He's such a deeply misunderstood character that gets the most undeserved hate, and that makes me love him even more.
But it must suck for the actor. Always receiving negative hate from reactors and comments like that. Because God knows he doesn't deserve it. By far the most intriguing and powerful person in Westeros. Legendary and badass character. He's awesome. I feel like people always try to glorify Daemon even when he's doing plain wrong and unethical things. Being intimidating and a skilled swordsman only gets you so far.
I didn’t realize he caught hate for this role. He seems like the most pragmatic character so far.
Otto has the patience of a saint. Daemon Targaryen kept poking him and annoying him. Injuring his son, macking on his daughter, mocking his dead wife, most guys who'd have that as their co-worker would snap in a week.
I don't think I've ever seen a character so devoted to play the game like Otto does. He does it to pure perfection as well. I love his persona. Can't wait for season 2. As someone mentioned below me very charismatic and a good man, father and a hand. Rhys Ifans is probably the best actor in the show overall he's got so much incredible experience and wise counsel as Otto Hightower. Nothing but respect and honor for this man.
Also Otto is the definition of the word loyalty and integrity. This is a guy who you want on your side in all matters whether small or big he's that powerful and strong as a person. Total badass. He's the best. I don't think I've ever as intrigued by a person in a show as him.

Very true. If argue he could've been a better father with Alicent in some areas, but at the same time, for a high lord such as himself, he did very well for ensuring she was safely married to the King of all people, a king who didn't ever raise a hand to his first wife whom he respected.
Viserys didn't turn out to be a very good father to her kids, nor the best husband but, Otto likely wouldn't have been planning for all of that
People don't seem to know that Otto has been Hand of the King and did very well as Protector of the Realm for not one but TWO King's.
Now of course, I'm not gonna take anything away from the old King Jaehaerys, he was an absolute Chad of a Monarch. But, as with anyone, he eventually did get a bit old (quite old, for that time period) and he eventually wasn't able to actively rule. However, that led to Otto being the one to lead the proceedings as Hand. Then he does it again for Viserys. Very capable politician.
The brother Viserys always wanted. The problem with Daemon is that he sees ruling as his birthright while Otto sees ruling as his duty. He is a second son who did not stay in his brother's shadow but ascended to a position much higher than Lord Hobert Hightower of Old Town: The Hand of the King. Jahaerys I Targaryen liking and hiring Otto shows how skilled he is as a politician and an advisor. Daemon learned the truth too late and he only gave up his birthright when he ran away with Nettles in the end.

he's the combination of Petyr Baelish and Tywin Lannister
I don't think Otto is anything like Littlefinger and Tywin no offense. He's not driven by greed, lust, brainwashing, deception and cunning like they are. Much better at playing the game as well. If anything he's like if Stannis was actually likable and had charisma and wasn't an ignorant dictatorial narcissistic egotistical total fool who betrayed (and killed) his family and bannermans. Tywin was like a egomaniacal self-loving selfish loathing hypocritical tyrant and Littlefinger was a lying deceitful snake.

Tem Greem . Otto prevented the Targaryen from extinction. He saved Westeros from madness and saved Westeros from the tyranny of the dragon lords
It's only a shame that Viserys was such a poor King tbh. The Dance doesn't end well for 90% of the characters we've seen so far, unfortunately.
