the more expos in locations people can drive too is great for the community
I used to be a DJ/band event promoter and the reality is you are always going to compete with other events, no matter how much you go out of your way to prevent it. It's just the reality of putting on events.
The number of conventions isn't the problem. The cost of entry and the cost of buying things is the problem. If it's expensive to get in and everything is priced 25% over ebay, what's my incentive to attend?
and most of the vendors already did the best deals with each other before the doors even open.
i'm grateful for the pixel game squad. All of y'all!
Riff: “I would hit the eject button on the PS2 and use it as a cup holder while I play more important systems”
More small cons is good for people that's can't travel to the larger cons imo
Umm actually RC Pro-AM II is the 4 player game. The first RC Pro-AM is a single player game.
Competition is supposed to be good for the consumer and bring lower prices. BUT that is not the case with these gaming expos sadly.
Chris always has the freshest hats
Ricky said it best. Eventually with a rapidly growing market you will hit a point where the bubble bursts so to speak.
Never too many. So many people in the community and each area/each convention offers something different.
Plus there are plenty of conventions where I wish I could attend but they are too far or the days don’t align. So having more opportunities help.
@@GamerAhmer this is all true. I think they all individually are unique.
Nes - Tetris
Snes - Street fighter
Gamecube - Soul Calibur
N64 - Mario Kart
As an attendee of events. Competition is always good for the end consumer, so I like it. I can see the way that con/expo owners see it differently

We vended at Retroworld expo this year 1st time. We are a 3 time vendor at Retrogamecon in Syracuse. We were super excited about RWE. We didn't do as well at RWE as we do at RGC. There were a ton of people but we agree, they were not spending as much. I spent a bunch of money HAHA I knocked 17 titles off my NES list. 165 left. I think we were in a dead spot, if that makes sense. I did like the convention overall, tons of games and I got to meet Mort and his family and I talked to Curtis a couple times, once while he was struggling playing Gradius. I had a blast and if we don't vend next year I might make the trek out just to attend. It was that good.
I think ign live and Xbox’s showcase helped you. They didn’t really overlap thematically, so if a person was coming from out of state, it was possible to cover 3 completely different events in one weekend in LA.
Living in Michigan, the two biggest ones are MGC and TORG which are both amazing. Then we have the Detroit Retro Gaming Show which is a very nice small single day event.
I’ve hit up 4 conventions this year. Pax, a retro game con, and two comic cons. The problem is not that there’s too many cons. The problem is that there’s not enough good cons. One of the cons I hit up cost me like $70 to get in and most of the vendors just threw stuff on a table. I’ve also run into situations where if you are going on the last day of a show, then a lot of the stuff is already picked over.
Lets NOT forget about Mario 64, it's what everyone and their mom should play first! Short levels and it's one of the best games!
Chris we met on Friday I’d like to be very honest. I’ve been to all the Retro World expos since 2017 I also go to the Long Island Expo. The 2 shows are 2 close to each other although I enjoy both shows. I was happy you guys were open on a Friday. Also The Dutchess County Fair in NYS which 2 hours away from Hartford is also going on the same weekend. The Dutchess County Fair is one of the best fairs in NYS and has a big draw. Having all the events so close together makes it difficult to choose what to attend and where to spend your money. I’m sure it’s difficult to choose what weekend do the show. Also there’s Pinball shows in Allentown and Massachusetts. I wish your show was a different time of year. Hope this helps. Love the show and it was a pleasure to meet you and Chris.
RC Pro Am is a 1 Player game. RC Pro AM II supports at least 2 players. I think I just found a new best friend.
Show promotions have always been the biggest reigns supreme. The sportscard and comic book conventions were saturated and died out but have returned.
retro world was great i spent over 1000 dollars.. there were so many vendors maybe location of there booth or prices were the reason the vendors didn't do well
I had a feeling Jay wouldn’t be too impressed when I was watching the after movie of Sol Cal, 😂 Glad it can all be settled with a couple of clothlines and DDT’s in the ring 👌🏻
Everything in retro gaming is getting over crowded.
Also the economy sucks. As a store owner and a vendor at these shows. I'm doing well but there is definitely a lot of the country hurting cash wise atm.
