ASMR A Map of England (soft spoken)

- Hallo, hallo, how are you all? Today we're looking at a map of England - again, a lovely gift that appeared in my post box. Thank you, Thijmen!! This one was a fun topic to prepare, for one because the language on the map is wild, but also because I finally learned where all these cities are that I learned about back in the day, watching hours and hours of Premiere League football... Not because I was such a big fan myself, but there was just no way to escape it, being with friends from England. Sundays were football and endless cups of tea.
So maybe make yourself a cup, get comfortable, and I promise, no football talk in this one. We'll look more at Anglo-Saxons and Vikings!

The strange prayer about shipwrecks is an old folk song - it’s because of the tradition of wrecking in Cornwall whereby those that find wreckage and cargo washed ashore had the right to claim it.
Cornwall is famous for its shipwrecks due to the coast and had a reputation historically for intentionally luring ships to wreck through false lights etc. People still to this day believe salvaging wreckage that washes up is their right (even though it is illegal!).
Cornwall also has a long and interesting history with smuggling.
It’s a very interesting place. Cornwall has a very distinct identity from the rest of England, even its immediate neighbouring areas.
Very interesting info, thank you!
Yep it's a Celtic nation in its own right and Cornish is mutually intelligible with Welsh
Thx for this insight. You seem to know a lot about this area. Are you from that region?
Not even the Romans messed with Kernow!
❤
This channel deserves 1M subs.
Your knowledge is outstanding. Not only have I relaxed but I’ve learnt so much about my country. Thank you.
What a beautiful and precious memory and story connected to the map. ❤ So cool, as an English teacher I am more than delighted. 🤓
Yes oh my goodness. I've been really struggling to sleep recently. This will be a god sent ❤ So good to see you, hope all is well
So glad you're back and perfect timing! Felt a bit down and seeing this video brightened me up 😊
Thank you so much for continuing to make these wonderful videos.
❤
Omigosh, I have this map too! It used to be my mom’s (RIP). It’s such a lovely and interesting map, and hope I can get it framed someday to showcase both sides. I haven’t watched the video yet, but really look forward to it later! ❤️🇬🇧🗺️
I have it too. From mid 70’s or thereabouts. Lots of info on it🇺🇸
hahaha i (the guy who sent this map) had this Dutch elementary school teacher who loved these maps. he always had nice/interesting stories about the past, including late ww2 and early space age. no wonder he had these NG maps laying around ;). i won it over a decade ago now when he was finally retiring after 55 years of teaching. as a gift he held these bingo games with memorabilia from his home. he told me that it was quite famous. back then i could not yet understand english so i just loved the artwork on it without really paying attention to it. anyways, enough rambling, i loved the asmr video and thank you, miss Melange ASMR!
@@jakutim8740 that’s such a cool way you came to own the map! Very good provenance and so sweet of you to send it to Melange so she could share it with thousands more people. 😊
Loved this, thank-you! Thrilled that my home town of Grimsby received a mention from you. ❤
I lived in Grimsby (Cromwell Road) while I was teaching at Lindsey Comprehensive in Cleethorpes back in 1982! Wonderful fish and chips...but a very cold wind!
Aw. Lovely to see you back! I hope all is well with you and your family
Thank you so much, Ms!
I’m always grateful to see you post 🙏
Just found your amazing channel. Im ex Army and struggle with PTSD..But your calm and soothing voice relaxes me no end..Many Thanks..Look forward to listening more
I’m ex Navy. Had mental health issues before joining but got worse over time. Hope you can manage it well now. ❤️🩹
Bath is beautiful, well worth the visit
It's a clean city.
@@Andygb78your jokes don't wash with me
National Geographic Maps were the best. My favorite were the ancient Roman Empire and Greek maps
I live in Tamworth (near Birmingham) which is the accident capital of Mercia (Anglo-Saxon era) there’s a lot of history on Ethelfreda (warrior queen) and Offa’s Dyke (built by King Offa) which you still see remanence of today.
Is it accident prone?
You appeared when I desperately needed sleep the most! Hope you are well and happy 😊
I want to fall asleep but I also want to watch the video :D love it!! ❤
Newcastle mentioned!!☺☺
As usual, another fantastic video, thanks Melange! ❤
Your voice is gold and your hands are awesome 💯
Hallo Melange! I’m happy to see a new video from you! This map is a pleasure for the eyes & your melodious voice a delight for the ears. I can’t wait to visit Vienna in May! 💛🙏🏻
Melange you’ve been missed! Hope everything is well 💛💛 can’t wait to watch this new video later
Yes, Liverpool definitely has a distinct accent 😆 (Scouser here).
I absolutely love this video. Relaxing and informative. I think I've watched it about 10 times already 😊
Yay! Love a new video. What a beautiful map too!
