I melt the eyes of all plushies/amigurumis regardless of size as I am a paranoid mom of a toddler and pet owner, but I never thought of the felt square as added protection. Thank you so much for the tip!
I do them with a hair iron and a piece of bee wax paper (the one you put when you cook and do cakes) and that just works perfect for me (im afraid of fire and the eyes melting)
Oooo, smart idea! I'm a beginner as well and I never even thought of embroidery. Possibly will try seeing as I struggle with not accidentally pulling the fur off of chenille yarn lol
this came at the best time, im in process of knitting stuffed animals as christmas presents- and wasnt sure how to make the eyes extra secure and thought maybe a piece of material inbetween but felts a perfect idea!! as well as the melting part- never would have thought of that!
You should never ever burn them. That weakens the plastic. Those backs are not the appropriate backs for that size eye either. The backs should be the same circumference as the eye part, and as long as you are using the correct size eyes with your yarn, they should not come out. You can use glue for extra security but melting them defeats the purpose.
Also i don't know what these eyes are made of, but plastic that is not meant to be melted could release harmful fumes into the air when melted like that which could cause serious harm long term
This is such great advice for the chunky and jumbo yarns! I put mine in with a little bit of hot glue as I usually work with medium/worsted, so that I know they're in the best place after making the item
That is brilliant! I’ve been putting these little eyes in and using hot glue or a nail file to get rid of the sharp pokey edge. I will be doing your method from now on! Thank you.
Omg, I always put the back piece upside down. I just realized I did it wrong🤣 But, I don't feel it's wrong 🤔 because the eyes are firmly attached even without glue.
Thats so smart im probably not going to do it as an 8 year old crocheter but if i crochet more in the future i will definitely use this thanks for the tip❤❤
If it falls out, just glue it You can use a felt that can help but you shouldn't burn plastic either way, melting weakens the plastic and fire is obviously a serious hazard
Those are the smallest backs I've ever seen for 24mm safety eyes. The backs that come with the ones I buy are nearly the same width as the eyes themselves. But, with something that huge, I use larger eyes, like 40 to 60mm safety eyes. I also do the lighter "trick" and melt and flatten the safety eye stem. I also use a safety eye tool to really press that back on, it never goes on as strongly as it can when you just do it with your hands. If it goes on easy with bare hands, it's not a true "safety eye".
If they aren't secure enough on their own just glue them, you don't want to inhale burning plastic fumes and it's safer than any tools hot enough to melt the plastic. And if you really want to melt plastic that isn't supposed to be melted do it in a well ventilated area like outside, and you should probably wear a mask. And of course be careful with hot objects.
Stop. Omg. Take my money and give me your patterns! But. I am NEVER going to take a lighter to my projects 😂😂😂😂😂 I would end up burning the entire project, my house and the state of Kansas, Missouri and possibly Colorado down. 😂😂😂
I purchase sheets of felt that are about the size of a sheet of paper at my local craft store for about 50 cents a sheet! Then, my mom usually helps me cut out the squares! ❤️
I feel like you and the author of the article never watched superNanny. I watched probably every episode and the spinoffs. Jo always tells the parents their child is acting up because they (the parent) aren't doing what they should be. (Unless there is some other issue then medications and special techniques are to both be used). This includes discipline rules boundries. Or attention affection. Independance trust responsibilities. And fun and quality time with emphasis on learning and exploring. It being filmed is a burden and several older children have said they dont like being filmed AND they think its all for show. But Jo is very realistic and just tells them (paparphrasing) theres no such thing as a free lunch for the family to receive her help the process willl be filmed. Tbh there is a lot cut out especially on the newest episodes. And by the end of the show the children seem to like Jo. Who knows if the parents can stay on the wagon, can adapt to their child's ever changing needs. But the show isnt for that. They are given some techniques and some guidance over a few days and then a follow up visit. 🤷♀️ And anyone whos interacted with a toddler knows they dont feel that much shame. They kick off in public all the time they dont care about that camera man. the older kids will but they are old enough to be spoken to and have the situation explained to them. And the explanation basically boils down to "Mom and dad need help this is how they are going about it if you dont like it to bad the decision has been made and yes you are expected to participate. Thats life. And why do parents get to make that decision? Because the expectation is they ( the parent) have the best intrest of the child in mind they know what the child needs and they are to fulfill the needs and some wants of the child. And before you start crying even as adults we have people with power over us and responsibilities to us. Just like a parent has power over and responsibilities to their child BY LAW. Thats just life get over it. The purpose of the show isnt to humiliate the children but get so fucking forreal. There are many times in life where we face humiliation and embarrassment Even in the public eye. That in itself isnt abusive being uncomfortable isnt abuse.

