Vehicles are just a piece of metal. Investing in yourself is better than paying truck payments. A reliable “beater” that is respectable enough to just use is smart.
avoid a car payment anytime u can! Good choice by the way ....2 years ago I got a 2004 LT Tahoe with 142k mi.... I had to fix the AC and an oil leak but still running great now with 152k on it. 👍
I have a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado LT It has a 193000 miles Is no rust whatsoever Victory red Is and black leather interior When people see it they think it's 10 years newer than it is It runs fantastic No problem with it whatsoever I will never get rid of it
I'm a GM truck guy but if you want a tough truck that will last you want a 70s Ford.... but pretty much every decade after the 70s.. Go chevy or gmc.. Lol.. Way she goes bud
2002 Taho3 299k. 45 psi idling and 60psi while driving down the road. Yes it does leak numerous places. Only major repair has been a fuel pump at 200k. rebuilt front a year ago.
Not to long ago I bought a 1996 tahoe 4 door 4x4 with 216k it was burgundy and had 2010 ltz 20s i got it for $600 it had a brand new trans and a blown 5.7 I drove it home with a dead cylinder and put a 20k mile reman 5.7 I also bought for $600, I drove it through winter put led headlights in it, threw some low mile 33” Kevlar Goodyear wranglers and a glass pack and new front shocks and sold it for $3600 and bought a gas saving 05 accord. I really miss that truck and the rowdy Snap crackle pops it made. 😖 Good choice going back to school buddy you got this keep us updated your videos made me start flipping cars 🚘
I owned a 1997 Chevrolet Express 1500 Conversion van for about a year. (my van was technically a GMT600 but very similar to those trucks and it shares common issues with them) In my experience, unless that Tahoe already has a transmission cooler, I'd consider sticking one on (especially if towing). I used a Hayden 679 cooler and bypassed the stock heat exchanger (I think they're known for going bad, but since I live in Georgia I didn't actually need the heating capability of it so I just bypassed it entirely). Chances are the temps in that will for sure be lower than my hightop van w/o a towing pkg (had the 3.42 rear end) and not in the Georgia heat. Mine ran at 210F constantly, but with the 679 it was at 150F-160F in 90 degree weather. If you do get a cooler and do not end up bypassing the stock unit, IIRC going one size smaller will be fine. 4L60e's aren't necessarily bad transmissions, but if you keep that fluid bright red and keep their temps down I'm sure it'll last. There's also the gauges. Yours seem to work fine, although the fuel gauge is the first to go in them. You'll notice that it goes a bit wacky upon turning the key to run, but reads fine otherwise. Mine did the wackiness on going to run but it did not want to work otherwise. In my case, I found out the fuel sending unit on the pump went bad. If the pump on yours is still original I'd consider replacing it since the OG units are known for being a bit shitty, but chances are at that mileage (Mine was only at 89k on purchase) it's probably been changed. If not, a Delphi or ACDelco unit will be fine. I used a Delphi unit and it also ended up solving my hard cold start issue. If your fuel gauge starts showing the hummingbird (common term for GMT400s when it measures but vibrates around and generally just goes crazy), there ain't much a fix for them save for getting a new aircore motor. Basically, the dampening fluid from the factory in them goes try and that's why they do that. I tried looking far and wide for a NOS or remanufactured aircore for the fuel gauge, but they've all since dried up since 2018, IIRC. Each gauge has a letter that denotes what it is used for, so an oil pressure gauge will not work for a fuel gauge. US-dashworks still sells gauges for the tach/speedo and oil pressure on Ebay to my knowledge, but since the fuel gauge usually goes bad most often, they were the first to dry up. Besides the sending unit on mine being bad, these GMT400 trucks loooove to have minor electrical issues. My van's fuel gauge also had a bad ground, and it wouldn't actually measure accurate unless it was less than half a tank of gas (post replacing the pump). I'm sure I could've solved it by making a new ground, but I didn't care enough. That being said, that Tahoe is in remarkably good shape for both its mileage and age, especially considering it's in the Northeast and not down here in Georgia. I'm sure you've done your research and probably know more than I in that regard, but I figured some of my experience with this era of GM trucks would be worthwhile to type up. She'll treat you well. I drove my van to the west coast and back and it didn't give me any issues.