You still manage to make my scalp tingle! Thank you. ❤
Glad you didn't say head
Thank you for covering my beautiful island again

You're channel is so lovely and relaxing 💕🍓💕. Blessings to you, dear one🌼.
Is everything okay !??? Been a long time since a video. I hope all is okay
I know more esoterica, madama blatsky and vril asmr
Great video. Although I'm English my Dna results showed also Welsh , Scottish, Irish and a tiny bit of Swedish/Danish. I live near Liverpool and its a bit shit to be honest
Aww 😕 I visited Liverpool proper for the first time in 2022 and loved it. Hopefully you’ll get to a nicer area someday. 🙏🏼
@polytheneprentiss1534 thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. I'm on the other side of the river Mersey
Friendly city though
Liverpool is not shit 🤣🤣
@pjl8119 true. Our street is pretty grim but there are some large houses overlooking the river very close by
Hello Melange. Been a follower of yours for a while now and just Luv the content. Feel good, relaxing, easy breezy., educational content. I often do not make it to the end, as I have nodded off. Cheers Julian U.K
Yay more Melange!!!
Interesting thing about the North v South debate is that the the ends of England often forget about the Midlands in that class (in which we most ardently defend out Midland status')- Nottingham, Derby line classed as East midlands and Coventry, Birmingham line the west midlands. Of course anyone from outside will just call us whatever they deem to be north or south of them :) Although i do not think we hold many similarities with the south as a Midlander myself, and would much rather be classed as a Northerner than otherwise :D
Ah yes, England ... a great place to spend your summer vacation, according to my Viking ancestors!
I've heard York is worth staying over winter too. Maybe for a few years! Maybe worth creating a kingdom around even
I wouldn’t venture towards Wessex if I were you. 😉
And according to my Normandy ancestors!
😂
At 5:47 the badger underpass is a tunnel under the M5 motorway to allow badgers to travel safely without being run over. The badger act of 1973 made it illegal to deliberately harm a badger and this triggered increased interest in badger livelihood
So glad you’re back 🗺️🖤
Greetings from Somerset. We are that bit of coast below South Wales. Dorset sits underneath us on the South Coast.
Ah my country ❤ thank you for this wonderful video
The humber is tidal estuary it has very strong tides. 1/5 of englands fresh water drains via the river trent and ouse which form the Humber
There were almost certainly funny druids hanging around Stonehenge in the '70s.
😂😂
Salop is Shropshire x
Nice contrast between your fingernail color and the map. Was it intentional? 😉
Thanks for another fantastic relaxing and calming video.
Ahh....so tingly....so beautiful. ❤
I would like it so much to see all those lands united under a same will of acceptance and freedom, wich i will never see in this life. May you all find peace, regardless of the way you pray, or the secular power over you. But remember, all our conflicts are like dust in the wind. Only love passes the centuries. Immortal.
This is so good. I enjoyed that alot 🎉
The Pennines were actually named by the Romans due to their similarity in function to the Apennines
Love this! Thank you!
So very relaxing. ❤
I hope you are feeling much better ❤
Where we can buy this awesome map? Thanks a lot for the great content!
I need that book.
6:30 Southend on sea my homecity
Bitte eine deutsche Version davon 🙏🏻
Oh wow this is so cool!
Enjoyed it, thanks.
I can’t believe Holsworthy is included on this map but not Great Torrington. What an insult!
Anything Above stoke on trent is the north
Not technically I'm from just below stoke and my accent / dialect sounds way more northern
Worcestershire sauce is good for marinating.
lovely video as always if you need a hand with the Irish names at some stage reach out and I'll see what I can do, most are easier than you think, certainly easier than english as Irish is a shallow language so pronunciation doesn't change once you know the rules.
Interestingly enough, the city Milton Keynes isn't on this map! It's very new, only being built in 1967 and thats apparently too new for this 1974 map haha. Lots of brits like to make fun of it, maybe the map makers wanted to get a jab in too
No more recent videos? Please make some more :)
My kind of history lesson 👍
I'd give anything to trade places with any of you all from England. It is my dream. I know deep in my heart and soul I'm meant to live there. I just don't understand why it's so difficult. :(
Don't let the films fool you...its not all harry Potter and Downton abby type of folk here...lol! England has changed a lot over last 25 years...slowly the identity is being lost and forgotten(I miss the traditional phone boxes and mail boxes)and is now over crowded with far too many people for an Island as the benefit system is enticing to many people...even watching the Premier league you will notice there is not many English players anymore lol....the weather is dreadful as it rains too much and our free health care is like an illusion 😉 you can see it but it's not really there....lol! I say to you grass always looks greener on the other side....ps we do have really Green fields though and beautiful scenery but wherever you live still same life struggles
In Cornwall the locals would hope for a shipwreck to plunder the ships cargo and Alfred Hitchcock made a movie called Jamaica Inn in 1949 about this very subject which is on RUclips now LOL
Where did you get your pointer object?
