I just rode this route today and in this video these guys are finding god like flow through these rock gardens! The ridge line trails are hiking trails. I found some wins amongst the chaotic lay of those rocks but overall the rocks won. Oh and the climb up to the ridge was the hardest climb I ever attempted and the most I walked in awhile. Brian you were a beast in this video! (Puzzler is now top favorite of mine on the East coast)
Have been living in Colorado for 15 years now. Owned a house at Massanutten before that. My son and grand kids live just outside of "The Nutt" and now I have a lil slice of property just below waiting for me to build a retirement pad on. I've been really stoked to see the trails progressing there. (I get back every summer). I think I know that 80yr old...he rode across the US with me 10 years ago!
Brian!!! Super excited to see you're biking in my home turf, and close to my place of work. Virginia is definitely known for pretty good biking trails. You have already ridden one of my favorite places, Carvins Cove. While you're in the area, please consider taking an hour trip south to Clifton Forge, and check out Douthat state park, specifically brushy hollow trail, as well as taking a look at the stunning view from the Tuscarora Cabin on the western side. Anyway, love your videos, keep it up, and ride until the wheels fall off 😊.
One of my first thoughts on the way home after riding this loop was "There should be a medal for riding this". I rode this yesterday and the downhill on Kaylors felt heroic...Puzzler also felt that way. When I was riding I kept thinking "how is this possible to ride this" but my friend got through so I focused and went for each section. I was in survival mode for bike and body.
I love that the Google AI thinks your downhill section is people clapping, with the sounds of tires rolling over dirt, the closed caption just says “applause” 😂
Hey, looking for some advice for riding in the area. I am interested in western slope, bird knob/Catherine furnace, signal knob/meneka peak, big schloss, opa loop. I’ll be staying in Orkney springs. Any advice? What route do you recommend at the western slope (the one I’ve been checking out is the perimeter 2020)?
@@live4uncbball Perimeter 2020 is a great loop, personally I like to do the Kaylor' Knob Perimeter instead but thats more due to time constraints since I usually would go there on a day trip from my house in DC. Make sure to pay the fee when you're at the W Slope too. The Signal Knob - Maneka peak loop is much more a hike-a-bike situation, but the downhill is amazing. Haven't done schloss or opa. As seen in the video(s) above, the whole area is very rocky, so be sure to bring plenty of plugs and sealant. A nice first aid kit is a must as well, even if it's a short ride, as it's very tough for EMS to reach you on the trail, not only because of the rock but also due to bad cell service as well.
I rode this the other day and the first mile long Ridge Line section before Puzzler is a Advanced with some double black sections due to the rock gardens. It will tear up your bike and most Advanced riders will push in sections. After passing the Puzzler intersection it become a "Pro Line" and literally looks like a rock slide. If you can ride natural boulder fields with rock gardens on top then I guess you could ride a hardtail over it. Depends on if you are the best of the best as a rider. The Puzzler trail has the same type of rock slide but the trail is build instead of natural and the cut stones fit together like huge cobblestones. Hardtail would work fine although it is hard on any bike to keep your line straight in sections.
Yes this trail helps out the local bike shop and also the local hospital . Its definitely high consequence if you dump the bike because you are hitting solid rock . It's just one big rock garden . Trails like this you probably need to be geared up a bit more starting with full face helmets . I have noticed on Brian's vidios he has at least one episode that he avoided dumping the bike and shows how close you are at losing the bike . Those are wake up calls for me . I dont look at them wow I got out of a bad situation but more how I got in that position to begin with . Most of what I see with brian is washing out on the front tire which is common for most . Now that can be improved with different tires , size and tire pressure can help .
Hey Bruh, love the vids.. I will be venturing out to Fort Valley Virginia in a few weeks and was wondering if you can shoot me the access points to these hidden trail rides ? Are still going to be around the Virginia area in the 3rd wewk of July? I will have some beginners with us also ...where can the beginner wide trails be accessed.
While watching your Arkansas videos I noticed that the people you ride with started carrying a mic (that is great, far better than constant subtitles). However only now I wondered how do you achieve this? Every single one of them has to carry their own mic and their own recording device which has to be running the whole time and which has to be set to the ideal sensitivity so you can sync all of it up while editing? Great video as always by the way.
Nice ride. How do you avoid pedal strike on Ripmo? I was riding Trek Slash and never faced pedal strike but with Ripmo , I have been experiencing lot of pedal strike . Any suggestions?
Where was the e-bike on that crazy climb when you need it :D Even on GoPro that looked crazy steep, I cannot imagine what it looks like through actual eyes.
I really like the new format you have interviewing mountain bikers while mountain biking. It's a cool format
genius
Yup, having her mic changes a lot

Good to see you back in Virginia. I hope you checked out stokesville while you were in the area.
What a wonderful trail- so rare to get a natural rocky feel in a purpose built bike trail. Chapeau( to borrow roadie stuff)
Now that's the kind of trails I like!
Annapolis in Maryland has some what new trails that’s about 30 miles. Not rocky but pretty fun. Probably an hour south of the shed.
Make sure to hit Bryce bike park at some point.
Just rode puzzler yesterday! It was suuper fun
"Distracted by boys.. and other sports" :) This is like French Pyrenees kind of stuff!
Man I hope you did the Signal Knob - Maneka peak loop too! Great stuff!

Salute to ALL trail buiders

Have been wanting to hit up the western slopes for a while!!! Come back and ride frederick watershed
Welcome to our trails!
Check out fountainhead!
BK - so trails like this one "could" be ridden on a hardtail, but I'd like to hear your thoughts about that.... - Love your vids

I’d really like you to see this local trail just south of Austin Tx called Dante’s loop its pretty gnarley and rocky it’s located in purgatory creek.
Love your channel
The first time I go cross country to the west and BKXC is mountain biking at my local bike park an hour away from my house. What are the frickin odds.
I do recommend fountainhead bike park if you're further north
Old school chunder!
You should check out the dh park there.

Contact MORE-MTB. Org, the local mtb club. Shader Farms, perhaps?
Man you said “pain and pleasure”, but that seemed more like pain and pain with a sprinkle of pleasure.
What is rattling? Sounds like part of your camera set up. 😊
That was sick🤘

When u Said: my Friends….. the dog looked like: wait what u have Friends?!? 😁
will those fenders fit a 2019 fox 36 front fork?
pretty good video !

Did you say you had to replace the hellbender bottom bracket? I thought those were much more durable.
They have different levels of the hellbender. I think his may be the version before they came out with the xd 15 infused bearings.
You were riding with goats! I lost my breath watching
You should come back to carvins cove!
im curious on how many shredders smoke bud..or eatables or however it is ingested nowadays
H-burg still has a few remnants of the infamous team Hugh Jass. Enough said.
Your bikes so quiet. God i need a clutch derailleur lol🤣
I accidentally did this trail on the way up and it was pretty much a hike
3:17 the ground is covered with evidence of a difficult trail.
So much jank! I fear for the AXS derailleur.
Looks like some of the roughest stuff you've ever ridden!
Watch his Spain videos from a few years back- super chunk.
hardtail nightmare
Fire
that's some sketchy riding there buddy! lol
That looks...rocky
I don't like the trees sticking out where you can easily tag them

See, you don't need a 2x12 drive train, except when you do... Can't beat a 22 tooth front cog.
" distracted by boys and other sports "
Brian should start eating 50mg of THC edibles before the camera starts rolling