Great to hear you are ok. Have you picked a school yet? I hear CCV is a good cheap school. Are you going for a associates, bachelors or a certificate? Maybe post a school vlog? That would be cool.
I had a beater 96 2 door tahoe that I daily drove for about 2 years. Awesome truck. I swapped in a 14 bolt semi float diff from a heavy half, replaced fuel pump, and converted to multiport fuel injection. 33 inch trail grapplers and big steel wheels. Transmission was on the way out (320 km) when I sold it. Now have a 2002 Suburban 2500, more practical for camping, towing, that kind of thing but I miss the coolness of the 2 door, although 2500 burbs are getting some recognition nowadays. Best of luck with school and with the 2 door!
I had a 1999 4 dr Chevrolet Tahoe 4WD. One of the best vehicles I’ve every owned. Same color as yours without the black. Mine had more chrome ie: bumpers, trim, rims, grille and mirrors. That’s a nice truck, enjoy it and good luck with school. Going to miss your videos. Do them when you can. 😊👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸
Good move getting an older truck that's paid for with no truck payments to worry about. I love older vehicles as I own a 2003 Chevy Silverado, a 1995 Chevy S10 and a 1985 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser Wagon. All 3 vehicles are paid for and are daily drivers.
Also my cousin still drives his 97. Onto engine number 2, his dad ran the piss out of the original. These all leak a little oil it seems but they’re great trucks. Good luck with yours man! From Virginia where we get salts too albeit not to your degree, frame is holding up amazing as well
Ugh, a reduction in volume, I really like your content, and I will watch whatever you post. If you don't have time for editing, can we get live-stream updates on things going on?
Vermonter here as well, never graduated highschool and I still have a successful and profitable business..it's all about work ethic and getting a mentor, nothing more. Good luck, peace.
Honestly, that’s not a bad swap at all. I love those GMT400 2 door Tahoe’s. They run well, are easy to work on, and the first major job that needs to be done on them is typically the tranny (aside from control arms and suspension)… even then a 4L60E rebuild and kit are not expensive… between labor and parts you’re looking at around $1,500 max. Even then it won’t start slipping bad enough until around closer to 200K if not higher. Nice buy all around, frame is extremely clean. Hope it serves its purpose for you.😎
It's a sharp looking Tahoe, it will serve you well. Nice buy, I wish you the best in your future endeavors. You are very intelligent and outgoing. Going back to school is awesome, knowledge is a powerful tool. Look forward to your videos in the future. As always stay safe and take care.👍🙏😊
I think you are making a very smart choice. I have a 97 sierra z71 with the 350sbc. I picked up in college while I was in engineering. The gmt400 platform is a solid truck. Keep an eye out on junk yards. There's always a ton of trucks there parted out. Parts are very cheap and it is easy to your own maintenance on it. Although I dumped about 2k into getting all the maintenance right, I have put about 70k miles on it since 2018 and it has been a very cheap note if you consider average month to month payments and im emphasizing very cheap payments lol. IMO these generation vehicles are slowly making a comeback with their cost/reliability factor. I don't think many people like swallowing on 50-60k truck note. Goodluck on your business endeavors!
Ahh long time no sew, good to have you back, i was wondering were you had been :). Good for you going to coleague, wish you the best of lucks, of course we will all miss the videos but once you finished they will be back. Oh and i like the Chevy, looks cool.
ARV, that’s awesome! No apologizing for bettering yourself. While I’ll miss the flips., I’m pretty sure your loyal fans would watch any content you decide to it out. You should be really proud of yourself, getting back into college isn’t easy in terms of the world academia, I went back 5 years after highschool. I really look forward to all the content.
One more thing, when it’s a truck based suv or even a jeep. We usually let them all get considered trucks in my area, no one gets flack calling their Tahoe a truck haha
Cool decision! Yeah, I'll be missing your regular videos, but you gotta take care of yourself first. Good luck with your future ventures. Still looking forward to an occasional vid. Take care! Cheers from Germany 🇩🇪
Check out the rag joint on the steering shaft. They are notorious for wearing out and make for some awful steering slop. I replaced it with a ujoint and it is a huge improvement
Don’t fault you for downgrading your vehicle. That makes financial sense. However, this is why there’s such a problem with college debt. You’ve already successfully operated a business for 1 1/2 years, and now you’re going to stop and go pay for school? There’s better ways to learn how to run a business, but good luck to you.
