“They have caged Shadowkiller”
"We come"
Oh man that part was just awesome
Goosebumps every time!
"Kneel and swear to the Lord Dragon, or you will be knelt."
This guy is like the Bob Ross of fantasy battle illustration. "So I'm gonna take my two-inch brush, and just put a happy little dire wolf right here. He's probably thinkin' about, oh, I dunno, rending the flesh from the bones of his enemies. That'd be reaaaaaaaaaal nice. You can make that wolf as dire as you like - it's your painting."
"Ashaman...kill" > "Avengers...assemble.
As a painter, I'm humbled. As a wot reader, I'm fucking breathless. This is so EPIC. Cool that youtube has such a substantial wot community though. If he were to include Rand breaking out of the box, I don't think I could handle it.
I said six could come, but I count nine. I said you would be on equal footing with the White Tower emissaries, and for bringing nine you will be. They are on their knees, Aes Sedai. KNEEL!
I just finished this book an hour or so ago. I got SO MANY CHILLS THE ENTIRE LAST SCENE. That line was especially incredible.
This was one of the most intense parts of the whole series. I remember having to put the the book down for a minute to let it sink in lol.
"They will pay. I am the Lord of the Morning."
This was such an amazing moment during the story and my heart cried for the world and the terrible power that Rand's Black Tower was about to unleash upon every battlefield that they laid their feet on. it was such a bitter bitter moment and i think this is when the series pivoted to a "no holds barred" sort of battles and the first warning shocks of the final battle began. the moment when he called "Asha'men KILL!" my bones chilled instantly.
The series does a superb job of conditioning the reader to a mindset of its world... In another series, Dumai's Wells would be simply awesome. But in WoT it's also terrifying and deeply ominous, because you are thinking of the consequences of the Ashaman for the world.
@@JanneSala Absolutely, I was so happy for the Black tower in the final book when Logain turned away from power to save lives. Manly tears as he said "The black tower protects, Always".
@@ActionBob best arc in the book really. they start as mere weapons, poisoned to death when the taint grew too much for them and in the end they found their place as protectors.
its fascinating the witness the change in the narrator's (Michael Kramer) voice as he faithfully narrates the whole series. I am of the opinion that his voice was better when he was younger although even now he's my favorite narrator.
Oh Michael Kramer & Kate Reading.. you make this series all the more awesome.
I get a shiver down my spine when it gets to the last part where he says "the world was changed forever" every time.
This battle is just asking to be filmed.
And now it is
I hope they include all the gore
Best scene from the series
"... Let the Lord of Chaos rule!"
One of the best scenes in the Series! Great video.
i agree. i'm 1/2-way through book ten and this scene is still my favorite... where you finally see the asha'man kicking some serious ass.
The pulp art style is AMAZING!!!!
One of my favorite paintings. It also gives me the idea to paint in a "wide screen" format, allowing me to capture more action and story.
A true master! I'm glad I got a chance to see him work back in 1992 at Portfolio Center. Amazing career!
oh my god... this was glorious... it gave me chills! What is that music! It's PERFECT! This is exactly--EXACTLY--as I'd imagined the battle at dumai's wells!!!
the only thing (to me) is i imagined the Aiel being MUCH more tightly packed becuase there were thousonds of them trying to get in the fight
Cody Archer I think it's because it'd be difficult to show both Perrin's battle and the Asha'man in one picture without reducing the number of the several thousand Shaido around them.
This is really awesome! Recreated the real "chaotic" feel of the scene! Terrific! Aiel, Ashamans... just totally awesome!!!!
This was the best battle in my opinion the Ashamen where epic and showed just how deadly they were
I'm on Winter's Heart at the moment but I have to say Lord of Chaos is my favourite book so far
The Shaido bring it on themselves but they really do get punished repeatedly throughout this series.
I could watch this video an unlimited amount of times
"Have I not painted well, Great Lord?"
That is an awesome painting.
I know this is unlikely to be read on a video this old, but is there any way people could buy a print of this painting? It's amazing.
Just to let you know that I read your comment in 2022. :)
@@Stationary76 same
I just read it in July 2022 and with the new WOT tv series ( No matter how bad the first season was!) There is sure to be lots more interest in these type s of paintings again!!
Fantastic job !
Wow !
