ngl, kinda ironic the song is called 'How it goes' and the song just didn't get released because it just didn't work-
There's something I love so much about when a songwriter is like "What did I mean by this?" about their own lyrics
No joke, the chorus is amazing. It's something I'd listen to on repeat if it were to be released as a single or maybe in a future album. The ending of the song could also be great released as a separate song, even though its just a small part of it. I love the chorus and the ending
in the airport but james marriott uploaded
Have a good flight :) (or whatever you're doing there)
@@piribirini thank you!!
SO TRUE (cool pfp;) LOVE HIM TOO)
@@iekuhh YEAHH 🙏🙏 LOVE JOOST FR
omg cant wait for How It Goes (James' version) (from the vault)
pfft real
Please, I need more videos of just you talking about your music, I want to know the things that went through your mind whilst making music, I love the depth and the healing of your own emotions with each song. I love these sorts of videos, it helps me get a better understanding.
I think it’s unlikely he will do more music vids. However on Genius they have all the interviews and meanings with the lyrics! :)
The end feels like the ending of a good book
Truee
Was so ready for this to be about good bin bad bin not making the cut.
7:12 “NO CLUE WHAT THAT MEANS” is actually the realest thing I’ve ever heard as someone who tries to write music and half the time it’s kind of nonsense
as a (struggling) musician, there are some parts of this that i can understand why they weren't released - but the ending is something else man. i think it'd be cool if you released that as just an interlude for a future album; less than a minute, raw, emotional, gets everybody crying, and is a nice reset before the next full song. nevertheless you are such an inspiration and videos like this are what i live for
yo what account do you use for your music im really curious about it and would like to give it a listen
the fact that the song is about missing your chance because you waited too long thinking and then part of it not being released was because he overthought i needing to be perfect ;-; genuinely so heartfelt and cathartic tho thank you for sharing!!
Whenever I hear unreleased songs from my fav artists I immediately love them-
The “falling in love” part 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 PLEASE PLEASE MAKE A SONG THAT IS FULLY PIANO
Yessssss please 😭
I’m so upset you didn’t release some of the songs on the digital download but I respect the decision king, can’t wait to hear more :)
God his voice is just so beautiful in the soft parts of his music. Like sort of haunting
I want this to be released so bad it's awesome well done james, such a shame you feel differently
I adore how it goes so much
SAME
right? likes its so iconic i need it on my spotify playlist
and thank you for showing me it before this video! legit have it on repeat at least once a day
Unintentionally 💀
@@CMT_Crabbles oh god I just noticed the mistake😭💀
its giving Romanticise this + him and i love itt
I would KILL to see like a re imagined version of this song because the bass and the chorus and the end are FANTASTIC
I don't think I've ever clicked a notification quicker
So like no joke, I would listen to this song on repeat. I def understand why it never happened for the album… but as a single OR EVEN YOU AND A PIANO WOULD BE GREAT AS A CHANGE
9:28 honestly... i cried during this part. James you are such a brilliant songwriter
james that ending is beautiful, shame you didn't like the rest of the song. Would love to see something like this in your future work. big love jimbo
every time James slides on his vocals- it’s my favorite thing his voice sounds so smooth and so natural- honestly I just love seeing his process and raw vocals as well it’s incredible to me
James please release this, edit it or change the fact you dislike and please please release this, the end is to beautiful, even if you do something with a piano your voice is so soothing and calming with it
I relly appreciate as someone working on music production myself that you actually show us the parts of the song with your own interpretations, because it really validates the whole processes that leads up to the songs you release :))
James are you going to say anything about the thing with Alex?
i was about to sleep but the grind never stops
that ending could have been a cool interlude tbh! but i totally understand why it didn't make it
This is one of those "the arts" things - i work in editing and the amount of writing pieces i look at 6 months, a year, 2 years down the line, and physically cringe away like it's something awful? Countless. I suggest editing the song and putting it as a track on an Unreleased album.
As an artist, you are very aware of art being subjective, and i like it. I think you will always be your own harshest critic. But the bit you described as cry singing is so beautifully heartbreaking. I love it ❤
Side note: i couldn't get tickets for dublin, so i will wish you the best from here! You'll smash it ❤
Edit: a friend gave me a ticket! See you in dublin!
I remember hearing this on the digital release and was like, OMG YES I LOVE THIS SONG ❤ This one along with Cocaine and Run are just my absolute favorites from the digital release!
