The user guide for the Z primes says we can manually focus with the main lens ring when the camera is set to A and the function assignment of the ring wasn't altered. Set to M, the main lens ring should always focus.
I didn’t even think about going into custom controls, because literally ever lens I’ve ever bought EVEN ON THIS VERY CAMERA. Z8. The Z9 Z5 Z6ii Z7ii Z6 ZFc. And every lens I own on ALL of them. I have never had to do this. This is the first lens ever that out of the box, TWICE, the manual focus ring was turned off. So in Manual it would focus, but with switch set to Auto, the ring was set to do nothing. That is either the only lens so far that Nikon doesn’t have programmed to Manual focus over ride, or I’ve witnessed the most insane series of coincidences ever lol Thanks for your response. It prompted me to check out the settings that I didn’t even know was necessary to look at
@@ZWadePhoto Good idea. Once, in the 80s, I bought a Pentax SF1n that malfunctioned on me, which wasn't B&H's fault at all, but they replaced it immediately, no questions asked. I've always said that B&H runs a business the way a business should be run. Honesty, integrity, and great prices.
Thought I was the only one that keeps all packing materials meticulously archived for all of time. Feeling better about myself now 😆📷📦 Curious about this 24, never considered it because I have the 20, 26, and 24-120 4. Will keep an eye out for field test review. Thanks!
Youre not alone! I have always kept original packing materials. I guess it goes back to my early wannabe Audiophile days. Kept the boxes should it need to be sent off for warranty/ service, etc. Peace
@ 01:12 “Keep everything guys!” A Man after my own heart, ZWADE ZEE Wade 😊 Ask my poor Wife, I’m a box hoarder. We’re in good company, csc-photo! 😆👍 Congrats on the new lens purchase. Good lens. I would prefer the 20, and am in full agreement on the size. Thom Hogan even questioned why Nikon made the 20mm so large. In fact, wazzup with all of the ‘s” prime lens line up Nikon?! So was the situation with MPB resolved? Take care
Nikon want us to switch the camera off before we swap lenses because the switching off locks the lenses internals. If we do not do that then I can imagine you can make the rattle. Of something is defect.
@@jpdj2715 Well the Z is for Zach and I happen to shoot Z mount, but Nikon scares me like that again I may embrace RWade. 😜😜😜😜 I bet canon would love me Nikon don’t play wit me
Separately, I do think the 24mm is one of the more underrated Z lenses. I love it for environmental portraits. Far sharper than the 28mm 2.8 and a little easier to compose with than the 20mm. (BTW Nikon, why don’t we have a 28mm 1.8 yet?)

I've been dealing with B&H since the mid 80s, and not once have I ever had a problem.
Yea I’m not Messing with anyone else but B&H from here on

B&H rocks! Wished they had never made the switch to FedWrex!

There are so many lenses... I have the Nikon Z f with the 40mm f/2.0 and got a 24-70mm/f4.0 for 350€ used. I think I'm set for my use case ahah
That’s a good deal you got 🙌

I definitely prefer the 20. But I need the 20 AND the 24 for video in future content. 2 angles y’all 😜
@@ZWadePhoto You gotta do what ya gotta do. I understand. I have not tested out the 24, but form what I’ve heard its a good piece of kit.
I just buy gear to annoy my wife and I am on the brink of a divorce.
I think I am gonna buy some Carl Zeiss lenses tomorrow. 😅😅😅
What’s that American Country song….”I’m gonna miss her”
Lol
Wow 😂
@@ZWadePhoto Yeah 😆
An older lens in the lineup and quite a boring one imo. I have the 20mm F1.8 and it's a noticeable jump in FOV without that much distortion penalty
The 20 is definitely better in pretty much every way. I got this for video and it’s proving to be a great choice in that regard
@@ZWadePhoto I went 20/30 for z9 crop but 24/36 is pretty classic too. Enjoy!
Why is a 1.8 so huge???
They all are. I’ve been trying to dispel the idea that mirrorless = smaller and lighter since they launched lol
I've never tried the f 1.8 z but I do know that the f1.8g on the ftz looks and feels smaller then the images I've seen of the 50 F1.8.
MPB again!
What is going on over there? Aren't they supposed to test the lens, before they even post them for sale?
I’ve had 2 of these. Sent one back to MPB, and bought brand new from B&H
Fun fact about MPB…. First Z6ii I bought from them was a grey market EU model…

I've never heard of a Nikon lens that didn't have manual override. You might have a dud.
No way. You should go back and watch the original unboxing of another lens just like it.
Yeah, manual focus override should definitely work. Saw the video and just ran to test my copy of the 24mm; works perfectly on my Z7ii.
