I think a Sequence trick taking game would be a nice gateway game. Far simpler than Le Plateau. Win the trick, place a chip. Get five in a row to win. Boom.
I went to replace my Sequence game because it suffered water damage and had no idea there was a Sequence Dice! I love dice games. Thanks for the review. Sequence "classic" is one of my favorite board games and I can see how Sequence Dice could be my #2. Thanks for the review.
Makes me think of a game I invented myself similar to this, except it had more of a gambling element to it and was for just two players. It uses a 4 x 4 board has 3 and 11 in the corners, even numbers 4 6 8 and 10 on the outer sides, and 5 and 9 in the middle. And basically you roll for numbers the same way to get four in a row, the differences are that 2 and 12 are wild, doubles give players another turn including 2 and 12, rolling 7 penalizes the player allowing your opponent to remove a counter from the board, and rolling numbers already occupied means having to pay to the pot which grows until someone gets four in a row and wins. Then also if a player makes a diagonal row they win the pot and half the other player's stake, and then getting a counter on all four corners wins the pot and all the opponent's skate. I don't have a very good name for it though, right now I just call it Rows and Corners, but if you like Sequence Dice it might be something you will like.

This game is fun for adults who like light games. It is nice to play with drinks and conversation. If you are looking for a complex game that takes more thinking, Sequence Dice is not a good choice. Hope this helps!
