  • Playing around with the new HC-X2000 and very pleased with the image quality. 422 10Bit is fun to grade. The 24-600mm zoom is amazing. The amount of noise in the darks is not too bad. I think I will keep it :-)

    Can't wait to get mine to try it out, still en route. I used a HC-X1 before but was not impressed, so I hope this is a big improvement. I'm also coming from a Sony AX100 and too was nervous about the sensor size, but these images seem to lack noise in low light. What aperture and shutter speed were you using in low light? I was not satisfied with the lack of 4K-60p on Sony cameras of similar build, not to mention the massive rolling shutter effect on even the slightest movement on the AX100. I hope a smaller sensor fixes that, despite what is potentially given up in low light shooting.

      The sample footage was made in automatic mode. This means the default aperture of f3.4 (then wider the darker it gets), The only user setting I have is a max gain of +18DB.

    Thanks for the sample footage. What were the typical grading adjustments that you applied ? Do you prefer the Cine-D compared to the other colour profiles available. If so, why ?

    • @Sockeye404
      @Sockeye404  4 года назад

      The grading adjustments depend on the respective clip. But I mostly adjust the highlights and the lows, so they are more or less balanced. I prefer the Cine-D profile as it is quite flat and no additional sharpening is applied. This leaves enough space to adjust the colors, as I usually use my GoPro and my Mavic 2P as well. Using a flat profile helps a lot to adjust the footage so it fits together. This was my main reason to switch from my old Sony AX100, because that footage was always over sharpend and more or less ungradable.

      @@Sockeye404 - How are you finding 4K detail resolution compared to your AX100? I just sold my AX700 and am seriously considering this camera. I agree about the over-sharpening, but my bigger issue with the 700 was the color. I've got a Panasonic G9 and really like Panasonic's image quality.

      Roger, it would also be great if you could put this controversy to rest regarding edge sharpness. I’ve read of several people returning the camera because of poor edge sharpness at full wide angle. I would appreciate it if you could shoot a scene at wide angle (preferably with background detail from edge to edge, like a building) in the auto iris mode. My assumption is that this camera, like all others, will select an aperture that’s about 2 stops from maximum in good light with a proper ND setting. It seems all samples I’ve shown are very soft at the edges. Obviously when you shoot at WA you’re looking for a sharp image.
      Thanks!

      Sockeye404 Could you upload a clip shot at full wide angle with detail from edge to edge in auto iris mode or even full auto? We’re having a discussion on the lens design since it appears all the posted samples I’ve seen at full WA are very soft at the edges. One poster said it was because the camera was selecting the widest aperture in any kind of light when at full WA. That makes no sense to me since every camera I’ve ever owned will generally seek an an aperture about 2 stops from maximum. Obviously that’s done to achieve maximum quality. So are the soft edges at full WA due to a soft maximum aperture or is the camera really selecting a smaller aperture, but it’s a compromised lens design.
      Otherwise I think the image quality looks very nice.

    Colors are beautiful. When shooting wide angle though, are you noticing a fall off in the edge sharpness? I'm seeing it in the shot at 1:53 which seems to be the only full WA shot you have with detail in the background. The center background is sharp & detailed but the edges, particularly the left edge, is not. I've seen this in a couple of other videos from this and the sister HC-X1500. Otherwise the footage looks excellent.

    • @kenross6028
      @kenross6028 4 года назад +1

      CS AMD -Unfortunately some owners did just that and the softness remained at any aperture. I wonder if there were a bad batch of lenses. It makes no sense the problem should occur only at the edges when at full WA and regardless of aperture. It’s either a bad batch or a poor design

    • @csamd9049
      @csamd9049 4 года назад

      @@kenross6028 So they didn’t do this, or didn’t do it right, they’re shooting with ND filters on the automatic settings, or with the priority of the diaphragm on the open.
      At zoom, if you pay attention sharply from edge to edge, because the aperture automatically decreases to f4. If you manually set F3-3.5, maybe F2.8 (this must be checked), then it will also be sharp.

    • @kenross6028
      @kenross6028 4 года назад +1

      @@csamd9049 That's not necessarily the case. As you zoom, the internal lens elements change position and it may be that which results in better edge to edge sharpness. I'm telling you I see this in each and every video posted for the HC-X1500, HC-X2000 and CX10. They all share the same lens and all have identical picture quality & processing. It also doesn't explain why some say the specifically adjusted iris after seeing the problem, but couldn't get sharp edges no matter what they did. These weren't novices, they knew what they were doing and understood the ND filter and its effects. I don't think this is a case of user error, I really don't. If it was everyone that's posted a video is doing it in the same wrong manner...including this one. I don't see it for other camcorders. I would love for someone to post a clip, shot at full WA, where the picture is sharp edge to edge. An architectural shot would be great like the one I've linked below. This is yet another video that shows the issue very clearly. I'll admit that at first I didn't pick it up, but once it was pointed out to me I couldn't unsee it and then saw it in every other video that's been posted. Something isn't right and it's the only thing holding me back. Watch the opening and see how the center background is crisp, yet the edges are very soft and almost distorted. Something is wrong, this is clearly a lens issue. I'm just hoping this is a bad batch of lenses and not a bad lens design. I should have asked CS AMD, do you own the camera? If so, I'd love to see a video from you where this issue doesn't exist. Take a look at the video below:
      ruclips.net/video/xv1x8QKXwPw/видео.html

    • @csamd9049
      @csamd9049 4 года назад

      @@kenross6028 I saw this video. It also just did not control the aperture, the only thing that changes from optical parameters when zooming is a decrease in aperture, the lens is aperture to f4 and the image quality increases accordingly, if you do it manually it will also be, there is simply no reason for this to not happen. There are built-in ND filters in the camera and this actually explains the fact that everyone has a completely open diaphragm, while nobody just thought of controlling it.
      To check this, you need to write to those with a camera to shoot a test video at a wide angle and with a manual aperture of approximately F3-3.5
      it is impossible to clamp the tode strongly; otherwise, image diffraction and loss of resolution will go. Therefore, F3.5, can f4 maximum, and the minimum can F2.8, you need to check.

      I must admit, I was initially afraid of the possible noise due to the smaller sensor size in comparison to the 1" sensor of my Sony AX100. But honestly, I cannot see it. Maybe a 1:1 comparison would reveal a difference.