Groceries are killing us right now
If you look at all the Comic Coventions that happen in the LA/ Santa Ana / Long beach area in a year there's alot. I image the Retro/ Gaming seen in SoCAL could handle about 2 to three a year the same size as the one you guys did in Pasadena. Great show by the way I'll be back for the next one. I bet Long Beach or Santa Ana areas could support them also.
The more the merrier as long as they are good and just isn’t a money grab. I think you could do one a month. I do more comic conventions and I always look forward to them.
Tons of conventions/expos nothing wrong with them should be once a week or once a month one in every state so by every couple to few years you’ve been around the whole country my convention/expo is the Long Island Retro Gaming Expo where I’m originally from on Long Island NY
Celebrity boxing is popular. I worked a RUclipsr boxing event and they had a huge crowd
Pikmin... is the blue cheese of the gamecube... Love your podcast boys
I wish we had a con where i lived.
I thought was table top and indie games. Didn't see alot of retro stuff at pax south.
I wish Boston had one. There's Pax East, which I went to a some years ago, but it isnt a retro game convention. I think there's one in Connecticut, but I'm not looking to drive out of state. You'd think a city like Boston would have it's own decent sized retro convention. I've heard of some real small sized things happening, but I only hear about them after the fact.
is this a troll retro world the one chris got back from is the one in connecticut lol
It’s RC Pro Am 2 that is 4 players
Pikmin games are 🔥.
This is why socal smashed it because it was different and exciting only issue is you have to keep it fresh something new each year if there’s gonna be more competition. Luckily you also have a big following because people love you guys for you and will come to just have a chance to say hey. Either way you guys are good 😂
UMK3 for sure Chris is right but on Genesis! MK Trilogy on ps1!
I have a reproduction Super Mario Bros 2 Japanese version nes cart that I have playing at my vendor table. At least one person tries to buy it at every show.
No I think there aren’t enough. I think each state need at least one or 2 depending on size. I think we also need to work on growing the community as well specially with younger generations. But also getting our generation more into it
A convention seller saying they didnt do as good this year can be a subjective situation. Ie the vender made 80-90% of money back/profit vs 100% also there are the crazy prices for retro games. Say vender A buys a lot of killer titles which avg out to $10 a piece and they sell between $60-250 a piece. Is not doing well mean they only made $30-175 instead? Its all Subjective
There are no retro game cons in virginia. Please start one here!
Reseller havens, horrible experience for true gamers and collectors
It's basically paying (entrance) to buy more overpriced stuff. 💸
true gamers
I completely disagree with this. I love video games and would love to attend every expo I can. However, I'm not getting on a plane and flying across the country to buy a video game. I think there are way more people who will only go to local shows than there are people who will travel around the country going to shows.
How dare you Riff PS 2 was an awesome console....lol
I’ll be honest I have zero near me so I’ve never been to one. I’m jeaslous of whoever actually has ome. I gotta rely on anime and comic cons to have any chance of in person retro games
@@aBathingSloth hopefully you will be able to experience that!
Im in the same situation. There are none in virgiinia
WOAH WOAH WOAH! Remember whose console is the best selling of all time Riffo 😂 all the ps2 hate 😂
😂😂😂
KC Retro in kansas is pretty good!!
Vendors over price everything
Im not going to a retro show to find something because you are gonna pay top dollar
Why travel to socal if you live in Florida vice versa
Next year have Tony Hawk with a THPS Skate Tournament
I was in a pog championship in the 90's and beat everyone it was at one of the biggest toy show in the USA for new toys that are coming out and you can only get into the toy show if you have a company that sales toys and my mom had a educational toy store so she would go to see what new things she could sale in the store and they just happened to have pogs at the toy show doing a competition and I signed up and beat everyone even the guy that worked for pogs and I was only 8 or 9 years old. For beating everyone pog gave me a pog competition setup and 100 pogs most pog only made for the workers or only made one of ever and I still have all of the stuff pog gave me.
The answer is no?…not big ones at least IMO
I live Arkansas see you @ ricks con me and my cuz are going lol
CASH GRAB, EVERYONE THINKS THEY CAN DO IT BETTER AND THEY WANNA MAKE MONEY
Dont understand expos... whats the point... so many ways to buy games... why pay admission fees to buy the same games... to dress up?
Retro isn’t retro anymore it’s over saturated now
Over saturated doesn’t mean it’s not “retro”. Retro just means old and nostalgic.
Lmao

Pikmin, horseradish, and blue cheese. Chris is my dude
