Certain sections of Tarmon Gaidan that I won't disclose because of spoilers. Spoilers: When everything seems lost and Mat gathers the remaining forces of the lands. They make a point to say that borders don't seem to matter anymore and they go for an all out attack. Or when Lan rides towards Demandred and the Two Rivers men clear his path with their insane archery abilities
You said rand killing A warder while trying to escape, tha'ts wrong, he killed 2 from the same green sister, one with his bare hands and another with the first one's sword after the aessedai started beating min as well to make him submit.
If someone hasn’t listened to the audiobooks version they’re no true fans. The performance is so impressive that’s its tantamount to a tv adaptation, only it doesn’t cut anything.
I also love Taim's words 'Kneel, and swear to the Dragon Reborn, or you will be knelt!'. The first time a man outside of the Aiel made a threat to the Aes Sedai, and it terrifies them.
One extra detail I really like about the sequence of events leading up to Rand's capture is that the Aes Sedai have been purposely doing intensive channeling every day since their arrival in Cairhien. This meant nobody would question the intensive channeling required to maintain Rand's shield. I love how RJ thinks of these plot holes and finds a way to close them. The battle itself is definitely one of my favourite moments in the series.
I was about to mention this myself before I thought "better check to make sure no one else has brought this up." I had just finished rereading LoC an hour ago, & I'm still on a high from this fight.
Dumai's Wells is my favorite sequence in the entire WoT series, and is the sole reason Lord of Chaos is my favorite (and most frequently re-read) entry in the series. I can't even really articulate why (at least not off the top of my head), there's just something incredibly satisfying about it.
Yeah I noticed this as well especially after we get a short POV from Sorilea after Rand is captured and is walking past the palace they were keeping him in. She comments on feeling them channel strongly but doesn’t find it weird since they’ve been doing it since they arrived.
The best part about the wolves, Perrin didn’t actually bring them. They asked him why he had them tracking the Aes Sendai, and he told them, “they have shadowkiller.” The wolves reaction was “we come.” When I got to that point, I got goosebumps!
I just wish it would have been a little sooner. Got sick of the girl chapters in the middle seemed to really slog. The ending was great but parts of this one took awhile to get through.
When the show airs, they need to get these battles done correctly. We cannot afford half measures. I have a feeling the ability of RJ to write these scenes has got to be screenplay gold. No need to mess with it.
The problem with adapting such a scene is the budgetary constraints. Rendering this battle accurately, despite its relatively small scale compared to some others, would probably use up the vast majority of the show's budget for the season it airs. Or it will look cheap, which is its own problem.
I think the issue is making it live-action to begin with. This isnt Lord of the Rings you cant just have a journey in some beautiful locations and occasional grand sets and battles. There are entire nations at work in Wheel of Time, and the scale is too massive to do properly IRL. Not to mention Amazon will probably force feed some political agenda or some garbage instead of focusing on the source material. It needs to be animated, plain and simple.
The bigger problem will be that if these battles are done correctly, the show will be hard M/A. If they don’t show people getting ripped to pieces, absolutely destroyed to atoms with guts and blood flowing and no way of hiding or making it stop, it doesn’t really give a sense of why the Shaido ran. That kind of helplessness and brutality is not often seen in any major TV adaptations, since it turns off viewers. It’s a lot different to see it happen to “real” humans, than to just read about it.
@@jusatin You have a point, but I'm hoping Amazon will make this mature. I think we have a good chance of that considering we have been told there will be nudity and probably sex. We have a chance they will do the battles some justice. Granted, what you say is valid and concerning. Hopefully the budget will remain high and grow as needed.
I love how, until this point, I took the lack of using the One Power as a direct weapon for granted. It didn't seem like a big deal in a fantasy setting for the Aes Sedai to have such an aversion to it. But once the Asha'man are unleashed it gave me chills. RJ showed just how horrifying the Power could truly be and exactly why everyone was terrified of channelers.
The battle of maradon is the most underrated one in the series. A losing battle turning into guerilla urban warfare. Finished by one man coming in and squashing the biggest army seen at that point. I hope you get around to doing that one.