I bought a 96 jimmy and I absolutely love it! Smaller than your rig, but can’t beat the 4.3 vortec and I got it after the original owner. Slight surface rust, but it’s an Indiana suv so what would you expect lol. Nice purchase on your part bud!
Smart moves on your part - with the "book learning" you'll get in school, and the "street smarts" you'll continue to get by running a a business of your own, however small, and the drive & self-motivation you've already demonstrated, you'll do very well. Don't listen to the naysayers about not needing a college education - there is no such thing as unneeded knowledge - you may not think you need certain subjects (and, right now, you may not truly need them), but, sometime in the future, that knowledge will come in handy. Business is business - the basics never change! Plus, depending on your career choices, that piece of paper can open doors that would remain firmly closed without it. Lots of luck & post whenever you can - your posts always have good content & are entertaining!
I just recently got rid of a 2017 Expedition and replaced it with a mint Texas one owner 1999 Suburban that I got for a song. Smart move to let this crazy market have the newer stuff and revert back to the rock solid 350 powered GMT400 platform. I have no regrets.
Heck yea man, I had a 1995 Grand Marquis->2011 Corolla while I was in my time in college for Comp Sci and got a good job straight out. Now I'm looking to upgrade
Buisness school is important. I’m currently going to school myself. I still run my small engine business full time, and it has completely covered my college costs, as well as a few benefits over the couple years.
I have a 97 Sierra. Keep an eye on the coolant level, I should replace the intake manifold gasket on mine with the upgraded version but I just keep an eye on the coolant and oil. With that kind of mileage I assume he did U-joints and stuff. That truck looks clean. Usually the back bumper is swiss cheese.
Very good purchase! Jed and I just bought a 1997 (my birth year) Chevrolet Silverado 1500 extended cab short bed that’s got the 5.7 350 vortec with only 160,000 miles but I still have my good ole Tahoe! She’s got 341,000 miles on her now and it still has the original 4l60 in it!!!
Nice. Recently sold our newer expedition and picked up an obs suburban. Cash in the bank and the suburban is pretty cool. Same barn doors as your Tahoe
I have a 99 GMC Suburban still rust free, I take it to Zeebart every fall to keep the rustproofing current. 250k miles and I plan for it to be my last vehicle, it should outlive me.
My brother had a 98 suburban rust free from Florida he sold it with around 240k miles in 2016 . It had a monster trans put in it . It was repainted 4 years before he bought it so it was extremely nice. He took good care of it and regrets selling it.
I had a similar model year. There are a lot of electrical Gremlins in that truck. Their rear tail lights are known to fail. The power windows and locks are problematic. The dome light can be sporadic and the valve cover gaskets leak.
Put your hand on the tire while listening to that click from the driver side front tire. If you can feel the tire “clicking” as well, it’s your caliper having pressure gremlins. But heck, that clicking could be anything from bad tie rod ends and ball joints to one of brake pads shifting around.
I made the same decision several years ago. I was very disappointed. Business school didn't teach me anything that I didn't already know. I think the experience of building a business is far more valuable than anything you can learn in school.
I'm kind of in a similar situation as you. I sold all of my project cars and motorcycles and narrowed down my fleet to just my 90' suburban and 91 Volvo 240 and went back to school lol.
Welcome to the 2d family. They are fun trucks to have and you will enjoy that short wheel base. There are plenty of communities on Facebook if you need help or parts. Several parts are 2d specific.
Honestly it's a Blazer. My friend had an old Chevy blazer that looked just like it in High school. GM switched the name when they started making the blazer small.
I inherited an 02 GMC Sonoma 4x4 when my father passed away in March. It seems to be a decent vehicle with 35k miles. I added a junkyard shell and new American Racing black rims \ BF Goodrich All Terrain TA's. I painted the shell with black raptor liner. The truck is looking a bit mean now. I use it for my fly-fishing trips. I have had two guys ask if I was selling...... Nope!
