing but also very well-run and structured which shows they're in it for the long-term. Also seeing clubs like Brighton and Brentford, even Fulham doing so well is great. There's so much competition fighting for the european places now and if a team is not 100% on the day the chances are they will get beat, whoever they are. Apart from City maybe! I don't see how Chelsea and Spurs can be as bad again as they were last season, however like you say it's not a given they will be fighting for the higher places. Chelsea under Poch should improve and have more settled players and a less bloated squad. Spurs I think may struggle again, especially if they don't get this Kane issue resolved asap.
Villa are building in the right way..spending good money on the actual players they need coupled that with a manager that fits the club perfectly and then getting in the back room staff like Monchi and others to help the project move along nicely and without any dramas..I haven’t even mentioned the great owners the club now have..one is from the richest families in Egypt who have billions and the other “Wes Eden’s” is an American billionaire..not only are they doing everything to make the team and squad better they’re rebuilding Villa park to be over a fifty thousand seater stadium where if you look at the drawn plans looks absolutely awesome..it’s a clubs that is being ran the right way..love how Rory is bigging up Villa to reach the champions league but maybe not just yet but the ambitions are definitely there
villa is a proper prem club with history as well, has all the tools to be a big club again. the spending maybe didn’t suit smith and gerrard but emery is getting a tune out of both the new signings and the guys who didn’t meet expectations in the last 18 months. it’s great to see the owners still investing when they could’ve panicked when it wasn’t going to plan. just my perspective as an outsider.
Villa will finish top 8 this year, they've got a fantastic setup, good manager but they're still in transition, next season if all goes well will be there time to push the big boys
@@ricochet243we’ve seen this many of times in the premier league it doesn’t always turn out as simple as that. You need to bare in mind they have to play European games mid week to add in and now they have the additional pressure from the standards they set the season before. Top 8 for them would be a dream
Funny this gets recommended just as I'm watching Newcastle completely demolish Villa. I've been thinking everyone has been overestimating Villa. Looking at their team they look decidedly mediocre and they are being outrun, outskilled and outplayed on every part of the pitch by this Newcastle side that "everyone" seems to think is going to drop compared to last season.
I don't think it's a bad shout to say that Unai Emery is a better manager than Arteta right now. However, that heavily favors Unai since he has been a manager for a much longer time, while Arteta is still at his first club and has improved as a manager every season. It can also be said that Arteta is a much better manager for Arsenal than Unai ever could have been. As an Arsenal supporter, I still have much respect for Unai, think he was quite unfairly treated when he inherited that awful team, and I hope he does well with Villa and they finish in the top 5 alongside Arsenal (hopefully instead of United)
Very competitive landscape in the premiership right now - the Top 5 places can go any way between 6 or 7 strong teams, including Brighton, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Tottenham and even Chelsea in the 4th and 5th spots.
When you have been alive long enough to see Villa win everything, like I have. Using the term mid table club doesn’t sit easy with me. In fact it’s an insult. Football is cyclical. The Manchester clubs ,Liverpool and all London clubs were once crap some still are. Also football was around before the premier league. Man City and Chelsea got lucky, and seem immune from ffp rules.
I think Villa and Chelsea look like clubs primed for a big year and remember there could be a spot added for CL so finishing 5th might get you in the CL.
What I would like to point out is Villa is a huge club. Massive fan base one of the biggest in England. I think 5th or 6th highest trophy hall in the league. And no disrespect to Arsenal or Spurs. But how many European Cup/Champs league have they won??? So please don’t talk about Villa like an up start team. It wasn’t that long a go when Europe was a regular and lets not forget its been a long time since Arsenal had a huge impact on the Prem. Again no disrespect to Arsenal as they are a really good team and great to watch. Plus as mentioned Villa have two hugely wealthy owners and Sawaris family is actually the richest in Egypt if not one of in the whole of the African continent. So money is not an issue for Villa’s owners. Plus now in Emery and the owners they have a manager and board that is well versed and organised in what they want to achieve. Unfortunately for the last 11 years or so the club was run badly since O’Neil left.
