I don't agree that BE dev need to understand javascript. It's advatange if one understand but it's not required. On the other side if you want to be a full stack dev javascript is unnecessary
Javascript in the server, for example Node.js with Express. I currently learning it coming from Laravel and i find building APIs with Node are actually with less overhead and less code than it would take with Laravel , also pretty good since most companies specially the big ones are using Node more than any other backend language