Yes! Ituralde is such a presence in that battle, and the combat is unlike anything else we get in Randland (with the possible exception of the Battle of Caemlyn)
Frankly the simple calm utterance by Taim "Asha'man ... Kill !!" this when I read it became the single most terrifying utterance, shiver up the spine thing to occur
One minor correction: Min was not in the room at time of Rand's capture, he noted his annoyance over the fact, i believe it was implied she was captured some time on her way back from wise ones' tents
Yeah she went missing somewhere between the Wise One's tents and the palace, which had Sorilea in a tizzy over the inexplicable "coincidence" of both Min and Rand disappearing at the same time.
I really want to see the battle with Couladin. Mat referring to it only by thinking in flashback leaves me wanting to see the battle and the one before that which formed the basis for beginning of the Band of the Red Hand.
This is one of my favorite battles within the wheel of Time for all the reasons that you mentioned and more. I can't really add more to that but it was very satisfying to see the power of the Asha'man as well as seeing so many of the Aes Sedai I being humbled. For too long the Aes sedai had sat at the top of the pecking order. Their arrogance was insufferable it was time for them to know fear. If the Asha'man had wanted to that they could have destroyed the entire White tower by simply traveling there and collapsing it in an earthquake. They are very lucky Rand was sane enough not to make a counter attack to exterminate every Ais Sedai in the White tower.
another favorite battle scene for me would be when perrin & his forces attack the massive shaido-camp to rescue faile, with tallanvor rescueing queen morgase from tht caved in building & the romance between them.both of them have 'one man army' thing going on, not giving a F who stands between them & their loved ones and moving alone through enemy lines with unleashed fury

The "blender" was insane. In the later books we see some very powerful and refined spell, but nothing is scary as this one. It was simply the perfect way for RJ to deliver his messages.
I really enjoyed watching this video. Thank you. This is not technically a battle, but an analysis of (for no spoilers' sake) the end of Winter's Heart would be great to watch.
Dumai's Wells stands above every other epic battle. The build up and execution made the battle 'edge-of-your-seat' stuff, which is all too rarely achieved in written form. If it was the same world as the Malazan's Rand would have Ascended at that point.
the greatest part for me of Dumais Wells is throught the entire novel you are thinking the title “Lord of Chaos” refers to the Big Bad, just a generic name, whatever title, then you reach end of the book and realize its referring to Rand. Rand is the Lord of Chaos. What a brilliant, creative mind Robert Jordan was
I loved the line "Asha'man rest!". I just finished the book, so I don't know if this is true, but it feels very much like the asha'man and Taim are embracing their identity - that was given to them by Rand - of being a weapon. They don't "stop" like Rand asked, they just rest.

@@unintentionallydramatic you don't have the authority to demand that I take anything anywhere. I guess I'll have to 'be knelt', as you like to put it.
Excellent. ACoS post Dumai's Wells analysis of the first seven chapters would be great, too. Please do the battle of Emonds Field where the Blood of Menetheren history repeats itself from Moiraine's story in tEotW.
Literally just re-listened to this battle today. Daniel, you're a god damn psychic. Also great video as usual. Your analysis and production value just keep getting better while remaining pleasantly unique and simple.
This is the battle that really cemented my admiration for this series. In my opinion it showcased Jordan’s ability to write a truly brutal battle. Awesome video man.
This battle was epic! When I was reading through the series again, i found myself looking forward to this battle. IMO, the whole story has been building up to this battle. It really tips the scales of the series and adds the gravity of "the dragon is reborn" to the world. And it was done masterfully!
This reminds me of when I had just finished tFoH (the first time) back in 2003 or so. My car was in the shop so I walked a few blocks to a local comic book shop hoping they would have a few WoT books or something would be there. I asked, and he had 1 used WoT paperback; it just came in so it wasn’t even shelved yet. Luckily, it just happened to be Lord of Chaos! Exactly the book I was looking for. The wheel weaves as the wheel wills.
This battle was the point where things get real and you realize lots of people are going to die before Tarmon Gaidon. It changes Rand Al'thor for a lot of the series.
