  • Emergency Medicine is an absolute necessity in developing countries like Pakistan. This speciality influences directly the mortality rate of inpatient and also in community. It bridges the gap between Accident and Emergency departments and Inpatient specialities.
The entire training and curriculum of EM focuses on identification of imminently life threatening medical, surgical, gynecological, pediatrics and trauma related acute conditions. By doing so, a trained and experienced EM physician takes appropriate measures to ensure adequate resuscitation of such patients before referring them to inPatient specialities thus removing extra burden from those specialities and giving them opportunity to focus on other aspects of healthcare.
The sorry states of A&E departments across developing countries like Pakistan can be changed by introducing sophisticated training programs in Emergency Medicine and giving young doctors lucrative opportunities to learn and practice EM competencies to improve their skills. This will significantly effect the mortality and morbidity of patients in the community and can reshape the entire healthcare system.
