The nature of being human doesn't seem to change much through the centuries. We struggle to communicate what matters most.
I remember reading The Odyssey and discovering that even in ancient Greece people complained that the generation coming up after theirs didn't have what it takes (lacked character, patience, work ethic, etc.). It seems that view of "our group was the best" is pretty universal.
