    Hi guys, another great video. Really liked the slo - mo with the grinder 👍.
    Bet that crap was done by the window fitters, see it a lot out my way. I'll bet the original door & frame were timber which would explain the lack of lintel.

    Nice little video Steve, nice to hear your voice too. I'm not sure if anyone else has commented on the cavity tray you are taking out, but it looks highly likely to be asbestos, the old crumbly, mesh reinforced dpc's normal are the dangerous ones.
    I was so relieved to see you masked up. Nice job (mine are still on their way, I promise!)

      I have been in the building trade for over 45 years and I can tell you that at no time have I ever seen a tray damp made out of asbestos. I think that it is more likely to be the old style bitumen dpc that was fazed out in the late seventies. Bitumen was a common dpc to use but, over time gets hard and loses its elasticity and can crack and become porous.

    • @robsonger1
      @robsonger1 5 лет назад +2

      It's the brittle bitumen DPCs that often contain the asbestos.
      Have a look on the Health and Safety Executive website to read up on it.
      You could be working dangerously without realising.
      It's everywhere. In 1960's houses you will definitely find asbestos somewhere.
      Keep safe.

    Hello Steve, Done quite a few of those in my time and usually always the same culprits, ie crappy flat bar as lintel with hardly any bearing either end and thus the door or window frame taking most of the load. So along comes Bob the builder , takes out one course then "stuffs em" back in with some super hard "muck" without any regard for the cavity tray behind and the problems it will cause. Wonder where he tied his horse up?
    Still "old Bob" keeping you in work , shame you could'nt ask him round to watch so he knows next time eh.
    Those jobs can be a real faff but strangely satisfying when done correctly and complete with the problem solved. Keep up the good work Steve and Alex.
