In my opinion these changes are NOT PERMANENT CUTS, they are instead alternate versions of the movie, if you look it up you'll see that there are other versions that mix version A and B, these changes doesn't seem permanent or with the intention to edit the movie, why would they edit the movie if it was already good? Instead they choose to release different versions of the movie to give the audience confusion with multiversal vibes, it's a multiverse movie, right? (I am VERY WELL AWARE that this movie is way more than just a multiverse movie by the way.) You can consider the canon version as the version A, as if has been confirmed that it is not an edit nor a cut. (Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.)

Honestly am I the only one who thinks that this change actually adds to her character? Panicking a lot and actually making it audible is kind of unrealistic. Most panic comes in the form of shock which makes people freeze up and/or be completely silent and inexpressive. Show don’t tell us a big rule in writing and the original version is very much “tell”. That feeling of devastation doesn’t usually result in a big dramatic reaction… for the majority of people their brains automatically stuff those traumatic emotions as far down as possible, which causes an intense feeling of extreme numbness and depression. Her already being exposed to a feeling like that would probably have trained and prepared her brain to stuff down those emotions as a defense mechanism.

The novelty of the "there are different version because it's about the multiverse" thing wore of really quickly for me. it was nice during the theatrical release period cause I've never seen another film do it. however, i honestly think that the production of the film was under so much pressure that some of the "changes" weren't actually intentional but were made cause there simply wasn't enough time and Lord Miller during indecisiveness during production (I've seen many artists that worked on ATSV say that he kept on making changes even after scenes had been fully rendered). I hope at some point in the future, maybe for the Blu-ray release, that the versions that were seen in theatres get properly released and they aren't lost to time or only in cam footage.

Honestly, I can get behind both versions. The one with her lines unmuted does lend more urgency to her search. We can hear in her voice the desperation to know she didn’t actually just lose another friend the same way she lost Peter; however, I can also understand why they muted the lines. You can hear her saying them before they fade out, so they’re still there. She’s still saying them, but I think the reason they’ve been muted is that we’re being shown that same panic in a more “realistic” way. When you’re in a panic like that, you aren’t thinking and you can’t hear anything or acknowledge anything beyond your immediate need. Usually, that immediate need is your own safety, but in Gwen’s case, she NEEDS to know she didn’t just watch another friend die and be unable to stop it, so everything fades out. All the noise, any voices, anything that isn’t contributing to helping her find Miles is irrelevant.
When she finds him alive and well, sound comes back, thought comes back, the world starts spinning again because he’s ok. That’s why she didn’t think to look at her watch to see “CANON EVENT DISRUPTED” until after she knew he was ok. Him being ok meant more than the canon staying intact.

It gets the message across more effectively. it may be true that she's even more so in such a tremendous amount of panic that she's unable to speak, but with the audio, you can really _feel_ her panic better. and it works even better because she had the same reaction with Peter, so it's even more like history is repeating itself

I personally like the second version more for 2 specific scenes which is the topic of this video and the recording of Spot making his mini collider. Agreed. It's a weird change to make because it does clearly tie the two.
I hope it's not some BS about a strong woman wouldn't do that. Because Gwen is actually still being mentally strong here despite her panic. She's actively working on the problem and searching for Miles and not giving up hope. Strong women can still feel panicked. It's more important that she keeps working on a solution and doesn't give up hope prematurely, doesn't turn her back and refuse to look out of fear of what she would find (a mentally/emotionally weak response).
Doing this absolutely weakens the character's arc, and also makes her seem weirdly robotic.

Another change I kinda don't like is at the end. Specifically, the different version of "Start a Band". When I watched it in the cinema, they edited the soundtrack by making it fit the scene. They extended it a little bit so that the Prowler sound effect plays when Miles 42 activates his glove/gauntlet and then they extended the drop so that the track continues when Miles starts panting. Then they cut a small section of it so that it fits the rest of the scene, so Spot's theme and Hobie's guitar play at the right time. But for some reason they thought it was better to just leave the soundtrack unedited in the end, after all the trouble they went through to make it fit as much as possible, in which they definitely succeeded initially.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one upset about this change. The only two changes I’m really upset that Sony made in the digital version is the “Sorry man, I’m going home” line getting removed, and then this. Gwen’s panicked dialogue makes the scene so much more interesting and upsetting because Gwen thinks she just lost another friend. I really hope Sony notices how huge of a change this scene has and changes it to the theatrical version because frankly when Gwen’s lines are removed, it shows that she doesn’t care if Miles dies and just cares about if he disrupted the canon or not. But in the other version she’s freaking out. One of the worst changes to the movie imo.

As long as there is a sequence that Miles questioning why Gwen held him from saving Singh, and she said both, i think it's still tolerable. After all she was still behind the mask and the eye animation doesn't change.
Upon re-watching, i think it is intended to signify that the building was just collapsed, her voice is being covered by the rubbles still going down, and to add panic to the scene by those buzzing high freq sound to make the crashing effect lasted longer, so her monologue is being compressed to no no word only. Plus she was still calling his name when jumping down, so i see why it's got edited to add suspense.
So for that, i think the intention was just about adding tensions, but inadvertently removed her speech too. Thank god the eyes animation doesn't get replaced.

Technically, this version is also a theatrical version. There were two versions that played in theater. This one and the one we liked.
Also, She does scream Miles' name in the new version. It's not *just* "no, no!"
I agree that the panicked version is better. But I have softened in my stance against the change, as I think it only really feels terrible in contrast. The new version is still trying to get across the same message, but is trying to do so in a more "viseral" way. The buzzing, muffled sounds, and silence is meant to place us more directly in Gwen's PoV. An entire building has literally just crashed to the ground in a deafening roar on top of Miles and she is so panicked that she can't think.
Personally, I don't think it works as well, and I think it hurts the parallelism with her Peter's death.
In the end, I probably wouldn't have nearly as big a problem with the buzzing and muffled sound as long as we could still hear all of her dialogue. It's the silence that truly makes the scene weaker, imo.
Let's start a petition for the "No No No No No" Cut!

