- One last time before my summer break, let's explore a historical topic together. This time we're looking at Ancient Egypt - and it's a very superficial overview, really, considering there's millenia to cover along the Nile valley.

Thanks for this. It brought back some good memories of a trip to Luxor, many years ago. The Karnak temple was used for a sound and light show, where the commentary welcomed everyone as if we were worshippers, not tourists. It was quite atmospheric going through the temple in dim light. Walking around the Valley of the Kings on the other side of the river, small items from tombs were just lying in the dirt, thousands of years old but so common, they don't have much value. A fascinating place!

Despite being in the desert, Egypt is one of the best situated countries in the world. One of the first civilizations, the main producer of grain in the Roman Empire thanks to the fertile Nile Delta and the owner of the Suez Canal. Very good location from economical point of view across the ages.

I'd love to see where/how you store all your books and maps. Do you have your collection on display or in a bookshelf? Just curious! Also, how do you know so much! Are you a geography major or professor?
I'm neither haha. What I do is I anxiously browse a billion wiki tabs the day before we film and frantically scribble my little notes, and then once the video is done, I tend to forget half of what I've been saying...
And yeah, I bought a new bookshelf last year for all the books and maps I've been collecting for the channel, but it's already getting too small. Not all the books stay in my collection though. This one about Egypt I borrowed from my mum, for example, so it's going back to her bookshelf, and every once in a while I donate the second-hand books I've been collecting. It'd be getting out of hand otherwise.