From the arts & crafts section, it was a pack of like 100 little sticks.
My friend used to go do psychs at stonehenge. Think some people do. Idktho
Where's your video on London please? Thanks.
Please do Ireland next!
Mousehole is not pronounced as it's written but as MOW ZEL.
I have this same map framed on my wall
The glories of British pronunciation: Mousehole is actually pronounced 'Moe-zul', more like the Iraqi city than how it's spelled. Don't get me started on Quernmore... btw this was absolutely lovely, you have a new subscriber!
I'm such a map addict. Can't stop playing Europa Universalis 4 and watching ASMR Melange.

I don’t know why I watched this one. I actually dislike England very much 😂
Geordie accent is ok...if you can understand it.
East Midlands Gang
Ayup
I wasn’t born till July 1974.
nice one
Geordie one of the most attractive accents? Really?! Im from the North East and i cringe when i hear the accent on telly.
I quite like it when it's not too broad. I'm from Yorkshire & have family in Northumberland and I always find the accent sounds more friendly than a Yorkshire accent.
Please consider doing the fake Britain map of fictional locations.
*Britain & Ireland. The term ‘British Isles’ is outdated an nonsensical.
Ireland is not a British Isle.
If we reversed it we could refer to the islands as ‘The Irish Isles’.
Leading them to call us suspicious and scary and get scared that we take there women when they don't know there just more attracted to us because when we work on our selves the immunity from not taking damage from addiction and life stack together to make us more attractive not to mention spitting out the cokd in 10 mins - Willy 0
I live near the Medway towns in north Kent and I’m not exaggerating I might as well be living in Pakistan, more so for the midlands. much of England has sadly become very run down and dirty in the last few decades since immigration has become a major issue.
Обожаю ваши видео❤
Love this one. As someone living just north of Newcastle I can confirm that Lindisfarne, in a modern context, is also well known for its Mead. I live in the village Wallsend, named for being the most Eastern stop on Hadrians Wall
So cool! My family is from Durham! Hodgesons!
Wallsend is not a village, doh.
Informative....and super relaxing. Your own particular niche of asmr is in a class of its own.
Im an American, and I have a job interview for a position in the UK on Monday. Watching this as part of my manifestation. ❤🙏
Good luck!
Hope it went well
Good luck! Let us know when you get it! I’m manifesting too!
hope you got it
@@therichsibling3714 I didn't get it. you guys I can't keep doing this.I can't keep getting my hopes up. I don't believe in manifesting anymore. I'm utterly devastated. I have to get the hell out of here, I hate it, I hate my life, I just want to move to the uk or europe.
I’m a Brit, but emigrated years ago. Thank you for this video, made me smile and think of home 😊
Where did you move?
I'd give anything to leave...
@@thesteampunkmachine9077 Brexit really screwed the UK, you can't leave anymore. I'm sorry 😥
Yay! So excited when you started in the South West. Warm greetings from Plymouth. Xxx
The crinkleness of the paper, your beautiful soft spoken voice and your calmness and pace, the theme and the soft movements sums up to perfection. Thank you so much 💕💕💐😘
Wonderful video. Your presentation, delivery, and knowledge are terrific. Your voice, demeanor, and warm friendliness make for a very relaxing, interesting, and fun video. Thank you.
Re the wrecks, in the 18th century, there were poor communities living along the shipping routes, and there was kind of an unwritten rule that if a wreck happened, they could loot for food and other goods. So, they didn't wish ill on the sailors. But they did kind of wish for wrecks! If you've ever seen the television program Poldark, it illustates this well.
Love that show and how it showcases Cornwall’s beauty!
-- Hello Melange! How are you? It’s nice to see a new video from you again! 😊❤️
I'm happy to help with a phonetic spelling of irish place names if that's helpful. They look more intimidating than they sound. Lovely map and great video as always, thank you.
Since 1974 the links between the different path in Cornwall and, more broadly, the South West have been made and now you can hike the whole South West coast along the South West Coast Path, which is 630 miles long
Wow I’ve learned a lot about my own country ☺️❤️ we do have some beautiful scenery 🌲🫶🏻
You sure do! I’m so jealous, here in Texas. ❤️🇬🇧
Dale already existed in Old English. It was the word for valley. It was reinforced by the Old Norse version later. Lovely video/audio!
There’s also a Dale in Tolkien’s Middle Earth. 😉
All the valley walks in The Peak District are Dales - eg Millers Dale, Monsal Dale & the Derbyshire Dales (my home county)