Of course!!!❤️❤️glad you enjoyed!
Melting the plastic can make it more brittle and snap easier :(
@ I don’t know why I never thought of that. Thank you. Definitely using the felt from now on.
Good tips! A hot iron can be used instead of a lighter. For anyone (me) who don't trust themselves with an open flame 😂
I love this tip! Thank you for sharing!!!🥰🥰🥰
I've used a soldering iron to melt the post down.
I do them with a hair iron and a piece of bee wax paper (the one you put when you cook and do cakes) and that just works perfect for me (im afraid of fire and the eyes melting)
I do the same thing with the felt! I never thought of melting the post of the eye though. Awesome tip!
🌃🕋❤🌜⭐️🍭🍨🍩🍟🍔🍕🥤
Beautiful! I’m helping my little cousin to finish a big Dino plushie and I’m glad now I know what to do with the eyes. Thanks for the tips merry 🤗
Glad I could help!❤️❤️❤️
Meanwhile me with my tiny amigurumi projects as a beginner: embroidery timeeeee!✨
Same
Embroidery is better for amigurumi that's designed for babies anyway, since safety eyes aren't truly safe for babies
It can also work with larger needles and normal size yarn for jumbo projects, thread for normal size! :D
Oooo, smart idea! I'm a beginner as well and I never even thought of embroidery. Possibly will try seeing as I struggle with not accidentally pulling the fur off of chenille yarn lol

Meanwhile the felt goes up in flames accidentally
Also i don't know what these eyes are made of, but plastic that is not meant to be melted could release harmful fumes into the air when melted like that which could cause serious harm long term

Thanks to both of you!
❤️❤️❤️
That dino is so cute!
Omg, I always put the back piece upside down. I just realized I did it wrong🤣

Same
same! works so much better
Thats so smart im probably not going to do it as an 8 year old crocheter but if i crochet more in the future i will definitely use this thanks for the tip❤❤
this is game changing!! thank you so much
Very clever idea thank you for sharing.❤
Excellent tip! Thanks! 😊
Instead of felt squares I use thin foam squares, I find it to be more sturdy and secure that way.
Never thought to burn the end. Thanks
Just saw this video in my timeline. Thanks for sharing! I have a felt cloth that's only stored since idk when 🙈
Burning the plastic like that just makes it brittle and more likely to break in the long run. Just use superglue.
Great hack, thx. I like the idea of the felt.❤
Simply glue them.. melting plastic is not safe..
Thank you!!
bro was bascally touching that flame 😭😭😭
Brilliant!!
TYSM❤
Omg thank you so much this has helped me alot ❤ keep up the good work XD (Love the dinosaur btw❤)
Never melt the plastic! Makes it weaker
Thank you!
Instructions unclear, house currently burned down 🤣
Does the felt technique work with smaller plushies too? My safety eyes always fall out of my piece.
It should! I also struggle with my tiny eyes slipping out so I will def be using this hack!
Meanwhile me: hey now my embroidery class that one volunteering summer has a purpose! :3
Does the plastic turn brittle from being heated?
Yes, this is why I a lot of people really don’t recommend this burning technique
"Oops wrong spot" 💀
Bro just felt a whole hat
😮🎉🎉❤😊
I wish I saw this before I decided to Frog the head that I had to work on because I thought they somehow had to be crocheted into the work. 😅
How are your stitches so neat?
Hello. Thank you for the information
I love it is dino amigurumi❤
I HAVE THAT DINO IN THAT SAME EXACT COLOR BUT WAY SMALLER
Can you use tin foil if you don’t have felt fabric ? I’d imagine that would work too but I’d rather be safe than sorry haha x
A lighter to…”my brain “ to burn it😂😂
Do you need to use the lighter and felt squares for a smaller project?
If it falls out, just glue it
You can use a felt that can help but you shouldn't burn plastic either way, melting weakens the plastic and fire is obviously a serious hazard

Do you have a good brand of eyes to use?
Genius
I should have seen your video a couple of tears ago 🫠🫠 tysm!!!!!

I WANT that pink dinosaur! Gimme! I'm just kidding, but in all seriousness, can I buy one somewhere?
I've been doing the same thing for years
Can you please do step by step videos on how to make some of your stuff please
Waw
Do you sell them I really want one
Where do you get the back piece of the eyes?
I want the recipe to make it
WOW
My friend loves dinosaurs I need one but if I did it will be money
But what if you want to take it off??
Instructing unclear, I burnt down my whole house 😂
Why do you put the felt
You inserted the backings wrong
el dia que descubri lo de derretir los ojitos todo fue mas fácil
Stop. Omg. Take my money and give me your patterns! But. I am NEVER going to take a lighter to my projects 😂😂😂😂😂 I would end up burning the entire project, my house and the state of Kansas, Missouri and possibly Colorado down. 😂😂😂
😂
Someone suggested using an iron instead.
😂😅😂❤
Superglue is actually safest! XD Also, the backs might be too small if they pop off like that.
And then you realize u put one one row behind where its supposed to be so its eyes are wonky…
Can we buy velt squares some where ?
I purchase sheets of felt that are about the size of a sheet of paper at my local craft store for about 50 cents a sheet! Then, my mom usually helps me cut out the squares! ❤️
what size eyes r those?!?
Imagine putting that in the wrong stitch
I use glue i don't have much money to afford it
You should never trust me with a lighter-

instructions unclear, I burned my plushie

😍🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
❤️❤️❤️
Haha
Oh ya thats not coming off for anything
okay that’s just boringggg🤬🤦♀️
even if they do come off, which is pretty unlikley, you can always hot glue them. Or use E600 which is what i perfer, to put them back in place. 🧶🦕
Same I hot glue my
There's something even safer: superglue and fabric glue! (I use that so my parents don't kill me. XD)