As a villa fan i think expection is 4th-6th this season anything below 6th would be slightly dissapointing after the comback made last season once unai emery arrived
Been saying for a while would love for you guys to get a villa fan creator on the show, should definitely do a watch along first game of the season with a newcastle and villa creator.
We have 4 good centre halves konsa and Mings were brilliant last season , we now have Carlos and Torres and we are playing 3 of those 4 plus either a left or right back depending on the opposition I’d guess.
Villa fan here. I really think we are getting carried away .Chelsea. spurs. Newcastle. And lets not forget Brighton will all be stronger this season. Who ever finishes in the European places will deserve it in my book. Of course i hope its villa because we are also stronger. Lets take each game at a time .vtwd.SOTC.
His right though if you look into it villa are a much bigger club 7 league titles 12 domestic trophies a European cup aswell a massive fan base in the second city known around Europe, newcastle are also a big club but not as big in my opinion
the healthy competition among the Villa centre backs in immense, Mings and Konsa under emery last season were top top class, 2 big solid men who are both animals in the air, great blockers of the ball and have brought their error count down to rock bottom since emery came In. now torres and carlos are looking to muscle their way into the starting lineups and mings and konsa are making a very strong argument for their right to stay as the starting duo with konsa scoring a screamer off a 50 yard solo run over the weekend against brentford and Mings leading the team both with his leadership qualities and by example on the pitch.
We may end up playing 3 CBs and 1 FB. We did it twice this preseason. Wouldn't surprise me to see a back 4 of Konsa, Mings, Torres and Moreno (when healthy). Moreno flies forward on the wing and the others form a back 3 in possession. Very exciting times
Our trouble is the dilemma of playing Watkins- Yes he's exceptional at bringing other players in and are very hard working but-He needs too may chances to score a goal- If we bring in a clinical striker than I would agree but if not, we haven't got enough up front imho
We may not have enough strength up front to get 5th, Watkins is good for top 8ish, but not top 5ish. Plus Duran is nowhere near, Archer is still on course but maybe a massive surprise along with Kellyman and Phillonge Dibace. But none of that list is proven in the Prem, but if one of that lists can shine, then just maybe we have a slim chance of getting top 5.
Villa will sign 2 or 3 more players and watch them smash the league. Top 6 is going to happen. Great manager, ambitious owners, and an excellent squad. When Emery took over at Villa, we were 17th, above relegation zone on goal difference. He got us to Europe with Gerrard's squad.
I might just slip a crafty £10 on Villa to finish top 5 this season and another £10 on them to win the Conference league. Great time to be a Villan.. UTV
When Arteta wins 4 European trophies, a domestic quadruple (Emery did it with PSG) then maybe Arteta can be compared to Emery. Right now, not even close
Everyone's OVERESTIMATING them. Emery's not finished top four in his entire career with a team that isn't PSG. He's a great cup manager and I'll put money on them to win the conference league but no way they're getting top four.
I think every player looked worse off after playing under Steven Gerrard, once a quality Coach/Manager came in like Unai Emery and gave the right instructions, they all stepped up and improved. People can complain all they like about Mings but he was consistent in the team that went from Relegation Battle to European Qualification.
aside from City being the best team in the league, this is the most competitive the league has ever been, imo. Arsenal, United, Liverpool, and Newcastle all have really strong teams. Chelsea, Tottenham, and Aston Villa could be strong as well depending on the manager/signings. the race for top 5 is going to be crazy.
Tottenham is a lost cause. However, I am genuinely excited for this upcoming season. I truly feel like Arsenal, City, Liverpool are going for top 1 and United, Newcastle, Chelsea and even Brighton and Villa coming from behind. The difference in points will be so thin between all club. They will definitely keep us on the edge of our seats!
@@georgekondov4001 if they lose Kane then yes, they will not be competitive with the rest. Brighton, i'm not sure. they're going to lose Caicedo. but De Zerbi is a good manager so they could still be strong. i don't think Arsenal or Liverpool will be close to City unless they lose more players. so far only Gundogan and Mahrez. if Bernardo, Walker, Laporte, etc. all leave then they could be in trouble.
