Ingredients
Rice -1/2cup(ponni,,white rice or basmati)
Tomato-2 small or 1 big
Green chilli-2
Curry leaves-1 string
Chana dal-1/2tsp
Urad dal-1tsp
Turmeric powder-2 pinch
Garlic-1 tsp
Ginger -1tsp
Mustard seeds-1/2tsp
Hing powder-2 pinch
Dry red chilly-2(slits)
Coriander leaves-
Cashew nuts -5(chopped)
Red chilly powder-1/4tsp
or
Kashmiri Chilli Powder-1/2tsp
Salt -to taste
Ghee or Sesame oil -2tbsp
Garam masala -one pinch
Sugar-2 pinch
Thick coconut milk-1/4cup
Or
Boiled Water-1/4 cup
Method
Cook the rice and keep aside .
Heat oil in a kadai.
Add dry red chilly , mustard seeds, cashew nuts and both the dals one by one ..
Then add ginger ,green chilly ,hing and curry leaves and saute for a minute .
Add powders and saute till the raw smell goes ..
Then add the chopped tomato and mix well ..
Add salt to the mixture and stir and cook the tomato by closing the kadai ..
When cooked add water or coconut milk and heat ..
Check the salt and spices ..
Adjust ..
Then add the cooled rice to this and mix thoroughly .
Cook it for 2 more minute in low flame by closing the kadai and finally add chopped coriander leaves and mix well…
Remove from the fire and transfer to a serving dish ..
Serve hot with pickle or raita ..Or u can simply have this without any side dishes ..!!
So enjoy the tasty tomato rice ..:)

ഇന്നലെ ടൊമാറ്റോ റൈസ് ഉണ്ടാക്കി. നല്ല ടേസ്റ്റ് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. 2 ഗ്ലാസ് അരിയുടെ അളവാണുണ്ടാക്കിയത്. അതനുസരിച്ചെല്ലാം കൂടുതലെടുത്തു. ടൊമാറ്റോ അത്ര കളറില്ലാത്തതായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് കാണാൻ അത്ര ലുക്ക് ഉണ്ടായില്ല. കൂടാതെ മോനുള്ളതുകൊണ്ട് ചില്ലിപൗഡർ അല്പം കുറച്ചാണിട്ടത് . പിന്നീട് പച്ചമുളക് ചേർത്തു . പക്ഷെ ടേസ്റ്റ് എല്ലാവർക്കും നല്ല ഇഷ്ടമായി. എല്ലാം പെർഫെക്റ്റ് ആണത്രേ. Loved it! This will be a regular on our menu. The sesame oil is the star of this dish in my opinion. Tamil dishes are a favorite of mine!

Chechi I just made thakkali sadam with basmati rice but thakali yude alavu oru paadu kuranju poi, pakshe taste kollaam, pinne thakkali vevan vellam ozhikendi vannu, I will try two more times and update you. I added groundnuts instead of cashews.

Heyyyyyyy......surprised that you and me, made it on the same day. I made this today morning for kids lunch box. Looked very much the same.
Only difference is ,I did not add, ginger, garam masala and coconut milk. I add coarsely ground tomato in a mixie , A mix of kashmiri and spicy chilli powder and little lemon juice .
Kids love the colour and the tangy taste for their lunch box. They are happy when it is served with a boiled egg.😁 I pack this when people leave my home for long journeys. The lime makes the food stay fresh for long hours. ( Felt like sharing this)