@@wingandhog I'm sorry about passing away of Your father. 35k miles on a sonoma is an amazing milage. I myself am an owner of a 1998 blazer (190k miles) and also am using it for fishing trips. 4x4 does the job. Oh man I bet that truck of yours looks real sharp!
Congratulations going back to school man. Like others said watch out for student loans but you’re a sharp lad so I know you’re onto great things buddy!
man that gmc 2500 is my dream truck! i woulda kept it forever and put a half millin miles on it... but at the same time that profit in this market is tempting and older trucks can still get the job done... plus when you're wanting to upgrade you can easily find another

Smart decisions don't always feel good at the time, but usually pay dividends over time. I commend you for having the foresight and the maturity to make smart decisions! 👍🇱🇷
I did something similar and went from a 2020 Silverado to a 2001 Tahoe. I don't regret it. It's weird at first, but you start thinking about all the money saved and you care less and less about having new truck and more about other things you want to do. Most wealthy people drive relatively inexpensive cars in comparison to income.
This makes me feel so much better. I will be getting rid of my 2021 Nissan Rogue because I just picked up 02' Trailblazer. I was paying so much monthly plus insurance and I'm just freaking over the car payments. Want them gone so I'm selling it since I've got a good offer for it. Hope all goes well 🙏
Good luck at school. Haven’t watched RUclips in a while, playing catch-up with all my videos I missed over the last month. Sorry to see you go to school but I guess it’s something you need to do. Everything you learn there you probably already know. You’ll be like Rodney Dangerfield in Back to School. Watch it, classic. I bought my Chevy Trailblazer with 174k and it now has 230k and runs insanely well. Keep up on it and you’ll get through school without a hitch. Good luck 👍
Good luck bud , good call . Keep the car thing as a side project . It’s way too unpredictable for full time and as you probably found out it will stress you out . Ive done it for 20 years and now just do it part time . Really wish the best for ya 👍

I love the old 90-2002 silverados they were built to last 💪
still have my 92 k1500 350 pickup....not for sale
@@BADDUDE_CORNPOP If these 70s Fords were so good, where are they? I still see 70s GM square bodies all over the place.
Nice Tahoe aka Chevy Blazer from the 80’s.
Those Tahoe/Blazers are tanks. That 5.7 will last a long time.
Good luck in college.
Glad to know you are well. I hope school is great for you. Keep us up to date as much as you can. All the best!
I owned a 1997 Chevrolet Express 1500 Conversion van for about a year. (my van was technically a GMT600 but very similar to those trucks and it shares common issues with them)
In my experience, unless that Tahoe already has a transmission cooler, I'd consider sticking one on (especially if towing).
That is a sweet Sport. Good swap for your needs and nothing wrong with making a buck selling the Sierra. Good luck at school!
Well dude, enjoyed the channel. Best wishes and much success on your future endeavor.
Good luck with your continuing education, look forward to seeing your future videos
Check out the rag joint on the steering shaft. They are notorious for wearing out and make for some awful steering slop. I replaced it with a ujoint and it is a huge improvement
Nice to see you back, good luck with your business course, greetings from the UK 🇬🇧
Very wise to learn something about business. Keep posting once or twice. Like it.
Exactly! More likely than not, school will only teach you how to make a payment. You either have a business sense, or you don't.
Hell yeah man, mad props. I’m sure you’ll do great
I bought a 96 jimmy and I absolutely love it! Smaller than your rig, but can’t beat the 4.3 vortec and I got it after the original owner. Slight surface rust, but it’s an Indiana suv so what would you expect lol. Nice purchase on your part bud!
Good for you. I grew up on Maui and went to Vermont Law, right down (up?) the road from you. Education is never a bad thing.
I wish you well with your endeavors!
Nice SUV as well!
Glad to have you back.
All the Best with your school plans & safe travels in your cool new/old Tahoe!
Now I'm looking to upgrade
glad to have you back even for only a short Video, good Luck at school Budy!
That's awesome looking new rig I can see myself in that. Wish you the best in your new endeavors I will pray for you. God bless
Cool I’m sure I’ll see it around! That’s a sweet buy, glad the good ol Tahoe is still ticking!
I got a 99 GMC SUBURBAN too my daily driver it has almost 125K miles on it definitely will get rust proof too
I had a similar model year.
Also I gotta ask what happened to the green 2015 Silverado???