As a villa fan happy you guys acknowledge us but not yet for top 5 maybe 6th but Chelsea gonna comeback on top of everyone in the top 6 andmaybe spurs too im not getting carried away but very happy on what we are doing

Emery is a cup manager , his main focus will be on the conference league . Most of his teams finish 7th in his last few seasons , so this Villa top 4 debate is a myth. Villa will be playing Thursday - Saturday , the squad depth isn't that good lets be honest
Villa are likely to have a good season, but they're falling in to the hype job territory because of Twitter. They will not be challenging for top 4. Zero chance.
Said the same thing about Newcastle, depends if Chelsea, Liverpool and spurs are still being poor. If united can get in a good striker. Bournemouth will also suprise people this season.
As a villa fan we learn not to get carried away and always presume the worst 😂 but it is an exciting time... I'd be happy with the conference trophy and top 12
Keeping in mind both their struggles and highs ...who is the better manager poch or emery....personally i feel it's emery... What are ur thoughts fellas ?
Top 4 is asking a lot. Unless Archer or Philogene-Bidace can step up and score some goals, Villa will be a Goal Scorer short. Top 6 is more realistic.👍
As a villa fan I am optimistic. But.. I would say we are now playing under alot more pressure and the expectations are alot higher. The pressure might get us. But still.. very happy fan.
I'd love for Villa to get Europa League, I think CL is just too far a stretch, the league is just so stacked. I do think Newcastle haven't quite got the squad depth and got a bit lucky last season to have so few injuries, but I think Chelsea are going to come back strong this season based on pre-season and having Poch. Spurs will fall away and you then have City, Liverpool, United, Arsenal all as CL shoe-ins
For me personally, Villa beat Newcastle in almost every single position... you could put Trippier in front of Cash but i don't think i'd play anyone else over a Villa player personally. Bruno in my opinion is overhyped and Kamara/Dougie Luiz offer a lot more.
I mean they have a much bigger history than a lot of people realise, granted a fair amount of that is going back over 100 years. Their owners are the fifth richest in the league, they are European cup winners, they should be the next one to break up that “big 6”
yep it's because football was invented in 1992. Why do you think clubs like Villa, Everton. Newcastle, Leeds & Forest ain't classed as big clubs to the younger generation
saying emery is limited at bigger clubs is just wrong. still best ppg as arsenal manager post wenger and emery is psgs most successful ever manager. it was always gonna be a challenge taking over from wenger and getting to the europa league final with the squad he had is very overlooked
Aston Villa will finish in the top 5 this season. The defence is rock solid and the midfield is sensational. Diaby and Watkins will create havoc. One or two more astute forward signings and we might finish higher than 5th.
You guys don't watch enough football. Mings was pretty good last year, Tielemans has a lot of prove after last season's showing. Players of his "calibre" going on a free would be attracting CL level clubs.
The thing is as a Villa fan we know Weber been away for a long time, but having Newcastle spurs fans disrespect us is a joke we are huge compared to both those clubs, now we have a proper manager with great owners, let’s see what happens this season, but I can’t see anyone really wanting to play us this season, going back to Newcastle spurs both useless clubs that have never won anything
I don't think people are understating us. People keep saying we will challenge for Europe and the season will depend on how we find playing midweek. Think that's fair enough
Let’s say spurs didn’t have ange, (I think there’s a good chance ange does sometging well at spurs btw). What if spurs got emery? How would that go? Would he transform them? Would he be able to get the big signings?

@@leechamberlain2792 I honestly believe Chelsea will sack Poch by Christmas. They haven’t learnt anything judging by this transfer window
@zeeafraud7898 they have spent 1 billion in the last 10 years same as city so expectations are getting higher

Villa will finish top 8 this year, they've got a fantastic setup, good manager but they're still in transition, next season if all goes well will be there time to push the big boys
Villa finished 7th last season and have improved their squad since then.
@@ricochet243we’ve seen this many of times in the premier league it doesn’t always turn out as simple as that. You need to bare in mind they have to play European games mid week to add in and now they have the additional pressure from the standards they set the season before. Top 8 for them would be a dream
@tomgoodier2802 a dream!? 😂 Many Villa fans would be a bit disappointed with 8th, I think.