YEAH NEW POSTT
Please do more of these, the production of music and what you have to say about each part of the song is so fascinating to me
I am shocked about what has happened with Alex... dam, man. ❤️🩹
You letting us in to your creative process and the thoughts on your own work is endearingly refreshing. It’s clear how much love you put into your art, and want to make it just right.
I think it’s safe to say that you’re your own worst critic, because you absolutely could’ve put this out, as is, gotten your coin, and moved on. But your passion trumps that, and it’s kind of awesome to see.
I thought the song was beautiful and vulnerable, and you can reuse anything from it if you’re inspired to do so.
that ending was beautiful. i feel like it could have been a nice transition between in between and the other side or maybe a physical exclusive at the end of the album? just wish we could have it to listen to. so excited for ur next work :)
Honestly, you are such a inspiration James. As an artist who is passionate about music myself and especially your music, it’s so refreshing to get see your thought process in writing your music. It’s an emotional video thank you for sharing
Release it and it'll weasel it's way into my heart so fast! Anything made by James is bound to be amazing
In 5 years you should make an album of all the songs you never released! ❤
i love listening to in-depth stories and comments on your music. it’s really interesting to see your emotion and passion in certain areas of specific songs and then hearing it in the song after knowing. i love it
This was genuinely such an enjoyable video to sit down and listen to while i do my uni work. Id love to see you talk amore about songs you didnt release or you making your songs
this is for sure one of the songs i vibe with out of the scrapped songs and ive definitely had a cry with it before but it really shows how you have grown since writing it, would be great if the end bit was released on its own as it is such an amazing piece and its a shame that not everyone is able to listen to it
I absolutely love Are We There Yet? so much and I have been listening to it on repeat. Really hope someday I can attend a concert.
Thank you for existing james, I have watched your content for a while, and you've motivated me to keep living even though difficult times. Keep up with the beautiful music. I'll continue to cry through each song.
I've been listening to so much of your music after finding it yesterday. Wow I love it.
So much guitar, vocal and just music talk is great! I started playing guitar in a big part thanks to you! Great video!!!!!!
Would absolutely LOVE to see a part two of this video, seeing your thoughts behind your music and hearing all of your ideas is so so interesting to me and I could just watch this for hours honestly. Gonna go listen to the album for the millionth time, love you Jimbo 🫶
Really like these in-depth conversations about your music
please make more videos on the concepts behind your songs!! this was SO interesting oh my god!!! also love the raw vocals, as much as you said you don't, they are really beautiful
the process is amazing, big kudos to you for sharing your work and bits of vulnerability with us jimbo x
The ending part legit made me cry. The last few lines of it seriously reminded me of Car Lights... But i just know you will produce stuff as good as this! Keep it up! ♥
I genuinely really like this, with the final polish of a released song this would go so hard. Love these types of videos!
Genuinely this was so interesting, thank you for sharing it even though you don't like it entirely. I really love the ending of the song, it's raw and sounds it (in a good way lol). The whole album is a smash!
I love this video so much, the way you reflect on your music and how you’ve improved is really interesting to watch and I would love more of this content :)
It’s a shame that this song wasn’t published because I LOVE LOVE LOVE the ending!!! The lyrics are just so deep and meaningful i just love it
This is so validating as a person getting into music. Thank you for sharing this process!!
I love the music and lyric breakdown videos so much!! I didnt know afterthought existed dude i would love to hear more about that!!
I love How it goes with my entire heart. There's just something about the song that just speaks to me. I LOVE the chorus + the ending is absolutely PERFECT. Ever since I got the digital download I always absolutely loved this song and I never knew why. It isn't anything specific that I like, it's the whole song: from the lyrics to the guitar to the ending, it's all just really beautiful. This is the thing that I've realised: with a lot of the music that you love, you don't have to fully understand why you love it, you can just listen to it and fall in love, not being able to fully explain why. Super sad, that you didn't release this one, but I get that as a musician you have to make all sorts of sacrifices, that may be sad, but will put you on a higher level as a musician. Really excited for the next album and all the new unreleased songs.
Proud of you, king
I really enjoy this breakdown of the song. It’s so interesting!
This is such a cool video! Thankyou for the insight James
How It Goes sounds like a song that I relate to quite a lot
Sucks that it never got released but I understand why :)
absoulutely loved this! hope you do one on after thought as well :) or any of the other unrealeased songs!
