    I don't mind idols being sexy, but it's creepy to broadcast "this idol is legal now". Or sexualizing underage idols.
    Also.. Stellar was sexy to me until I found out they hated and were forced into their dances.

      Stellar debut song "Rocket Girl", 2nd song "UFO" and 3rd single "Study" was not sexy but they received like little to no attention DESPITE SHINWA's Eric being the producer for them.
      And the time line after that is:
      "Marionette" - lots of attention super sexy, usually confused to be their debut song.
      "Mask" - toned down sexy
      "Fool" - toned all the way down, not sexy but completely overlooked
      "Vibrato" - on par to "Marionette" sexy and attention wise. However this released showed just how much "Fool" was overlooked due to people asking why the group was hadn't released anything for so long....they released "Fool" 4 months prior to "Vibrato".
      "Sting" - sexiness toned down
      "Cry" - sexiness even more toned down
      "Angels of the Sephiroth" - line up changed not really sexy and it was their last song.

      I think it's dope for people who actually wanted to do it.. I imagine for some it would be exciting.. like a little tradition all idols look forward to.. but if they were pressured into it, then yea.. that's hella weird.. maybe it they spent less time in trying to make their idols (specifically the females) look child like and let them actually mature into themselves (such as all the hate some females got for their curves or a little thickness to their bodies) they wouldn't need a coming of age ceremony 🙄..

    • @winterdal
      @winterdal 4 года назад +64

      @hyunlixr the main problem is not the idols themselves but the audience.... even if they are 19 or 30 they shouldnt be sexualised since we don't know them and we have no idea if they like that kind of treatment, not just idols but people in general. It's not about them showing their sexy side or whatever, is about them being oversexualised when they JUST turned 19/20
      + korean male fans are usually disgusting about these kind of stages so it's better for the idols' own safety if they stop these stages

    It's sad that Park Jiyoon didn't really understand the lyrics when she sang the song, but i feel like a lot of people consider this a song that changed the narrative of female sexuality. Like especially in korea in the early 2000s, late nineties. The lyrics state that the girl wants sex as much as the guy and it was a long wait for her too, which is why i think it became so sensational. Again, it's sad that Park Jiyoon had gone through so much because of this song, but i hope 20 years later she's proud of the cultural impact of this song.

      100% agree! The lyrics are WAY ahead of their time... people thinking girls dont want sex?? They do , just as much as men. The songs message is 100% positive: I am a woman now, i've wanted you as much as you've wanted me and now lets get to it? 100% positive , woman empowerment.

    • @NehaBanerji
      @NehaBanerji 3 года назад +35

      its also just a groomer's dream, the song might be touted as something revolutionary for female sexuality but the actual message of the song is of an adult wanting to sleep with a minor and watching them grow up waiting till it was finally legal and then having the child do a sexy dance to be like yep I wanted this too so its totally okay, like it would be one thing if it was just about a woman expressing her sexuality and saying she too (as an adult woman) wants to sleep with men etc etc but the fact that the singer themselves and probably most idols who cover this the moment they turn eighteen didn't even understand the contents of the lyrics just proves how inappropriate the song actually is, it's being used as a justification for consent when these young people don't even fully understand what it means

    I have the feeling that the clothing of the idols has become increasingly more revealing for the male idols in the last six months (see Nct 127, Exo, Pentagon etc.) I don't really know what to make of it, I think it's perfectly okay to present your body as long as you are comfortable with it, but I have the feeling that everything is being pushed very much by the entertainments these months.
    And that annoys me a lot with the last comebacks, especially at SM Entertaiment I have the feeling that at the moment, while all groups want to present themselves as more open and individual, these clichés and charms for the masses are more there than ever, I don't think that's great

All these years of Super Junior making out, EXO talking about showering together and NCT stroking eachother's thighs in most of the interviews? Stanning SM groups feels much different than stanning other groups since fanservice is expected of them. I am a big EXO-L and a NCTzen and honestly I feel like the biggest selling point atm is sex appeal. I'm not complaining since I obviously enjoy what I'm seeing but I hope that the boys are not uncomfortable and are willingly sexualising themselves.

    i think there's definitely ways to do sexy concepts without objectifying the ladies doing them. sistar for example had stated many times over the years that they much prefer sexy concepts, that they felt way less confident pulling off cute ones. when the artists have control and agency, then we as viewers know we haven't unwittingly violated their consent.
    what i really don't like, is when companies use a dramatic shift to a racy concept as a marketing ploy. from experience, so many of these suddenly sexy girl groups are so disposable. their companies clearly don't value them as artists and it shows when the inevitable lawsuits, breakups, contract negotiations come up. the sexy concept was maybe just a last ditch effort to squeeze some cash out of them. they expose these girls to so much criticism while also letting 'fans' take pictures of their buttcheeks. it just feels so exploitative.