I made the same decision several years ago. I was very disappointed. Business school didn't teach me anything that I didn't already know. I think the experience of building a business is far more valuable than anything you can learn in school.
I'm kind of in a similar situation as you. I sold all of my project cars and motorcycles and narrowed down my fleet to just my 90' suburban and 91 Volvo 240 and went back to school lol.
Welcome to the 2d family. They are fun trucks to have and you will enjoy that short wheel base. There are plenty of communities on Facebook if you need help or parts. Several parts are 2d specific.
I missed your videos, always wondered how to became so knowledgable about motors, I leaned a lot from you about how to buy used anything.
Honestly it's a Blazer. My friend had an old Chevy blazer that looked just like it in High school. GM switched the name when they started making the blazer small.
I mean, 1995-1999 chevys had something special in them that's for sure. Especially the S10's
Good luck on everything. We will be pulling for you. When you are ready you put out what you can. Wish you all the best I’ll be waiting
Congratulations going back to school man. Like others said watch out for student loans but you’re a sharp lad so I know you’re onto great things buddy!
man that gmc 2500 is my dream truck! i woulda kept it forever and put a half millin miles on it... but at the same time that profit in this market is tempting and older trucks can still get the job done... plus when you're wanting to upgrade you can easily find another
You have a lot of trees! Here in Southern CA,they love chopping down trees so there won't be any shade and make it way hot in the daytime!
Hey good for you man going back to school. I dropped out of college last semester and I’m having a really tough time getting myself to go back. Much respect ✊
I had trouble too, but it took some extra steps to get back in the routine.
Glad to have you back, Been patiently waiting on a new A.R.V. Video!
Good luck in your studies. Looking forward to future videos when you have the time.
I had the same truck but a 94....super comfortable super dependable but one of my worst for fuel economy. Good luck with it
Never heard about that new big truck, What happened to the green one?
I wish you the best of luck with your schooling, and that Tahoe is pretty minty. Short wheel base/2door with the rear barn doors is a cool combo.
you went i-95 n, (rte. 128) to mass. turn pike (i-90) west, if you travel in mass. on i-90, you might want to get a transponder.
I’ll still be here to give you views and thumbs up for your Algorithm!👍 Good luck in business school!! I think that’s a really great endeavor, that will certainly pay off in the future.:) Take care & God Bless!! 🙏🏼
Thank you!
Ah! What a crazy thing to drop! I’m proud of your progress and am very confident you’re making the smartest possible decision. Funny enough I’m in my second year of college and your videos got me through my first year, honest. Hope you’re staying in New England too!
Smart move. Trucks are like most material things, they wear out over time and are replaced. Education lasts a lifetime. Good luck!
It sucks that we won't see as many of your cool videos but you got to do what you feel is best for your future. All the best to you!
Thats nicer than the usual rusty vehicles you typically flip
what ever happend to the 6 speed cummins you bought for 4k
I know this has nothing to do with what your talking about but your totally driving in my hometown. Good ole Newton Ma
Hope all goes well 🙏
Love it. I've had a 1999 Silverado for a year now and I'm sad because I will need to store it outside moving forward. Keep up the grind man!
Good luck 👍
Hey man best of luck, your content is great. Do what you gotta do to succeed 💪.
Congratulations! Enjoy and work hard in school. Lots of time to buy and drive nice things when you graduate!
Good luck bud , good call . Keep the car thing as a side project . It’s way too unpredictable for full time and as you probably found out it will stress you out . Ive done it for 20 years and now just do it part time . Really wish the best for ya 👍
I am so glad you doing well, i was afraid you have an accident....i hope you are sucessful in learning...and then awesome in your business
Have enjoyed your content from Briggs and Straton to Dura Max. I think half the people that follow you also enjoy following your choices as you go forward. I don't think videos from school would be a mistake. Many people follow you because of you . I can surely understand certain things are private and should stay that way, however would be interesting to follow you on your new endeavor. Best of luck ..and college is much more that just the books..
The 4l60 in my 07 silverado has 310k miles on it and it shifts like a dream and it came from New Hampshire and now lives in jersey and the roads here blow.
We missed you!!
Great truck. Huge fan of the 2 door Tahoe
Rural Vermonter with a new video 😄😄