The final battle! It's so big and complex on so many levels. Or the cleansing of the male power and peripheral events (not a battle, but awesome). Also, top notch video quality, in all the ways that it could be assessed. KEEP IT UP!
I actually just finished book 6 last night due to your suggestions on reading wheel of time and I really enjoyed this video, and would look forward to more like it in the future!
I love how often this battle is referenced throughout pretty much the rest of the series. Among other things, it did indeed give Rand--and Lews Therin--a mental beatdown (i.e. THE BOX). Also, that time when Rand and Lews Therin worked together to break out of that box... Priceless.
Well done, reliving it from your take was great, this is one of my favorite battles all time and who didn't love how crown of swords started from the Shaido viewpoint?
Fantastically entertaining content. I also read his series a couple of decades ago and really liked it. I slogged through several of the middle books when I was sure Robert Jordan had lost his mind and was thrilled when Brandon Sanderson completed the series in such high fashion. I was sorry for each of his books to end and loved how he tied up story lines and climaxed at the last battle. You are doing great work. Hope you don't burn out. Good luck.
I love many of the battles in WOT but Dumai's Wells is so special. I remember, the 1st time, reading the beatings Rand was receiving and being so angry with the White Tower. I had to go to work though, and wait before I could read the rest. Pure satisfaction in the end!!
Keep the content coming in wheel of time coming and you can count on me watching as long as jack of the shadows doesn’t take me. Read these books 25 years ago and great to see them still relevant.
Keep it up! I'd love to see you do: The Battle of Falme The battle that Itlrodle (spelling) commanded in one of the last three books. Where Rand sent him to hold the city for as long as possible. A massive milti-part episode on Tarmon'Gaidon
Corrections: Berelain didn't lead her warriors, she stayed behind. IT WAS 1000 WOLVES! Not 100. This was huge for me. Picturing 1000 wolves running into battle is so metal, and is a large reason why I love this battle. It is up there with The Battle of Five Armies for me. Edit: I hope this didn't sound condescending. You have forgotten more about wheel of time than I currently know. I just picked these out because I just finished the chapter for the third time today before watching this.
Damn Daniel. I’ve watched plenty of your videos, but this one is on another level. The narration, images, and especially the music…this gave me shivers… Well done!
That was a really helpful video, there's so much going on in this sequence, that I get lost (despite having read it multiple times). This breakdown was really good. More, please!
I just finished Lord of Chaos for the first time a few minutes ago. I knew it before, but now it’s confirmed: these stories are going to be a part of my life forever. This is the best video you’ve made yet. More battle analysis please!
Thank you so much for this Daniel. I’m preparing to write my first ever battle scene, and Dumai’s wells has been such a great research. This analysis only expands on that.
Great video. Thank you! It's been years and years now since I've listened to the audiobooks (up to 10, I think?) I was just scrolling through the Internet and saw the brutality of this battle mentioned. You immediately brought me back to the experience of hearing it for the first time. Thank you!
I also like that part where Aes Sedai from Salidar who exposed themselves to danger in order to join the fight to get to rand. I remember reading that part and thought it to be so cool- a real battle Aja introduction for me.
I love when the massive army of Trollocs and Fades tries to ambush Rand and co. at some manor house, and Rand basically uses the Power to make his hands into gatling guns, while also throwing out explosions and portals that kill anything that go into them.
I very much enjoyed your discussion of Dumai's Wells. I hope you can find the time and motivation to post similar treatments of the battles at the Two Rivers, Falme, and Cairhien.
Wow, that was so good, I watched it twice and I never do that... The scenes, the motions it all came back from the books. Perrin To the Wolves: "They have caged Shadow Killer." Wolves to Perrin: "...We Come!"
I also like the end. Where Jordan describes that rumors and stories go through the land. All of them different and some almost completely wrong from countless retelling. But that they all have one specific detail correct. The most incredulous one. Aes Sedai swearing fealty to the Dragon Reborn.