I am only halfway through the video but thank you so much for showing us the song as it was. Ive been getting into music for a while and am really really bad at it. Ive been trying to get into lyrics based music instead of just the pure electronic/classical stuff ive done, but I hate my voice because it never sounds how I hear it in published music. Thank you for the insight to how you work, because now I have a way to improve how I work.
Videos like this are great, just you explaining it all, we love it
Hello James. I rarely comment on your videos but this time i feel like i really want to.
Just wanted to say, that even though I'm not the biggest fan of your music (i listened to your album for about a week, had a lot of fun(?) with it, but it didn't really stick with me for a multitude of reasons that I won't get into right now), but i still love the fact that you do music at all. You sound fantastic on record, and from what I've heard your live performances are very impressive as well. You have a lot of potential that I KNOW you'll realize because the passion that you have for your craft is second to none. And even though your debut LP didn't stick with me, i will be listening to everything you put out in the future, because I know that one day you will release something that my (extremely picky) brain will love to bits. I guess I'm writing all this more so for myself rather than for you, because there have been times where i felt legitimately guilty for not listening to your album, i.e. supporting you in something that means the world to you. But that's a me problem anyways. So yes, i hope that you know that even though your music might not be for everyone, the passion, the love, the care that you put into it doesn't go unnoticed.
P.S. if you ever release something along the lines of "Please Stay", "Thumbs", "Christine" by Lucy Dacus, or "We're In Love" by boygenius, i will despise your very existence (endearingly) as i cry myself to sleep. Just saying.
Yes, please do this again with the other song! LOVED THIS! ❤
Your falsetto never fails to impress!!
I really enjoy how much you’ve grown as a musician and an artist!
god i love hearing your thought process
I would so listen to this! I love the chorus!
Congrats on 200k subscribers
Any and all videos you make talking about music is so welcome please do more what my lyrics mean/ breaking down your songs etc
I love this! You have such a unique voice . ❤
it's a great song and the end is just perfect, such a good sound rolling in our ears
This video was incredibly beautiful, i'm really glad you took the time to share with us. Would of loved to hear it live in leeds tho ❤❤
James you are genuinely so talented istg.
I love love love the outro. If you could somehow turn this into another song or only release that part, I'd listen the shit out of it!!
i think you you should do more of these vids analysing & talking about unreleased music, they are really cool to watch and its nice to have a glance at shit that could have been released
OMG. THE ENDING. THE SOFT VOCALS ARE SO SO GOOD??? THEY HAVE SO MUCH EMOTION ICL 🫶
Man, I wish I could work with you because as you gave your feedback, I could hear every change/addition I would make and hear it and ..ah! I just know how it could sound and I think it would be so much fun eorking with you! If only😩 keep making music!
13:43
Omg I love afterthought
Omg the calm bit at the end of the song is AMAZING❤
That moment is so beautiful. God I felt the emotion behind that.
that’s the thing i feel the way you don’t like it at the start and feel it’s to smooth at the end sort of blends it together to be a perfect combination of not too good or not too bad but idk it’s your decisions :))
dang man, i know you said you dont like the song but man that slaps. i would listen to it on loop
Hey, I love your content a lot and I’ve been obsessed with your music lately, would you be willing to make a video breaking down your guitar tones and maybe some of your songwriting process?
this was a v good video please share more of the thought processes and decisions behind the albums
idk man i think your guitar parts are always great, i think you/matt/jono/whoever the fuck does the bulk of the instrumentation do a great job!! they’re always just busy enough and always super interesting. simply too cool for power chords
I understand why you didn't release it, but that last line ugh cuts deep bro ❤ gonna go listen to the album again
As an artist, i love hearing other people break down exactly why things don't work. Its very hard to be honest. And that last part absolutely hits fucking hard and its unfortunate that it couldn't find a place
Your music means so much to me! (too much according to my family)
It can never be to much❤
this song made me want to go and listen to your songs
also i really dont know why but this song reminds me of summer
never stop that jimbo grind
i have to say the transitions from verses to choruses is UNBELIEVABLY clean
very interesting to see the creative process thank you jim
I don't fucking care if it would be in album or as a singl. NEED IT TO RELEASE!
Happy birthday mate
That last bit of the song was fucking angelic
