8th grade woodshop-1960. Shop teach was a real sadist. He ran film of poor Bob's "nosebleed" fwd/rev, fwd/rev until someone retched. Never forget it.............
Yep, I will never forget this one, saw it at Willard Jr High Santa Ana, CA back in 1987 ish. To this day I respect all those tools and kept all my fingers too. Thanks teach. Craig F
We watched this in Mr. Busby’s Jr. High (8th grade) wood shop, at J.L. Long in Dallas, in 1974. Me? I took a little bit off of top of the nail on my left index finger, on the disc sander, while making dominoes. It was *years* before all evidence of that injury disappeared. According another posting of this film on RUclips, it dates from 1954.
Wow! Thanks so much for uploading this! I'm presenting a classic psychology study by Lazarus and his colleagues (1965) in my Intro Psych class, and the researchers used this film clip to examine how cognitive appraisal of a threatening situation might "short-circuit" the stress-related response. I really wanted to find the clip last semester, but never could. But this semester, I've got it! Thanks!
As others have noted ... 1971 High School wood shop (Southfield-Lathrup SHS, Michigan) safety film (on the big screen). I have always remembered the table saw bit .... every time I fire mine or any other one up.
Notice how things go badly for Lucky Williams when he's wearing that goofy hat? Let that be a lesson to us all! I saw this several times in high school. I was probably on the vocational track because I took a lot of shop classes! This film haunted me to the point that today I mostly use hand tools in my home shop apart from a drill press and a band saw. Glad to have finally found this.
My shop teacher showed this video, then demonstrated a kick-back. There were many holes in the wall 20' behind the table saw from his demonstration over the years.
There is video that saw back in Jr. High school named “ It didn’t have to happen “ it’s about a wood shop mishaps with the wrong use of wood cutting equipment. This guy should watch this video. The video ends with wood kicking back like that. The video is on Utube.
Thank you. I saw this movie in high school and have never forgotten it.
1992 Woodshop class. I'm glad I found this one! The severed finger looked really convincing. Great makeup and effects.
I saw this in wood shop in Jr. High around 1977-78.
I never thought I'd get to see it again...
"Lucky" Williams on the rip saw. Classic!
Saw this as part of my training in 1976. We insured woodworking mills for Worker’s Compensation and performed safety inspections and training.

Yeah, no one worried about traumatizing us kids back then. Also the driving safety film "Blood on the Highway".

I used to show this film to my wood sop classes. Very graphic, but the students always remember it, even 30 years later, Bob M
I was a kid in 85 when we saw this in shop class. Somehow blood in black and white looks way goryer. Awesome.