Sick recap! Just read the battle last night and wanted to relive it. This was perfect. You should do the battle at the end of Fires of Heaven. I honestly got a little lost during it, so much going on.
I loved this battle... the neat grinder and Rand's fury. Not crazy about the little spider clip, chess pieces, and other things that brought me out of the fantasy genre battle I had playing in my mind.
I am going to nitpick a little bit. 1- Rand Killed two warders with his bare hands, both belonged to the same Sister. 2-Galina was head of the party and she had all the sisters taking terns beating Rand after the one with the dead warders refused to do it any more, Galina was also black Aja(man my spelling sucks). This battle sunk Rand into deeper madness and I believe is when he first started hearing Lews voice in his head, it massively added to Rand's distrust of the sisters-also key to point out that Morraine is out of the picture at this time so he had no voice he trusted from the sisters. Alanna was bonded to Rand and could feel his beatings Egwene used this to sew seeds against Elaida while she was a guest of the tower and was one of the strongest reasons for her gaining support to heal the tower. The Ashaman are awesome Good video-could you do the battle where Perrin ends up getting the Children of the Light to fight under his banner?
Nope, Rand began hearing Lews Therin in his head from book 5, and it became a much more regular thing throughout book 6, it increased during Dumai's Wells only because he was surrounded by Aes Sedai. Rand didn't kill 2 warders with his bare hands, he killed one and used that warders sword to kill the second. Rand didn't exactly trust Moiraine. Not until she kinda became his bitch in book 5 because she was scared she was going to die before she could sufficiently help him. Also, watch the spoilers for the Egwene bit. This video is only for spoilers until the end of book 6.
Excellent, loved it. Makes me want to read all the books again. Battles to do; One of my personal favorites. spoiler alert.... When Rand infiltrates the Heart of the Stone in Tear and takes Callandor with Aeil and Tear soldiers fighting all around him. This is the no doubt about it prophesy fulfilled, he is the Dragon. Not only to the world, but most importantly, to himself. Gives me goosebumps every time I read it.

Winters Heart can drag a bit, but if you can make it to the end, it’s a great ending
@@AngryGoats555 probably gonna be the same as how I felt through Crown of Swords by the way you are describing
@@gabrieltoscano8480 oh but much better
The last three books will knock your socks off.
The battle in two rivers was epic, I have a love hate with Perrin. This is a love moment

See ya.
It's been over 10 years since I first read those words. "Asha'man. Kill" it still sends shivers down my spine
Such a badass battle.
Just finished reading lord of chaos for first time.... I’m shook. Can’t wait for some day when this is put on a screen.
What the heck , i finished Lord of Chaos yesterday,,,, that sort of impeccable timing warrants a sub.
KEEP IT UP!
I loved it when Rand kills two wardens with his bare hands. That’s going to be a great moment in tv. Also very romantic
I actually just finished book 6 last night due to your suggestions on reading wheel of time and I really enjoyed this video, and would look forward to more like it in the future!
"Asha'man, RELEASE!"
Still gives me goosebumps
I love how often this battle is referenced throughout pretty much the rest of the series. Among other things, it did indeed give Rand--and Lews Therin--a mental beatdown (i.e. THE BOX). Also, that time when Rand and Lews Therin worked together to break out of that box... Priceless.
Well done, reliving it from your take was great, this is one of my favorite battles all time and who didn't love how crown of swords started from the Shaido viewpoint?
This is THE moment that stands out to me more than any other in the entire series. A truly amazing eruption of power and change.
Good luck.
Min was not in that room. She had been kidnapped previously. I love your vids. Keep them up!
I could never reread the entire series, I don't think I ever could or have the time to. I'm glad I can relive it through your descriptions.
Thanks for retelling that in a timely, crisp manner.
The way and depth this sequence was written (and explained in this video) gives me chills even now.
Asha'man, dance!
*beginning of the biggest dance-off in the history of Randland*
Keep it up!
I'd love to see you do:
The Battle of Falme
The battle that Itlrodle (spelling) commanded in one of the last three books. Where Rand sent him to hold the city for as long as possible.