No chance for top 4
It's top 5 now mukka and I think 5th is possible
Funny this gets recommended just as I'm watching Newcastle completely demolish Villa. I've been thinking everyone has been overestimating Villa. Looking at their team they look decidedly mediocre and they are being outrun, outskilled and outplayed on every part of the pitch by this Newcastle side that "everyone" seems to think is going to drop compared to last season.
I don't fear anyone except City this season , Home or Away , Starting with a win at Newcastle Next week
Mings, Konsa, Carlos and Torres with Chambers as a back up is outrageous CB depth
Villa will cause a lot of teams problems next season, great window for them so far
Aston villa are bigger threat to top 4 than spurs and chelsea
Emery is a top-tier coach, and if you don't know, you will. Theyare going to compete.
It’s hard to judge emery vs arteta at Arsenal. The financial backing arteta has received is something emery could only dream of.
@@LAvision you say that like Emery wasn't the manager of PSG
Villa mosy definetely a mid table club in the Premier league era
Division 1 Era was different time
@@calm123 16 top half finishes ?
Dan Bardell
We have 4 good centre halves konsa and Mings were brilliant last season , we now have Carlos and Torres and we are playing 3 of those 4 plus either a left or right back depending on the opposition I’d guess.
Villa fan here. I really think we are getting carried away .Chelsea. spurs. Newcastle. And lets not forget Brighton will all be stronger this season. Who ever finishes in the European places will deserve it in my book. Of course i hope its villa because we are also stronger. Lets take each game at a time .vtwd.SOTC.
Rory you can only qualify for champions league in 5th next season if you have history in the champions league which villa dont
One that's not true, it's about the success of the league the club is in. And two, Villa have WON the thing.

Just imagine what the content of this channel could be if Buvey had one grain of football knowledge
His right though if you look into it villa are a much bigger club 7 league titles 12 domestic trophies a European cup aswell a massive fan base in the second city known around Europe, newcastle are also a big club but not as big in my opinion
The kurupt FM reference from Rory 😂
Emery is an impressive manager who is also a great coach who improves all the players in his team.
the healthy competition among the Villa centre backs in immense, Mings and Konsa under emery last season were top top class, 2 big solid men who are both animals in the air, great blockers of the ball and have brought their error count down to rock bottom since emery came In. now torres and carlos are looking to muscle their way into the starting lineups and mings and konsa are making a very strong argument for their right to stay as the starting duo with konsa scoring a screamer off a 50 yard solo run over the weekend against brentford and Mings leading the team both with his leadership qualities and by example on the pitch.
Emery well clear of Arteta we will be up there 5 th would be AWESOME 💜💙👊🏾
Our trouble is the dilemma of playing Watkins- Yes he's exceptional at bringing other players in and are very hard working but-He needs too may chances to score a goal- If we bring in a clinical striker than I would agree but if not, we haven't got enough up front imho
Diaby looks good and Watkins has been good in pre season so far.
Im a Newcastle fan , I look forward to our games with villa, they look an exciting team for this season!
Roll on match day one!
Good shout mate, i'm same as a villa fan, so excited for ehat us 2 and Brighton can do to top 6. Up the toon and up the villa 💜
Its a marathon not a sprint. All the unproven just have to contribute. Plus Watkins playing off Diaby is going to be magical.
@@christianc.2664 To right, I see Diaby being our Mo Salah, playing off the wing, cutting in, and getting the shot off.
2:45 The cigar on the touch line got me😂 UTV
If anything I’d say Villa are being overrated I’m seeing them being seen as a challenger for top 4 and I just don’t even see anything close to it.
A comment that actually aged well👀
Everyone's OVERESTIMATING them. Emery's not finished top four in his entire career with a team that isn't PSG. He's a great cup manager and I'll put money on them to win the conference league but no way they're getting top four.
Nobody said top 4
i absolutely love what villa is doing this season. have high expectation.
Up the mighty Villa!!!
