Man a couple years ago I met you in a comment section, and saw the moon, never heard leviathan really before but after that I check out jefs stuff and after those years there's no other project/music I ended up loving more got the moon on my arm now, in a funny way you helped me find my favorite music so thank you.
Inu No Taisho I discovered Leviathan back in 2005 with the album The Tenth Level of Suicide after asking for suggestions on depressive Black Metal. I don’t listen to a lot of other Metal these days but Jef Whitehead remains one of my favorite musicians. In response to OP: he indeed is talented in a way that few people are and that’s not something I’d say lightly. He captures depression and inner turmoil in a way that nobody else does and his music has helped me through some really dark times in my life.
One Hundred Percent, tenth sub level, and MCAAP, the original tenth sub level demo are some of my top leviathan records, but really all of his stuff is amazing especially LOC self titled album
@@NefariousStyx666 basically the entire song is an earlier version of vortex chalice. even the opening riff is a slowed down version of the first riff (about 1 minute through) in vortex
Jeff Whitehead thank you for musical abilities of ambient. This may yet be the pillar of his thoughts, emotions and subconscious mind; portrayed in darkened light. His music is so potent, anyone who's not into this will have an effect on them. Those that does dwell into depth of bottomless abysses of music, will be in utter awe. Wrest, long may he reign!
Hey man. I hope you're alright.. longtime sufferer from mental illness here.. I highly suggest looking up "Isha Kriya" by the Isha Foundation. It's a simple 12 minute meditation.. If you do it once to twice a day, you will create a gap between yourself and your thoughts. When this happens, your depression will collapse the more detatched from your mind you become. I assure you it will help massively. You are in control. You are the maker of your own destiny. May willpower be with you 🙏
I've been waiting years for this, going to order it tonight! X sounds like the first version or perhaps the spiritual predecessor to Vortex Chalice, my absolute favorite LoC song. I have a lot of strong emotions connected to that song from emotional points in my life. Interestingly, the dark, somber, and despondent sounds gave me great solace when facing times of great emotional unrest. Thank you for this.
Didn't note this material, although I dig Leviathan many years ago. This could be perfectly a good 2020 album, no one will notice that has 15 or more years old. At the other hand, this was extremely rare back in the first decade.
@@Fenriz1222 Its is a collection of demos that he has been edited, collages and compiled to be a coherent release. So it is earlier stuff but he's made feel like one coherent album.
Thanks, I just discovered this album. I was waiting to hear more from him, further to self-titled album (I have my cd close to those from Leviathan and Aoratos).
no it isnt at all. This existed long before he did anything with Twilight he just hasnt released all of L.O.C.'s stuff until now on this compilation and im sure this isnt all of it either

@@MusicOfDestruction I think you misunderstand. Sure, he might have this recorded before Twilight was a thing, but that can still mean he used it for that project later, when this edition wasn't released until 2020. Also "V" is basically the same riff and structure as the ending of Leviathan's "The Smoke of their Torment", just in a different tuning. And don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming him for re-using old ideas in other projects (I am guilty of the same). I just think it's great to hear the genesis of how these riffs and ideas started on this release
This has a bit of alt rock influence. Never thought I would think Wrest would have that in his songwriting. Really good album, like a long awaited sequel.
I miss a universal banger like "Piercing where they might". This comes off as more experimental. Not a bad thing by the way, just not exactly what i was hoping for.

I've never heard anyone make ambient music like Wrest does. It's atmospheric, but it has really memorable songwriting too. Unrivaled.

V is the same riff from the spoken word segment at the end of Smoke of their Torment. Very cool to see how long this riff has been around.
Doesn't seem to be 100% the same, but it's extremely similar and it does a great job
@@SatanicWarbringer Yeah it’s definitely different, but it’s the same underlying motif. Perhaps I should’ve been more specific in my origina comment.
The riff in X at timestamp 50:51 also reminds me of the one near the end of Vortex Chalice.

I've always preferred the more depressive Lurker style over Leviathan. Thanks for bringing us yet another masterpiece Jef!!!

so is this re-recodings of demos or just cleaned up a bit? I've only previously heard the main lurker release.