A massive milti-part episode on Tarmon'Gaidon
When Perrin said “Come” and the wolves came out of no where it gave me chills
Corrections: Berelain didn't lead her warriors, she stayed behind.
IT WAS 1000 WOLVES! Not 100. This was huge for me. Picturing 1000 wolves running into battle is so metal, and is a large reason why I love this battle. It is up there with The Battle of Five Armies for me.
Edit: I hope this didn't sound condescending. You have forgotten more about wheel of time than I currently know. I just picked these out because I just finished the chapter for the third time today before watching this.
Kneel and swear to the Lord Dragon, or you will be knelt.
Amazing commentary! This series has literally changed my life. I have read and reread this series to the point of being fanatically obsessed! 🤷♂️
I just finished this book and was absolutely blown away. Fantastic scene.
Thank you. I just finished that book and this video helps me to undrestand it better
I literally cry every time I read, listen to, or hear reviews of this battle. EXTREMELY powerful and emotional.
Thank you for the amazing review!
Damn Daniel. I’ve watched plenty of your videos, but this one is on another level. The narration, images, and especially the music…this gave me shivers…
Well done!
Awesome analysis! you should do the one at the end of Words of Radiance
Ituralde vs Seanchan would be nice 😁
He did fight some battles and skirmishes on Almoth Plain. His defense of Maradon was totally awesome though.
That was a really helpful video, there's so much going on in this sequence, that I get lost (despite having read it multiple times). This breakdown was really good. More, please!
Simply amazing analyzation of Dumais Wells. Great video D.G!!!
Damn, I was getting shivers as you described the battle! Seriously cannot wait to see this on the screen!!
This will be so epic on the show. Not so much the battle itself but the scenes leading up to it and the aftermath.
*"Rolling ring of earth and fire!"*
If someone who had not heard of WoT before just happned upon this video, they would get chills as I do for sure.
I love when the massive army of Trollocs and Fades tries to ambush Rand and co. at some manor house, and Rand basically uses the Power to make his hands into gatling guns, while also throwing out explosions and portals that kill anything that go into them.
That picture of a line of black coats... Just wow!
That was a GREAT synopsis. You reminded me why this is one of my favorite scenes of the whole series. Ready to sit down and read it again.
The first time I read this I reread it 3 times because it was just that good.
Loved that Battle. 100% brutal! Fingers crossed that the TV show has the budget to do that scene justice.
Best battle in the wheel of time
I have goosebumps everytime I listen to this
I just finished reading Lord of Chaos and Dumai Wells is one of the best battle I’ve ever read!
Alanna was bonded to Rand and could feel his beatings
Egwene used this to sew seeds against Elaida while she was a guest of the tower and was one of the strongest reasons for her gaining support to heal the tower.
The Ashaman are awesome
Good video-could you do the battle where Perrin ends up getting the Children of the Light to fight under his banner?
O man, so many good points. Gotta keep it around 11 min I imagine. Galad is something else.
I thought it was the first time he had a conversation with Lews
Also don’t forget that he instantly stilled 3 Aes Sedai when he broke free!
Rand had already been hearing LTT's voice but this was the first time he accepted the voice as an actual person and conversed with it.
Excellent entertaining and informative analysis. Enjoyable thanks for sharing.
Great video. I saw this when originally released but came back for a rewatch. Would love to see battle of maradon!
The most anticipated battle in the wheel of time TV show.
Amazing video. I get chills remembering reading this for the first time.
We come.
*literal chills*
Thank Daniel. I pace out the rate at which I watch your vidoes, or I'll burn through them. I know you're trying to make a go of this channel, but still. I'm amazed someone is out there making them. Thanks.
I havn't read this in ten years. My, "To be read pile." is taller than me. I can't go back, and read the series again.
Really love your content. I was excited to hear your thoughts as you analyzed this, but it was more like a summary. Give us some more of that good ole Daniel Green commentary next time!
This may be the video that gets me to reread the entire 14 book epic.
I would love one of these for the other battles in the series (and especially for the last battle). Great job!
By far the best battle!!
Awesome video, would love to see more of these videos.