As a villa fan happy you guys acknowledge us but not yet for top 5 maybe 6th but Chelsea gonna comeback on top of everyone in the top 6 andmaybe spurs too im not getting carried away but very happy on what we are doing
Chelsea are finished! Todd Boehly at the wheel!
top 4 is crazy, there’s no world where they finish above city arsenal liverpool or united, then there’s the others like newcastle and chelsea about. I think they’ll get 5th at very most but most likely they’ll finish 6th cus one of newcastle or chelsea will have a good season. They’ve made some top signings but who’s to say they all work and who’s to say watkins can keep up last years form
I get what ya saying mate it’s a tough ask, but there was no world where Leicester won the league when they did… this season is going to be the biggest shake up in the top 10 I think we’ll see for a while. So many clubs with good teams now, anything can happen imo
Watkins has been consistent for 3 years in a row, Liverpool have totally ripped there midfield apart, Chelsea haven’t got on, Newcastle will drop off massively this season, they overachieved hugely last season and everyone knows it,top 5 city arsenal Utd villa Liverpool

3rd best manager in the league??? So Klopp just gets thrown under the bus after 1 bad season? For me it's Pep, Klopp and Arteta...
so you use the 'only one bad season' logic then say Arteta is great based on one season🤣
Top 10 with a conference league win will make me a very happy villa fan. 👍
Would be nice to see them win the Conference tbf
Emery is a cup manager , his main focus will be on the conference league . Most of his teams finish 7th in his last few seasons , so this Villa top 4 debate is a myth. Villa will be playing Thursday - Saturday , the squad depth isn't that good lets be honest
Good shout, squad depth is an issue
Villa will not be playing Thursday and Saturday. The squad depth is actually very good too.
Is it top 5 for ucl now??
Unai is elite
Watch him humble the premier league this season
Villa are likely to have a good season, but they're falling in to the hype job territory because of Twitter. They will not be challenging for top 4. Zero chance.
agreed. Top 10 finish is good for them
Said the same thing about Newcastle, depends if Chelsea, Liverpool and spurs are still being poor. If united can get in a good striker. Bournemouth will also suprise people this season.

Top 12? Only if we win the Conference League and the FA Cup. Otherwise top 6 and the FA Cup please. It's the only trophy I've not seen the Villa win.
Keeping in mind both their struggles and highs ...who is the better manager poch or emery....personally i feel it's emery... What are ur thoughts fellas ?
Maybe a 3142 for villa next season???
Top 4 is asking a lot. Unless Archer or Philogene-Bidace can step up and score some goals, Villa will be a Goal Scorer short. Top 6 is more realistic.👍
Tielemans and Unai Emeri. Going to be a massive year for Villa
Finally a decent conversation about us from people outside of villa. Unai is definitely better than arteta, not even a conversation at the moment
what does rory mean by top 5 for ucl now??? am i missing something
Yikes.
Well done..5-1.
@@kaihiggins725 yeah it’s sad really, I do think football media generally should make more of a point of it for the younger generations

Aston Villa will finish in the top 5 this season. The defence is rock solid and the midfield is sensational. Diaby and Watkins will create havoc. One or two more astute forward signings and we might finish higher than 5th.
Villa finish higher than spurs and Chelsea this season, Emery will have them playing some
Lovely football with the signings they’ve made. Top 6
Finished above them last season ✔️
You guys don't watch enough football. Mings was pretty good last year, Tielemans has a lot of prove after last season's showing. Players of his "calibre" going on a free would be attracting CL level clubs.
Is the 5th position a guaranteed CL spot from now on?
The thing is as a Villa fan we know Weber been away for a long time, but having Newcastle spurs fans disrespect us is a joke we are huge compared to both those clubs, now we have a proper manager with great owners, let’s see what happens this season, but I can’t see anyone really wanting to play us this season, going back to Newcastle spurs both useless clubs that have never won anything
I don't think people are understating us. People keep saying we will challenge for Europe and the season will depend on how we find playing midweek. Think that's fair enough
One of these two underestimates Villa. "Scrappy upstart" I almost spat out my Ribena
“Smashed United in the Europa league”
They won 11-10 on penalties. Jesus Buvey is the worst
Let’s say spurs didn’t have ange, (I think there’s a good chance ange does sometging well at spurs btw).
What if spurs got emery? How would that go? Would he transform them? Would he be able to get the big signings?
When did it become top 5 this season for Champions League qualifying?
A question for buvey.... If guardiola was to leave city next season, who would you like to replace him?
Are people forgetting 5th gets ucl??