Oh man. Greg Manchess is made of win. At least he uses a line drawing - if he'd just torn in and made the painting on the fly, I don't know what I'd do with myself, lol.
I can't help but hope that the broken tower bowing to the ancient symbol is a symbol in itself. That the Aes Sedai can go from being a tower of manipulators to a united union of saidin and saidar for the purpose of being servants of all.
Im sorry, but if I was one of those Shaido I would of said Fml and ran like hell knowing we had just gotten fucked. Though, that is not they way of any Aiel, still...They got screwed at Dumai's Wells. And this painting brings it more to life than what my mind did. When I read it it was all just a conglomeration if troops within a low bowl like valley getting killed and such, but this...This is just...Epic.
Wow! Just Wow!
Can't wait for this scene in the adaptation. Hope they don't screw it up.
Possibly my favourite scene so far from the book up until now, would really love to get a print of such a picture, cant seem to find them for sale anywhere unfortunatley. Amazing all the same though, it was a great read and seeing the painting adds alot to it
....i gotta read this book
Great video. Always dizzying to watch Manchess paint.
Very good work. Thanks for sharing. I hope your work will be available when a movie or series begins. Or an illustrated book. I would definitely buy your works of art.
Dude, it's not over yet; Tarmon Gai'don comes january 8!
Did you like it?
Beautiful
Waaay better than the original Lord of Chaos cover.
The original is so awful; it looked like a badly-done cheesy romance cover.
I NEED A 1:1 SIZE COPY OF THAT ON MY WALL!!!
Not exactly the way I pictured it, but I got goose bumps none the less. Where is Perrin's Beard? Loial looks a little small as well. The Asha'man are perfect though.
little bit o' titanium white, not too much, just a little, put it riiight there, hello happy dire wolf.
bob ross wishes he was this fucking cool.
"They've caged Shadow Killer."
I really want an Ashaman coat! :)
La batalla en los pozos es dura y cruel... Alcanza a la imaginación y va más allá
WOW ! Fantastic !
no, Rand is in his box and Martrim isn't even there. he's in ebo-dar
(narration not in chronological order)
amazing
yes, yes you do...
OMFG make a poster of that painting
AWESOME!!
Bellissimo video della Progressione dell'opera....
awesome!!!!
well done!!!!
can we buy this picture ?????????
Kneel and swear to the Lord Dragon, or you will be knelt.
@mortenlu ABSOLUTELY!!! I want one too :O
@HatedSovietLion Mat wasn't in the battle, and Rand would be behind the Asha'man, so he's not within sight.
@HatedSovietLion I don't think Mat was even in this battle (correct me if I'm wrong), but no, it doesn't show the circle of wagons where Rand Min and Taim were. It would have been awesome if he would've painted Rand breaking free of that chest.
“Asha men, kill”.
At this point, all my shits were gone!!!!
I have to say, I never cared that much for Dumais Wells. I loved the Stand at Emmonds Field, or the Assault on the royal palace of Caemlyn, I liked the Battle for Cairhien and the Attack on Cold Rocks Hold. But this video really turned me around. It's up there with the others I mentioned, for sure. And with later stuff, the Last Charge at Tarwins Gap, the beginning of Mats campaign in Altara, the Battle at Shadar Logoth...
Hey guys just winder that what medium he used? acrylic? Damn, it's just amazing
why is this not the guy they use for the book covers? the artist they use for those just doesn't stand up to this guy at all
The music sounds like Age of Empires 2. That is an awesome painting by the way. What kind of paint was used??
I would give a nut to be that talented.
@unitylovefamily They cant differentiate between male and female, well not easily anyway is what is stated in the book, I just finished lord of chaos and it doesnt mention them being unable to differentiate two legs nor do any of the books before, so unless you read it in a book after lord of chaos im guessing they can
How come the Aiel do not have bucklers?
@judahstarguy2 I agree, and hope so too. "Servants of All", my ass. Far from every Aes Sedai in recent times do anything for the sake of others, instead serving their own schemes and ambitions.
looks so simple, yet it ís so damn hard :(
Is this the only one they filmed? It would be awesome to get one for each book.
are there any more paintings for the series by the same artist?
the narrirator sounds like mr. smith from the matrix
THUMBS UP TO NO DISLIKES!!
Wheel of time anime illistrated by Bob Ross
what medium do you use?
Compared to this, my art is crap.
Can you watch this and not get chills?
