Bloody hell.. hasn't HTML5 been "phasing out" flash for what.. 10 years+ now?
Takes time. Flash has been the biggest piece of interactive web content since the early mid 90s to late 2000s. It was pushed to the moon by OGs like Newgrounds and even used by big businesses. Replacing all that content is going to be difficult. Especially for games. Animations, it's more of a matter of just recording to content in something like Swivel (which was developed by Newgrounds and pretty nice.)
Even still, can't replace everything.
@@Wittymations Yes I know all of that. IMO HTML5 is not and will never be a replacement for OG Flash. It's just not as powerful, nor is it as user and platform friendly.
If people hadn't been con'ed by Apple it would probably still be the dominating web platform for anything other than text, images and basic video.
@@theoriginalKland HTML5 is much more powerful, but much more complex. I haven't seen high quality 3D games in flash, yet I have in HTML5. Hmmmmmmm....
@@ow_ Because development stopped on flash. More powerful? lol Not when equally compared at flash's high point. If development had continued towards web it would have been much more powerful.
Yes, HTML5 can do a lot, but like you said, it's very complex, but it also doesn't perform the same across platforms. Flash could be learned by anyone. HTML takes a special kind of sadistic coder.
@@internet4543 lol.. so I'm guessing you've never used flash.

Note: Chromium can actually be setup to use the Google API, but it requires you to manually sign up Google API keys and set it up with your browser.
3:45 The NPAPI is maintain by Mozilla but is also becoming deprecated and it isn't supported by Chromium. The Adobe Flash Player can be downloaded in a PPAPI for Chromium/Chromium based browsers like Opera or the new Edge; with the NPAPI version for Firefox/Firefox-based browsers and the ActiveX version for Internet Explorer.
About the RUclips video compatibility, AFAIK all the videos in RUclips have been transcoded to support some of the VPx family of codecs, so any desktop browser should support them at this point. The only catch with x264 could be if you upload a video in that format, that will be transcoded for playback depending on the codec support of the device that is going to play it.
The problem is that if a video requires DRM support, probably Chromium isn't going to play it without external codecs.
I use Chrome in Windwos and Chromium in Linux, and my base system is Linux Mint. I play youtube videos in both, and never have a problem, and have never (that I know of) had to install some additional codec. I do seem to remember seeing references to those, sometimes, in the software centre, but... For the most part they both work fine straight outa the box.
Ah yes Windwos
hi, i wanna know how did u download the codec??
i want it to work when playing videos
@@maissane9674 ~ Hi there, just had to go back and read ....
Depends a little on which distro you're using. In Mint, the codecs should have been there at install. In some others (cough ~ Fedora) it's a little bit of a struggle. So I don't confuse you, which distro and which desktop are you on? Instructions for Fedora are not all that hard to find but it does get a tiny bit involved ... Mint and Ubuntu, should be dead easy.
@@Kneedragon1962 sir- with all due respect- wtf r u saying-
@@maissane9674~ [Roll eyes] Which distro are you on, and which desktop environment?
As one possible example, are you on Ubuntu with the stock (default) gnome3 desktop?
--- My reasoning, the general idea of how you get and install those codecs, is the same, but certain distros, and certain desktops, have minor variations. I am reluctant to start giving instructions like 'enter this chain of commands in a terminal', when I don't know which distro you have or which repositories you have, or which desktop you have ... The basic idea is the same, but the specific instructions may vary quite significantly.
The most complicated would probably be Arch, but if you were on Arch and needing to do yay and git, then I don't think you'd be asking me this specific question....
Fedora does have its' own specific issues, with needing to add some repos that are non-free, and then manually install some video / audio-visual and streaming stuff.
Then you have the Suse and Open Suse and Tumbleweed family, which I am not familiar with and reluctant to give instructions about...
Each Linux distro (or family of distro, children of ) has its' own package manager, and the instructions you give it are different.
Finally - Linux Mint and it's parent Ubuntu, make adding the codecs exceptionally easy. They are either installed when the operating system goes in, or they are available with one click from the Welcome screen. No messing about with terminals required.
I have a Raspi and it comes with chromium on Raspbian, and it plays RUclips pretty well, surprisingly.

The sandbox technology is what significantly reduced viruses. I've been around the internet for a while and I knew what this feature was. Sandbox is basically a virtual window. Chromium is like the villain of browsers, because most of the time its installed without you knowing it and its bundled with viruses, thats how i almost got this google account hacked and stolen, i wanted to install like an iso file for a ps2 game that i wanted to play and i downloaded this .exe file, then it asked me to install other programs like opera and avast and all that stuff so i said no because i knew viruses were bundled, but then during installation my pc started getting slow so i opened task manager and killed every task related to that program, and i was like "alright everything is fine" next thing you know 5 minutes later opera opens up, a "facebook" is added on my taskbar and the great discover virus, and i was like meh it wont do anything ill just uninstall everything. 3 weeks go by and i receive a notification "a suspicious app might have access to your google account" and i immediately upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10
5:07 This is correct, but if manually install an extension Chrome it will bring up an annoying popup every time you launch the browser. If you are going to do this then use Google Chrome Canary and you won't get that.
I actually do this for one purpose, there is an extension called UpNext that uses RUclips to play any music you want, you can create playlists in it and don't have to have a tab or separate window open for it to work. You won't find it on the web store because the way it uses RUclips is against Google's TOS. It's a hassle to manually install extensions, but it was worth it in my opinion.
It would have been nice if you had tested these features since your purporting to identify the differences. 🤦♂️

Hello there
Edge was trash. It was unusable. I used to be a Flash developer sorry to hear it's out dated now. Flash and Macromedia made the early 2000s exciting and animated!
True!
But now HTML5 can do the same but faster and safe :-)
@@igorthelight Igor I am so out of the Tech loop these days. I really don't understand how HTML"5" can do this. I used to code html in notepad. No Idea how that can now handle animation too. I am 69 and really not willing to learn anything new. It's up to you kids now. It's your ball game now. Best Html could do back in the day was color and bold fonts. Layers (Dreamweaver) added some flavour and spiced up websites. People aren't animating in html are they? They are still using apps for that aren't they? Can't imagine they are animating in notebook. What are you using for content creation? Thing with Flash was it was not only an animation and drawing tool, but with action script it was interactive too. Flash graphics were scalable without loss of pixels or definition. They were vector not pixel based.
And not sure about safer. Back in the day we didn't have to worry about the NSA and CIA. Back then our country didn't spy on us.
What's the "Dreamweaver" of html5? Just curious. What are you using now?
isn't HTML5 a set of arbitrary code execution exploits that became official?