Plus YOU guys are always saying how you don't like cute, lovely concepts and like "badass, confident, sexy" concepts. We (the audience) have no idea if the artist is truly confident or is acting confident but you always shout for sexy hot confident women so that's what the company is giving you.

    If the idol is an adult and is comfortable doing the ceremony, that's the most important thing. Same with sexy concepts, if it's not forced and something the groups liked doing(like AOA, Girls Day and Sistar), then it's all good.

    I remember watching and listening to Adult Ceremony when I was 15 and thinking, "wow... this is one sexual song..."
    It was 2009, I am a Brazilian, I was already used to such concepts in my own country and international pop. It wasn't anything new to me, seeing a sexualized concept, but I had the notion that, for Asians (I wasn't that into Korean culture, so I based my thought process on Japanese culture), that imagery and song must have been a BOOM. And I was correct. Hahaha
    I love Park Ji Yoon. She's one of the most authentic artists in K-pop history, tbh. To me, she's up there with legends such as Lee HyoRi and Uhm Jung Hwa and Lee Jung Hyun.

    Coming of age ceremony from Park ji yoon was the pioneer? Uhm jung hwa's song "invitation" would beg otherwise (it came out two years earlier).

    So Daewhi and Taemin's sexy solos rejoicing in how they're adults and can be sexy now are okay. But when a woman does it we get this kind of discussions.
    Let's be clear here. It's never okay to sexualize underage people or force anyone (no matter their age) to do anything that makes them uncomfortable. That being said, I don't see a problem with this song and I think some comments under this video are overreacting.

  • @alexandragabitto2573
    @alexandragabitto2573 2 года назад +4

    Not only does this sexualize young idols, but it just reinforces the idea that a woman’s body is always an open invitation even when it’s not. It takes away all agency from said woman in question, feeding into the idea that a man’s sexual advances is always justified and I absolutely hate that.

    I think its crazy how people have consistently argued over whether a "Sexy" concept is okay. Like it's so weird to me that the argument always falls to fans doing too much and constantly sexualizing their idols or babying them and hating anything provocative. It literally isn't our call to make an idol should obviously be able to choose what they are comfortable doing. I think it's weird that people argue over this stuff bc just like idols we have a right to be comfortable or uncomfortable with provocation too. Yes, some fans on both sides go overboard but I see ppl snapping at each other over the most tame comments like yall sound so hypocritical........

    its also just a groomer's dream, the song might be touted as something revolutionary for female sexuality and opening the gate for women to express themselves (and I'm not denying its impact on the world either, just discussing how misguided it is, basically how women empowerment is still just do whatever men want ig idk lol) but the actual message of the song is of an adult man wanting to sleep with a minor and watching them grow up waiting till it was finally legal and then having the child do a sexy dance to be like yep I wanted this too so its totally okay, like it would be one thing if it was just about a woman expressing her sexuality and saying she too (as an adult woman) wants to sleep with men etc etc but the fact that the singer themselves and probably most idols who cover this the moment they turn eighteen didn't even understand the contents of the lyrics just proves how inappropriate the song actually is, it's being used as a justification for consent when these young people don't even fully understand what it means

But I believe that sexy concepts shouldn't be forced upon idols and should be done if idols feel comfortable doing so. I recently found out that IZ*ONE did their cover of Adult Ceremony and I felt uneasy because the 4 members who performed the song just came into adulthood lol.

    I wonder what was going through JYP's mind when he wrote the song. If you do a lyric breakdown it basically says that there was this girl and a man. The man wanted to have sex with the girl but has to wait for some time because she's a minor. And now that she's a legal adult the girl is telling the man that it's they can now do the did. Isn't that grooming? Anyways, I'm glad Park Jiyoon was able to come forward and speak about what the song did to her. Might brought her fame but the damage it did to her mental health and her relationship with her parents is something to not be taken lightly. I'm also glad she had the guts to walk away from the image given to her which she's not comfortable.

    • @gabieisabellaproductions3150
      @gabieisabellaproductions3150 4 года назад +2

      Grace Fire The lyrics said " I'm thankful you waited for me. ". Which clearly meant that the man told girl that he will wait till she reach the right age to the deed. This was the interpretation of the artist herself, her parents and a lot of knetz who think of her negatively throughout the years. And whatever the intention is, it is the songwriter/producers job to brief the singer about the meaning of the song and asked her if she's comfortable with it. She maybe of legal age at that time but we must bare in mind that South Korea is still a conservative country up to this day. The song was released in 2000. It did brought her massive fame and it is what she's known up to this day. Imagine being known for a song about being wanting to be eagerly wanting to be deflowered. The impact of what happened on her mental health made her on hiatus for six years.