@@IronheartvsMiles(this will be a long comment so you can ignore it if you want, I'm not trying to convince anyone I'm just stating my opinions about a work of art) I agree with you that the trilogy is Miles' story, however, one of the biggest complaints I've seen about this movie is that it doesn't feel like it works as a standalone movie. And with that in mind if you look at only Miles then yes there isn't really a strong character arc, he starts the movie doing well, he's been Spiderman for a year and a bit and he's learning how to balance that with his mundane life while his parents keep treating him like a kid, then he meets his best friend again and learns that she's hiding things from him (in her mind) to "protect" him, then he fails to fight a villain he had failed to catch earlier, then he saves a police captain and a little girl thereby letting Pavitr "do both" and is told that his actions threaten to destroy a whole universe (even though the annihilation that Miguel shows looks completely different to the black void that moreso looks like a collider accident or The Spot), he is told his dad has to die because he is a police captain close to Miles, and then he isn't even given the *option* to be there while it happens to *try* to "do both" (save the people *and* his dad) so he fights to escape because he wants people to stop treating him like a kid. There are really good story beats in this, but his ideals (believing Spiderman can save everyone always) and never truly tested, he is just told that he's wrong and he isn't given the choice to see that for himself (if he even is fully wrong). But there's a reason that Gwen is the first and last character we see on the screen. She starts the movie as an already tired and burnt out Spiderwoman that's trying to maintain a semblance of a good relationship with her father through the death of her best friend and her dad's fixation on catching Spiderwoman, she then joins the Spider Society after having her heart ripped out when her dad chooses to "do the right thing" and be a cop instead of being her dad thinking that it's the only place she fits in and that the Spiderpeople are the only people she truly feels she belongs with, then she tries to do both (be a part of the Spider Society and be friends with Miles) and she's shown it doesn't work when Miles ends up tagging along to Mumbattan, and then she tries to do both *again* (stop Miles from "breaking the canon" and try to save him from being crushed by rubble) and is shown again that it doesn't work because Miles goes anyway since he thinks she's just trying to protect him, and then she sees her new best friend fight so hard to get back to his family so he can try to do both even after being shown what might happen and she realizes that the people she thought were "doing the right thing" might be *wrong*, and then she has a true heart to heart with her dad and that causes him to choose to quit being a cop which means if the canon is real then he won't die yet because he's not a police captain close to her, and she realizes that maybe just maybe Spiderpeople can "do both" if they have other people helping them and maybe if they aren't alone then maybe they don't *all* have to suffer through the lose that those before them had to suffer. Is this all objective fact, no, it's my analysis of what I saw on screen, and the fact that other people can have different opinions/interpretations/analyses is a very good thing

I kinda like it though because it makes the scene more coherent. When Spot showed Miles the future, it was implied that Inspector Singh was going to die. So when this scene occurs, the audience would naturally anticipate whether the detective was hurt, not Miles. Having Gwen reacting too much to Miles would shift the attention away from the flow of the scene.
I think, if they were going to do a scene where they parallel Peter and Miles being hurt, it would need more build up because it doesn't make sense that Miles is suddenly in danger in the middle of the story from random falling rubble.

While I agree that I prefer the way it was originally; something I just want to draw attention to is that the version that was released in cinemas has 2 different versions and the team behind it said they chose to do this as a reference to the idea of the multiverse, that 2 different versions existed simultaneously almost like 2 different universes.
I’m just wondering if there is some meta aspect to this decision that we aren’t aware of or don’t understand yet? Though I will admit I can’t why this would be a bit they change

I get the feeling they did that to "show don't tell" Gwen's state of panic by replacing her words with a defeaning sound effect. What they didn't account for is that doing so muted too much Gwen's state of mind. That made the delivery less clear and failing the utility of show don't tell, which should generally deliver clarity beyond words.

Show don't tell doesn't equal literally don't have your characters speak. That's not applicable here and I would think they know that, so idk if that's what the issue is. What you want to show is Gwen going out of her mind in panic. Telling would be Gwen saying later that she was concerned for his safety, but us never really seeing it. Giving us lipservice.
Showing would be us actually seeing the moment and having her display how afraid she was to lose him in that moment. Both do that. The original however, is literally showing, and in a way more concerned and panicked way, which sells the point of her trying to save him and her worst fears coming to fruition in front of her better than comparative silence.
What I'm feeling most likely happened is some exec just preferring the less emotive cut for some reason and making the decision to get rid of the better one.

As someone who saw the digital release and not the theatrical release, I definitely feel like I missed that bit, but would have caught it if it was left in. I can kinda see why they changed it, but I think they should have just played with the audio a bit more. From what I can tell, what they were going for was a shock/ears ringing sort of feeling. Like where you're so stressed (and also so many loud noises) that you just can't hear anything, but I feel a very muffled Gwen panicking would have been a lot more impactful (and a good little thing to encourage rewatches if it wasn't super easy to hear).

I liked the "I'm going home" line. Nice bit of double subtext, Miles thinks he's being kind but Miguel just takes it as patronizing (yk, "I'm sorry you feel that way" type since Miles obviously isn't sorry for going home) and further humiliation after being beaten by a kid in front of the entire Spider-society.

Which I assume are from the theater release) It’s odd because I think the ones I’ve seen in clips are way better, for example the scene where geen is going trough miles his drawings and when he tells he’s grounded.
