It's funny how even today people don't understand the amount of value in animation when one of the largest and most successful companies in the world were built upon it.
Animation is the foundation of live-action. It's just more recognizable with its remnants in VFX. However, it is overshadowed by motion and performance capture.
Now that I know a bit more about the origins of Disney it makes a lot more sense why Disney are incredibly litigious and protective of their IP. Of course anyone would be, but the old saying goes copy right law is defined as the life of the author plus however many years it's been since Walt Disney died. Also, story time: When I was a child I owned a Disney Anniversary Edition of Snow White. After the film it had a mini documentary with Walt Disney and Shirley Temple talking about the development of the film and its successes and challenges. As an 8 year old I didn't really appreciate the gravity of what Walt Disney had achieved, but I would go on to understand it more and more. I think that post credits doco was instrumental in growing my love and appreciation of film as art and the creative process of film and documentary. How one makes a talkie.
The copyright on Mickey Mouse was supposed to expire in 2003 but a Republican Congress extended it by 20 years because back then Disney was family-friendly. It won't be extended again, and Mickey will enter the public domain next year.
Learning this history makes me think what would he think of the current Iger Disney path, he would probably be angry to see that his huge empire is following the same failure path he struggled so much in his life.
Me too! But the Walt Disney Company is a different company than it was a 100 years ago. Its a company that buys out other companies... Its not as innovative any more.😢 The parks aren't doing so well either. 🥺
In an alternate timeline, Walt Disney could've easily given up on his dreams and live a regular life. But through luck, and sheer determination, he broke through, and changed the world.
Walt Disney, with hard work and dedication brought cartoons to the big screen as full fledged movies. The last 2d animated movie the Disney corporation made was in 2009....... Now it's just 3d animation and bad live action reboots, sad.
This is a fantastic channel. The quality isn't sacrificed like multiple second channels, and I'm genuinely looking forward to what this has to offer and where it's going:)
This video is getting us closer to the cross over of how money history works 🤣. How long until you do a video on the history of money, modern company structures or stock markets? Hint: I'd love to see this
@@danielhale1 no, I'm replying to the person who said "he just followed their example instead" like he was some awful person. Whoever that is knows nothing about the guy whatsoever.
Something is wrong woth the visuals. There are blue-red outlines, like the colors are misplaced or some chromatic abberration, or it would be for red-blue 3d glasses or something. :/
That Segway at the end really detracted from the end of the video. It felt like you were delivering a short and had to rush to get in your plug before you ran out of time, rather than letting the end of the video breathe
It's a good Walt short, and I would love to watch something with more detail about the same topic. What about a video about Tom & Jerry? Or Cartoon Network?
Hello. Voz do Gibi here. the thumbnail is logically a clickbait. in Walt Disney I don't see a failure, but a man who knew how to persevere despite misfortunes.
Disney was NOT a perpetual failure...he was a typical entrepreneur. Good on you, Walt. And, yeah, I see why Disney is well-known for IP protection...they learned from getting ripped off. So, sorry, your title is CLICKBAIT.
So they went from being ripped off to becoming the ultimate form evil entity in ripping other people off? Which makes ripping off others ok because it happened to them?
@@milkcookiesandme That's what always happens. Google started with the motto 'Do No Evil' and once they became massive, and worth billions, they started to be evil.
Interesting take on Walt Disney. Learned a few things. Thanks for the video. I am curious why the use of chromatic aberration so much? So distracting in a way that did not add to the video. Made me go look to see if that was your thing in other videos and am glad it is not.
I never blame Walt for what Disney has become today because I know he had been screwed over by these same backstabbing practices. It's good to know Hollywood big wigs were always a mistake.
He was a closet pagan or wiccan. Or warlock. He has a fascination with the occult and also was a member of the secret societies in the United States. He also heavily invested in the up and coming porn industry in California... nothing he did to keep afloat was an accident. He did it with intent for he actually communicated with higher forces. He did talk about some of these things in a self autobiography etc that he made on his life.
@@cealdi1516 He funded early works of Hollywood. He did make an autobiography. You are clueless, ignorant and dumb. Some of his not so subtle artwork is in his films called fantasia fantasia. Look at the pictures of ladies dancing in the flames. You lose any credibility whatsoever to deny that this company has destroyed society.
Why not leave out all the very modern footage? What is Will Smith doing in a story about something that happened a century ago? Why is there a clip from The Godfather? Why would you show flatscreens? It's OK to stall on one pic instead of creating a strobe light effect. The western world wasn't filled with African doctors and CEOs, by the way (and still isn't), as much as you seem to want this. Maybe call the channel How I Want History to Work.

I wonder if you will mention the influence Walt Disney cartoons had on Japanese animation
I'm glad Walt Listened to his wife's suggestion on the Name change. Mortimor? Geez!
Great video, man!
I wonder if he ever got back at all the people who betrayed him
No, he just followed their example, instead.
No he didn't, another comment from some worthless nobody who can't stand that somebody else was successful.

He is still the head of Disney 😍
Image quality is a bit low on this film
Loving the background music.
"Enjoyed a Disney" movie is past tense for a reason.
What's the odd effect on the video? Looks like some faux 3D glasses thing going on.
The only thing I got from this video is that people had weird names back then.

exactly...it's clickbait.
To be fair before Mickey Walt did fail at nearly anything he tried especially in animation. Either through bankruptcy or losing rights to characters.
Now, Disney has become the very thing that nearly ended his life and career. Oh, what irony!
