I like this perspective! I think there is a certain social beauty to Minecraft that makes it quite unique as a medium in that way. I can't think of many games or spaces that reward the sharing of creative passion as directly as Minecraft.

This type of idea is something that I've been struggling with as well, and its why I personally think that my best builds come out when I'm half asleep, because I stop caring about making everything line up, or be exact with how I want it to be, instead, I'm just building to build. It seems like such a small change to stop caring about perfection, but it makes a great difference in the quality of builds that I put out.

As a person who struggles with perfectionism this helped. I usually try to do something that is ambiguous and timely and try to get myself into every single detail. but as I've found in Minecraft you can't be as detailed to you're own satisfaction all the time, some things will always just look a little off and that's ok.

My gosh, what a refreshing and enjoyable video! Most Minecraft building content nowadays is all time lapses, fast-paced cinematics, and hurried commentary with no time to stop and smell the flowers.
But this video is so chill, well-paced, and genuinely insightful and informative. This is actually one reason why I really love Bdub's videos, because he spends just as much time talking about building as he does actually building. I want the talking, I want the insight, I want to hear about the reasoning behind every decision and every problem that needed to be solved. I want to hear about the techniques and the style that's being used.
Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of incredible builders in this game, but it feels like finding people who slow down to explain their process is so rare. Thank you for being one of those people!

I'm someone who's been trying to get back into minecraft over the past couple of years and finally making something I've wanted to for a while, that being a timelapse, but I usually get hit with a mental block over getting too caught up in trying to make it the most perfect thing.. So I think I'll take your words to heart and consider them while trying to finally hit this goal of mine.

That means that if something looks off or weird, I leave it like that. "Imperfection is the key to perfection" -- The Illusion
I try to tell myself this quote as much as possible, despite it being a little silly. I've been trying to work on building in Minecraft without demanding perfection or demanding that I build something unique. Just trying to build what I think would be cool, even if I'm copying a design. As long as I'm building something and having fun doing it, it's worth it. It's a great way to get back into Minecraft after falling out of love with it.

  • @snarebear614
    @snarebear614 2 месяца назад +2

Minecraft for me is definitely an art form and your video demonstrates this clearly! Imperfection is one of hardest, if not the hardest barrier to overcome, when working on becoming an artist. To me at least, and I personally use minecraft to work on learning to use my creative energy and momentum. I still struggle with building things that satisfy me, it's most often a perfect idea, that's unfinished and starts to become dull really quick. And so what I'm really trying to say is, the way you approached and commented on your building process really is a fantastic teaching of dealing with the urge to create something perfect and how important it is to really just let imperfection unfold itself, so that true beauty (as we know it in humans too) can emerge.
I hope this made sense 😅thank you for sharing this video!!

As much as I am amazed by how much minecraft creative building has advanced in the last couple years especially with all the commands and debug stick work that's being popularized, i think there is something so refreshing about building a cozy, little build that doesnt clutter itself with all that. Theres somethint inherently minecraft to me that restricts itself to only what can be done in survival that I really like. perhaps its because it reminds me of how i used to play minecraft, im not sure. What I do know is that I have personally been wanting to make minecraft build videos like this for a while, but have been discouraged by all the "better" builders out there cranking out extremely massive builds that i could never build anything close to, but this video made me realize that that shouldnt be a deterrent.

This video just showed up on my recommended, as I've been going through my subscriptions and mass unsubscribing from a lot of channels that I didn't feel aligned with the type of content I remember youtube being so warm and genuine for back in the day, as well as me scrolling through my homefeed and doing mass "not interested" clicks to try and change my recommendations towards that old feel I havent been getting from this platform, and I've gotta say this is EXACTLY the type of content im looking for. A personal, calm, small creator just doing his own thing. You got a subscription from me, keep up the good work!

    • @SuperSideKian

Minecraft is about a lot of things that I don't understand. I don't think anyone can encapsulate the full experience by themselves.
I mentioned in another comment here that I think Minecraft has a unique social beauty in the sphere of modern video games -- our experiences with it are paralleled by a second-hand perspective through our interactions with the communities that surround it. In doing so, Minecraft's core identity changes over time with these crowds. And a community as large and rapidly-evolving as Minecraft's seems pretty impossible to truly understand.
I dunno, maybe I'm just talking out of my ass hahaha. I'm no philosopher
      Thank you for the comment!

I wanna say this: I think the build looks very aesthetically pleasing. Even the inside or rather especially the inside. Cause it has a very dream like quality to it. I can very much imagine seeing such a structure during a dream scenario. It is a house that makes just sense to be the way it is without it actually being illogical (cause Dreams usually wanna do what they wanna do and sometimes the door to the bathroom just leads out to the trainstation lol)
But I think I need to mention also something else. Something that I noticed in a lot of creative building is that while the builds often times can have a huge amount of detail in them, it always feels disconnected from someone having to experience the build if it were a real build to play around with.
I think the best way that I can compare it to is designers making houses. They look good. They have all thats neccesary to be in them. But are they actually enjoyable to live in? Or are they actually something that someone would actually want to live in? In this case I feel the house has this very issue as well. Like I said, it looks VERY aesthetically pleasing. I fricking love it in and outside, that has not changed. But the survival flair of the build for me feels very gone. Its more so Art than a real build. Which on its own is great too.
Now when it comes to the second floor, I absolutely ADORE the room you come into from the first set of stairs. That thin set of stairs going up? OH yea I can see it. Thats honest to god a really good and pleasing visual. The only thing that I would argue feels out of place is the corridor to the right. You have basically sacrificed space that you could have used for the Diningarea to give it more flair for a small visually pleasing corridor. As for the Master Bedroom? It does look nice, but there is that "pesky" word. Designed. xD It looks good. But it feels very designed too look good. But yea the Diningarea personally could have used some more space as I said, maybe some additional shelves or possibly a drawer or something else. Right now it feels very very small despite the balcony. Which I also must admit feels a little out of place. But thats personally speaking.
Not much to say about the rest of the house. Do I think the locations fit? To a point. I think the view on the tree is lovely, have one outside my window and yea it feels very nice and I hope you get to experience that kinda view one day.
But all in all? Despite what I said about the house in the critique/my opinion: I think you did a wonderful job bringing this house to life as an artpiece. I would certainly be curious how such a house would look if you took into consideration livability tho. Would it fall out bigger? Smaller? More complex, less complex? *Cough*I wantasecondvideodangitImsubbing*Cough* But jokes aside, your content is very enjoyable to watch, Ill def stick around.

Thanks for the feedback! You're absolutely right about my design philosophy with this build. I 100% sacrificed my ability to have chairs in the dining room for that hallway shot LOL. It's impractical in the same way as the balconies, the tree, the lighthouse, the location... the whole build! Like you mention, I built this to be visually pleasing first -- pleasing for myself, moreover. Practical logic took a backseat. It's a trade-off I frequently make, often without even realizing.
I am not a super well-practiced interior designer, as you are certainly aware, so it's always great to receive such thorough criticism. I definitely find myself locked in a bubble of sorts when I build alone, which can have a variety of consequences. Often good ones, like I discussed in the video. But sometimes I miss the obvious hahaha
I do have another, slightly more practical house partially designed that might make it into a video when I can find the time. Although that probably won't be for a while, unfortunately.
